[Heref.] C. 4001. Grant by John Balle to Richard his son of land in the parish of Bodenham which he bought of Richard Ilger, and of 1a. in Dunfeld which he bought of the said Richard, John son of John Heyward of Bodenham, and Thomas Olyfer. Le More, Sunday after St. Denis, 35 Henry VI.
[Bedford.] C. 4002. Grant by Gilbert Dru, of Bestone, to Richard de Buddenho and Nicholaa his wife of land in Buddenho Croft with the whole lane between the said croft and the lower end (fundamentum) of the ditch of his wood; and quitclaim of 11a. 3r. arable in the field of Bestone, viz. 5a. in 'le Stockinge' between Beston pasture and the said Richard's wood, 5a. under his wood with the road and boundary from the lower end (fundo) of the same to 'le Dene,' 1a. in 'le Wryttecroft,' and 1a. 1r. on 'le Dellefurlong'; for this Richard gave him in exchange land in Feluhole, of the dower of Maud Morel, and all his right in the mill of Beston. [Chester.] C. 4003. Agreement between Ralph, lord of Hasilwall, and Henry de Blakerode, citizen of Chester, that whereas Ralph had enfeoffed Henry of a messuage and two bovates in Hasilwall, Henry shall hold them for 20 years from date, and at the end of that term he, or his heirs, shall enfeoff Ralph, or his heirs, thereof, or otherwise shall pay 6l. a year therefore, for which rent Ralph and his heirs may distrain. Sunday, the greater feast of St. Michael, 1325.
[Kent.] C. 4004. Demise by John Gylot to Richard Skippar of a messuage with a house (dom' mur') in the town of Monketone at Goristrete. Goristrete, 5 August, 1 Henry IV.
[Staff.] C. 4005. Grant by Richard de Marnham, lord of Bromwich, with the assent of Margery his wife, to Robert de Grete, for his homage and service and for five marks beforehand, of his part of a hey in Bromwich late of William de Wavere, between the part of that hey of Walter de Evereus, &c., adjoining the highway from Bromwich church to Grete mill, at a yearly rent of 4s., saving foreign service and two suits of his court, at the courts next after Michaelmas and 'le Hokeday.' Demise by Alexander de la Rose to Maud Paulin, for her life of a messuage and croft which Hywain formerly held of him in Tuthrope, at a yearly rent of 20d., saving suit of his court and the king's service. Grant by Roger son of Stephen de Rudinges to Robert le Vavasur, for his homage and service, of 24a. land in Watenhoue, viz. 12a. of his demesne, within the old hedges of the arable field, measured by the perch of 18 feet, in these places; 3½a. in Rouwefeld, viz. in the tillage under Howe, 1a. in the tillage of Limput, 1a. to the south and 1½a. next the toft of Hugh de Temes to the west, to make a toft of; in Howefeld, Northwellefeld and Cliffeld, 8½a. in the tillage 'del Clif,' &c.; and 12a. outside the old hedges to assart with everything growing thereon, measured by the perch of 20 feet; at a yearly rent of gilt spurs or 6d., saving such foreign service as belongs to a half bovate in Watenhoue. Quitclaim by William son of William de Wilgeby to Sir William de Heyling. knight, and his heirs, of a yearly rent of ½lb. cummin in Wyvelingham with wards, reliefs, &c., incident thereto, due at the feast of St. Botolph by Walter de Wer, Amabel his wife, and her heirs or from whoever may hold the lands late of Walter de Killingholm, and Frethesant his wife, of the inheritance of the said Frethesant. Grant by Margaret daughter of Thomas called 'Yerl' of Wyvelingham, widow, to Thomas son of Robert Ad Ripam of Wyflingham of 12d. rent from her toft and a house built thereon in Wyvelingham, with right of distraint; covenant not to sell to any unless she can get as much from them as another, under penalty of 20s. to be paid to the lords of the fee for the time being. [Leic.] C. 4017. Demise by John son of Hugh son of Adam of Herdeby to William le Clerk of Howys for twelve years from Easter of land on 'le Redland' and by 'le Shyremer,' in Howys. Herdeby, Wednesday after St. Ambrose, 1340.
