Nov. 26. Letter of John duke of Suffolk reciting a will of his mother Alice duchess of Suffolk; enjoining his executors to take the issues and the profits of the manor of Norton under Hampden co. Somerset, which he purchased for 200l. of Katherine late wife of Sir Miles Stapleton and after of Sir Richard Harecourt; together with the manors of Cotton Hemnales co. Suffolk; of Newenham Courteney and Swereford co. Oxford; of West Witenham, Buryfeld, Langley and Bradley with lands etc. in South Moreton co. Berks; of Hatfeld Peverell and Termyns manors co. Essex; and of all other lands and tenements which the said Alice purchased since the death of her husband William duke of Suffolk, to pay her debts and fulfill her bequests not performed during her lifetime; but excluding from a share in the benefits such of her servants as have departed from her service. And the present duke John, having promised the said Alice that he would carry out her wishes on oath before the king and cardinal archbishop of Canterbury, to encourage the executors named by her to carry out administration of her estate, binds himself in 2000l. not to disturb them from receiving any part of the lady's livelihood specified in the articles, or from administering the same freely. In witness whereof he has set his seal, 26 November, 16 Edward IV, the deed to be enrolled in chancery and registered in the court of the archbishop of Canterbury; and he requires all the feoffees of the said manors to pay the executors all revenues of the same, according to the will of the said Alice, as they would eschew the duke's indignation and uttermost displeasure.
