Release by Robert Martyn, white tawyer, citizen of London, and Matilda his wife, to the abbot and convent of St. Mary de Graciis by the Tower of London, of the above tenement with two shops, &c., in the parish of St. Botulph without Algate [see A. 1597], which they formerly acquired of Nicholas Longe and Alice his wife. 6 May, 41 Edward III. Grant by Simon de Plaghe, leech and citizen of London, and Joan his wife, to William le Fourner, citizen and butcher, of the brewhouse with two shops, &c., situate as described in the parish of St. Botulph without Algate, which they had by grant of John Chaucer, vintner, and Agnes his wife. Grant by John Chaucer, citizen and vintner of London, and Agnes his wife, to Simon de Plaghe, and Joan his wife, of the above tenement with two shops, &c., in Algatestrete, London, St. Botolph's parish, which formerly belonged to Hamo de Copton, uncle of the said Agnes, to whom it descended on Hamo's death. Legacies to the prior of Holy Trinity, London, of the tenement with quay and vacant ground in the parish of St. Mary atte Hulle, &c.; and of money to all the orders of friars in London, and to his executors. Grant by John, the prior, and the convent of Holy Trinity, London, to William Vyel, citizen of London, of a yearly rent of 7s. issuing from a tenement in the parish of St. Augustine, by St. Paul's churchyard, in exchange for the grant to them by Vyel of a yearly rent of 5s. issuing from two shops in St. Mildred's parish in Bredstrate. If they cannot obtain this latter rent they may distrain on the tenement in St. Augustine's parish for the amount. Release by William de Arderne, citizen of London, to Edmund de Hemenhale, citizen and mercer of London, of the two parts of a messuage, situate as described, in the parish of St. Margaret the Virgin at Lothbury, with which John his son lately enfeoffed the said Edmund, and also of a marc of annual rent issuing from another tenement as specified herein. Confirmation by Geoffrey, son of Geoffrey Alderman, of the grant made by Reginald, son of William de Hauvile, his grandson, to Salomon de Basing', of a rent of 8s. in the parish of St. Mary of Abechurch, issuing from land which was Hugh de Toting's; and of two shops in the parish of St. Mary of Arches, situate as described; which premises he warrants to Salomon, and "in contraplegium" thereof has alloted him his house in Colemannecherche parish, towards Alegate, and two houses in the parish of Wlnodmariecherch, situate as described; which three houses, in case of failure of such warranty, Salomon shall hold till Geoffrey or his heirs have secured to him 14s. 6d. quitrent. Grant by John Bonaventur, goldsmith, son of William Bonaventur, to Amfrey de Beckenham, rector of the church of Hodleg', for four marcs, of the land in St. Michael's parish, Cornhull, which he had by grant of Andrew his brother—which descended to his father through Emma Bonaventur, his grandmother—of the fee of Holy Trinity, Loadon, and of the extent and situation specified; paying yearly to himself a rose, and to the chief lords of the fee 3s. Grant by Robert Saddler (Sellarius) to the prior and canons of Holy Trinity, London, of a rent of 7s. out of the land that Henry Tanner held of him in the parish of St. Botulph without Bissopesgate, of the fee of Henry de Cornhull, and which, as well as his chief dwellinghouse, he holds of Benedict Wandegos, paying therefor 3s. yearly. In case of failing to receive the rent of 7s., the prior may distrain on the said dwelling house. For this grant they have paid Robert and Cecilia his wife 35s. 8d. Grant by Roger Sibbyllyng, son and heir of Thomas Sybbylling, citizen of London, to John de Bocton, citizen and cofferer of London, for 100l., of land with the buildings thereon in the parish of St. Bartholomew the Less, London; paying yearly to himself and his heirs 6d., to London Bridge 5s., to the canons of Holy Trinity 4s., to the brethren of the Hospital of St. Giles without London 3s. 6d., to the heirs of Peter Danyel 1d., and to Henry de Sancto Albano half a pound of cummin. Grant by William le Lutre that whereas he owes the prior and canons of Holy Trinity, London, 18d. yearly for land with a stone house which was Godeson le Megucyer's, in the parish of St. Olave by the Tower, if such rent be not paid and the land he holds of them be so occupied (hospitata) that it cannot be sufficiently distrained, he will allow them to distrain on all his rents in Chikenelane, in the parish of Berkinge cherche, till their rent is paid in full. [Middx.] A. 1643. Grant by Alice, late wife of Master Roger the Leech (Medici), to Holy Trinity, London, of 10s. yearly quitrent that Robert Long is wont to pay for lands he holds of her in the parish of St. Benedict of Garschech. The said Robert shall pay her or her assign in addition 4s. yearly, to be paid the monks of Reading. [Middx.] A. 1644. Acquittance by brother Geoffrey, collector of rents (rentarius) of the prior and convent of Holy Trinity, London, for 6l. 'common money' received from Nicholas de Farendon, executor of the will of Stephen Asshewy, formerly citizen of London, Isabel Asshewy, and Reginald de Frowyk, associated with Nicholas to execute the will by the office of the bishop of London, part of the arrears of 9l. 15s. 10d., in which the said Stephen was bound to the convent for tenements he held of them in the parishes of St. Mary of Arches, St. Mary of Aldremannebery, and St. James of Garlekheth; they having remitted the remaining 75s. 10d. London, Sunday after the Purification, 27 Edward I.

Agreement made before Humphrey, called prior of St. Mary's of Southwark, to settle the dispute between Master Alexander, rector of St. Swithin's of Kandelwricchestrate, and Stephen de Codre, chaplain, as to 60s. yearly rent bequeathed by William Wite by will to St. Swithin's aforesaid, for a chaplain to celebrate divine service there for ever. Stephen shall receive 30s. for performing the service half the year, and Alexander 30s. for the other half year. If Alexander die, put on the religious habit, or be transferred to another church, Stephen may receive the whole 60s. Stephen will assist Alexander in distraining from the fee from which the money ought to be received, if necessary. They submit to the prior's jurisdiction to compel observance of this agreement. Grant by William de Reimes to Waleram son of Meill', of land beginning from the great way from London and Edgware, by the land of Adam son of Randulf to that of Robert de Stanmere, thence to the aqueduct, and by that to the land that belonged to Nigel, and ascending thence to the aforesaid way, and one hide towards the wood between the St. Albans and Watford Roads; to be held by the service of the fifth part of a knight's fee, to be performed "per denarios" in the vill of Edgware, so that the grantor and his heirs cannot carry Waleram or his heirs into the army or otherwise vex them for the said service. For this grant Waleram gives him 5 ells "de viridi," his wife Sara a cloak worth 16s., and a tunic of say worth 4s.
