Sept. 25.
Westminster.
To the escheator in Devon. Order to take the fealty of William Hankforde, and to give him livery of a moiety of the manor of Hurberton, and the issues thereof taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that by fine levied in the king's court with his licence John Wadham knight at his death held that moiety as jointly enfeoffed with the said William by grant of Cicely Turbervylle to them and John Hille now deceased and to the heirs of John Wadham, and that the same is held in chief by knight service.
To the same. Order to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the manors of Sylferton and Lustelegh, and with two messuages and two carucates of land in Dene and Lytelcombe within the manor of Brankescombe, delivering to Joan late the wife of John Wadham knight any issues thereof taken; as the king has learned (as above) that at his death John Wadham held the premises as jointly enfeoffed with her, namely one moiety of the manor of Sylferton by grant of Bartholomew Pyle and others, the other by grant of John Talbot and others, the manor of Lustelegh by grant of William Burleston, and the said messuages and land by grant of Thomas Bytelysgate to them for their lives, and that all are held of others than the king.
To the escheator in Gloucestershire. Like order, mutatis mutandis, concerning 22 marks of yearly rent issuing from two thirds of the manor of Sandhurst by Gloucestre, held by grant of William Beaumont to the said John and Joan for their lives and the life of the longest liver.
To the escheator in Devon. Like order, mutatis mutandis, concerning eight messuages, three carucates of land, 8 acres of meadow, 200 acres of pasture and 20 acres of wood in Egge Combe, Norton, Tachethorne, Wabbewelle, 'Knyghteslonde' and Shouele, held by John Wadham for life by demise of Bartholomew Pyle and others, with remainder to William son of the said John, the same being held of the dean and chapter of the cathedral church of St. Peter Exeter.
To the same. Like order concerning a messuage and 100 acres of land in Radesworthy, Fayrby and Foxcroft in the parish of Esse Raff, with the reversion of a messuage, 100 acres of land and 10 acres of meadow in Radysworthy held for life by Robert Calwodelegh and Gondre his wife; as the king has learned etc. that John Wadham held the premises as jointly enfeoffed with Thomas his son yet living by gift of Thomas Nitheway to them and the heirs male of the body of Thomas the son, and that they are held of John Henbaude lord of Esse Raff.

To the sheriff of Somerset and Dorset for the time being. Order of the issues, profits, commodities and revenues of those counties to pay to Henry Brounflet the king's esquire 20 marks a year for life which the king has granted him for good service. By K.

To Simon Grymmesby late mayor of Kyngeston upon Hull. Order, if a ship of Scotland called the 'Goddesknyght' and the goods therein are arrested only at suit of William Esyngton and Thomas Broune of Hornesebeke, and if those suitors be contented, to dearrest and deliver the same to Thomas Symson of Mounros in Scotland the owner, although lately the king commanded the mayor to arrest the said ship and goods, which were taken at sea by William Pounde and brought to the said port, and were there arrested by William Esyngton it is said, and to safe keep them until further order, and by virtue of that writ the same are by the mayor arrested and kept under arrest, as the king is informed; as the said owner has contented William Esyngton and Thomas Broune, at whose suit the arrest was made, as the king has learned. To the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer. Order to make Henry Kays the king's clerk, keeper of the hanaper of chancery, allowance in his account of 20s. by him paid for rushes bought in Easter term last for the great hall of Westminster.
June 29.
Westminster.
To the customers in the port of Suthampton and the keepers of the passage there. Order without taking custom or subsidy to suffer the ambassadors of the count of Alençon in England to ship in a vessel in that port and take over to his own parts 400lb. of 'sallepetir,' 100lb. of 'souffirvif,' two dozen horns, eight pairs of leather bottles (utrium), 200 bows, twelve coats of mail, eight pairs of 'avantbras,' six pairs of 'gantelez,' six 'hostades,' four basins and four ewers bought and purveyed for the use and profit of the count, any former command to the contrary notwithstanding. Order to take the fealty of Joan late the wife of John Wadham knight, and to give her livery of the manor of Hardyngton and the issues thereof taken, but to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the other manors and lands hereinafter mentioned, delivering to her any issues of those taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that at his death by fine levied in the late king's court with his licence John Wadham held in his demesne as of fee tail, being jointly enfeoffed with the said Joan, the manors of Hardyngton and Muryfelde, and a messuage and 2½ carucates of land in 'Overattebeare, Netherattebeare' and Homere by gift of Thomas Hertyscote and John Lopynforde to them and the heirs male of Joan's body by John Wadham, also by fines levied in the king's court 6 acres of land, and a moiety of 10 acres [of land (fn. 1) ] and 1 acre of wood in Wyghtlakyngton, a messuage, 8 acres of land and half an acre of meadow in Ayssheforde and Ilton by gift of Robert Langebroke and Christina his wife, and 13 acres of land and 1 acre of wood in Wyghtlakyngton by gift of John Mocheldevere of Wyke by Langeport and Edith his wife to them and the heirs male by John Wadham begotten of the said Joan, and that he held in his demesne as of fee jointly with the said Joan 30 acres of land, half an acre of meadow and 2 acres of wood in Wyghtlakyngton, Cleyangre and Ile Abbots by gift of John Moure, and twelve messuages, 300 acres of land, 40 acres of meadow, 100 acres of pasture and 22 acres of wood in Eyndeston, Staundoun and Bouedenmerewe co. Somerset by grant of John Wake chaplain and others to them and the heirs of John Wadham, that he likewise held jointly with the said Joan the manor of Haydoun co. Dorset by demise of Thomas Brokhampton and others to them and the heirs male of his body, and that the manor of Hardyngton is held in chief by knight service, the other manors, lands etc. of other lords; and for 40s. paid in the hanaper the king has respited the homage of the said Joan until Easter day next.
To Robert Veel escheator in Somerset. Like order, mutatis mutandis, to meddle no further with a moiety of the manor of Chilton Cauntelowe; as the king has learned etc. that by fine levied in the late king's court John Wadham held that moiety for life by gift of Thomas Hertyscote and John Lopynford, with remainder to William his son and to the heirs male of his body, and that it is held of another than the king.
