Westminster.
To the sheriff of Northumberland for the time being. Order, notwithstanding the preference of 10,000l. given to the king in the parliament holden at Westminster in 1 Henry V, to pay to John Calverton of Northumberland 2s. a day for his life, and the arrears since 7 December last, on which date, for his relief and for good service to the late king and to the king, and also for relief and maintenance during his life of prisoners in the king's prison of the castle of Newcastle upon Tyne, who for lack of victuals suffer grievous hunger as the king has learned, the king granted to him for life the office of janitor of that castle, taking therein 2s. a day by the sheriff's hands, with all other commodities and profits to the office pertaining.
