November 1310

Nov. 22. (fn. 1)
Berwick-on-Tweed.
To the mayor and sheriffs of London. Order to cause provision to be made of other houses for the custody of the Templars, if the city gates be insufficient, and to receive the Templars from the constable of the Tower, and to imprison them separately in fetters, and to permit persons deputed by the inquisitors to see that the custody is well kept, etc. [Fœdera.]

Footnotes

  • 1. This date is clearly a mistake for April 28, for the preceding order is referred to in this one. Both orders embody much of that of November 22 (above, page 291). This, which has caused Rymer to erroneously regard the preceding order as a mere repetition of that of November 22, is, no doubt, the cause of the error in the date.