[Leic] C. 4018. Grant by Henry de Templo to Richard de Templo his eldest son begotten of his true spouse, of all his land held of the Templars in the town of Temple (Templum) by Welcboure, both land in bondage and land in demesne, with the homage and service of William de Templo; also of 15a. on the long tillage (custuram) stretching from the water of Schepeya to Derbiweye, doing homage and service therefore to Sir Peter le Poter; for this Richard gave him 20 marks beforehand. Grant by Richard son of Simon Cotin of Maddeleg' to William Cotin of a moiety of the land which he had by descent, of Simon his father except the capital messuage, for which the said William is to have la. land (unam acram terre regal') beyond his portion; at a yearly rent of 22d.; for this William gave him 5 marks beforehand.

Grant by Sir John de Sutton, lord of Malpas, to Uryen de Egerton for life of the keepership (garde) of the serjeanty of the barony of Malpas, which David del Malpas had before, at a yearly rent of 6li.; the said Uryen has found eight sureties (named), &c. Soghlache, Sunday before the Purification, 17 Edward II. French.
Oxford. C. 4022. Demise by John White of Hamelden, co. Bucks, hus- bandman, and Alice Hamelden of Syddenham, co. Oxford, widow, to Thomas Sparow of Emyngton, co. Oxford, and Nicholas Bowlake of Towresay, co. Bucks, husbandman, of their farm in Syddenham, with barns, lands, &c., late of Nicholas Hamelee, deceased, from Michaelmas next for nine years at a yearly rent of 4 marks; the said farmers to keep up all thatched houses, walls of 'splynt,' hedges, and ditches, and the said John and Alice to support all other charges. 10 March, 4 Henry VII. Grant and release by Thomas de Stanihurste to Sir Ralph de Mitton of the warranty which belongs to the land which was of Richard son of Thomas de Acton, for the homage which the said Thomas did to him therefore; so that the said Thomas shall not sell or give the land to any without Ralph's consent. [Bedford.] C. 4025. Grant by Robert son of Henry de Thornecot to Robert Ivel of the same of a selion in Beston abutting on Clayhuldyhc and the churchway, with remainder to Cecily sister of the said Robert Ivel if the said Robert die without heirs or assigns. Sunday after St. Katharine, 1 Edward II.

Declaration by Thomas Boterye, John Nowerne, William Tymkockes, and 17 others (named) 'to alle cristen men and princi- pallye to my lorde of Warrewik and to my lady his wieff and to all her wise and discrete counseill,' that no man hath a rightful title to a 'meese place' in Berkeswell called 'Hukyns' alias 'Barrels Place,' but only William Hore, esquire, Joan his wife, and her heirs. Demise by John Nowers, knight, to William de Ahston of the manor of Chester on the Water (Cestre sourleyewe) for life, and to his executors and assigns for a year after his death, at a yearly rent of 20li.; William shall do the services due to the chief lord of the fee and pay 2s. to the duke of Lancastre, and 2s. 4d. to the abbot of Borow Seynt Per', and if more than 4s. 4d. is due to any chief lord, John shall allow it in the said rent; William may take timber for repairs in John's parks of Gothurst and Stoke. [Bedford.] C. 4035. Grant by William de Holcot', clerk, to Roger son of Ranulph Ivel of Thurnecot' of two selions in the field of Boston, one on Claihul adjoining the 'Grenewey' from Buddenho to Thurnecot, &c. in exchange for two selions in another field.
[Devon.] C. 4036. Grant by Henry Rigold in pure alms to the prior and monks of St. Mary Magdalen, Barnastapolia, of 6d. rent from a tenement in the suburb of Barnastapolia, to keep his obit.

