Indenture between Richard son of Lewis Fitzlowys and William
Capell esquires, witnesses that where Richard alienated his manors
of West Thorndon, Feldhous and Gyngraff co. Essex to the yearly
value of 1000 marks and all charges to Richard duke of Gloucester,
who sold his interest therein to Queen Elizabeth, who sold hers
to Thomas archbishop of Canterbury; afterwards the said
Richard moved the said archbishop for the return of the said
manors for the sum of 1000l.: and as he cannot raise this sum
without the ruin of his heirs, it is now agreed between the parties
that William Capell shall have in bargain the manors of Porters,
Crekers and Umfreviles in Stebbyng, Much Salyng and Felstede
co. Essex, with lands called 'Holtes' and 'Wilchers' in Little
Salyng for the sum of 1000l. whereof 200 marks is paid in hand
and five marks paid to Henry earl of Essex at the desire of

has found security for the residue of the sum due to the cardinal;
in consideration of which the latter has caused an estate of the
said manors of West Thornton, Feldhous and Gyngraff to be
made to Richard and his heirs with certain remainders. And
Richard will cause all persons enfeoffed in his use in the above
manors in Stebbyng, Much Salyng and Felstede to ensure the
same to William Capell by fine, recovery or otherwise at cost of
both parties. And he and Alice his wife will rear such fine before
the justices of the common Bench at Westminster, with warranty

will deliver to William all charters and muniments in his possession