Grant by Robert son of Hugh Schell of Sonde to Thomas son of Hugh of Lecton of land held of Sir Nicholas de Audeleg' adjoining land whereon stood the bakehouse of Nicholas Ademet, with quittance of the tasting of ale brewed on that land and sold without assize, and of the toll of horses sold on that land, and of acting as bailiff to the chief lord of the fee, &c, paying a yearly rent of 2s. 6d. to the said chief lord for all service, saving all amends and breaches of assize committed on the said land. Grant by Richard de Bromfeld to his lord Sir Gilbert de Clare, earl of Gloucester and Hertford, of la. meadow called 'North- mannesaker' in Eastmed in the parish of Tonebregg, adjoining on two sides the meadow of the priory of Tonebregg and Shrolbeseyland on the third, for 30s. in gersum. Grant by Patrick de Hasilwall to Guy de Provincia in free marriage with Alina his sister, and the heirs of his body by the said Alina, of two carucates of land in his demesne in Aldefeld, a waste place of land tying between the arable of Aldefeld and the arable of Pennesby and Irbi, containing half a carucate, a fishery in the Dee within the bounds of Hasilwall, with a meadow belonging to Hasilwall as the brook (sichitus) runs from Depedall to the field called 'Harrowe,' and John son of Richard of Hasilwall, who was his bondman, with his sequel, rendering therefore 1d. or a pair of white gloves on the feast of St. Bartholomew. Grant by Roger Brun and Isabel his wife to Sir Oliver Wyth of 4s. yearly rent to be received from Ralph de Catton and his heirs out of a tenement late of Brian the cobbler (sutoris) in Great Yarmouth, between the denes (den) and the land of Nicholas Gruelschanke, to replace (alleviandum) 4s. yearly rent due to John de Waxtenham, clerk, out of a tenement late of Simon Ganye and Gerbergia his wife granted to the use of the friars minors of Yarmouth, to hold to the said Sir Oliver at the rent of a clove yearly at Martinmas. Grant by William le Brun of Schepe to William son of Sir William Burdet of three half-acres in the territory of Schepe viz. ½r. in Enewaldesdale, ½a. on Dichforlong and ½a. on Copthurnehul; grant also that William Burdet shall be preferred purchaser of any land he shall sell. Grant by Philip son of Eingnon de Malo Passu to David son of Philip de Malo Passu, for his homage and service and for four marks before hand, of a salt spring and salt belonging thereto in Over Wich (Superiore Wicho) at a yearly rent of a pair of white gloves due on the feast of St. Oswald the king. Quitclaim by Henry called 'Heumenur,' chaplain, to Hugh Payn, citizen of Chester, of his right in a messuage and ten lands (land') of arable land and a meadow in Forgatestrete, Chester, which Hugh bought from Robert de Englefeld and Lucy his wife. Grant by Richard Galyan of the parish of Wolewych to John Galyan the elder of the same and Maud relict of William Godesone of a messuage with curtilage and 5a. arable in the field called 'Carterisfeld,' with walls, pastures, hopes (hopis), &c., in the parish of Wolewych in the county of Kent in the parts of Essex. Grant by John de Belendene son of Walter de Belenden' to Geoffrey le Goddung of Aldwyk, for his homage and service and for two marks beforehand in gersum, of 1a. arable in the east field of Betelaue in 'le Hegink', at a yearly rent of 2d., the land not to be alienated to any religious house. Quitclaim by Lettice de Cestrefeld of Notingham to the prior and friars the order of St. Mary of Mount Carmel, Notingham of her right in a place of land in the street which is called 'le Motehalle Gate,' Notingham, which she has recovered against them by recognition of an assize of novel disseisin. Indenture of demise by Lucy Coroun to Ralph de Hasel- welle, for her life, of her dower, of the endowment of Sir Patrick de Haselwelle, of his demesne arable, with meadows, gardens, fisheries and with two cottages; to hold at a yearly rent of 31s. payable at the feasts of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin and St. Michael the greater; saving to her her dower of other tenements. rents and services in the aforesaid town of Haselwelle assigned to her in dower by the escheator of the earl of Chester; and the said Ralph authorizes distress on all his lands in Haselwelle for arrears of the said rent.
