Westminster.
To the sheriff of York. Strict order to cause proclamation to be made, that none of the lieges under pain of forfeiture shall repair to Denmark or any place therein for any traffic or to get fish save to the town of Norbarne where a staple is established; as the king has learned that lately the king of Denmark for particular causes has caused proclamation to be made in Denmark and other his territories, dominions and jurisdictions, that all English lieges willing to repair thither for traffic or to get fish shall touch at Norbarne and not at Fynmarke nor elsewhere within his realm etc. save Norbarne, where he has appointed his staple for traffic with them; and the king's will is that this be brought to the knowledge of his lieges, lest they should make any attempt contrary to the said order and proclamation, especially as the king of Denmark is of the friendship of the king and realm.
Like writs to ten other sheriffs of thirteen counties, and to the sheriffs of Newcastle upon Tyne, Bristol and London.

Robert Waltham, son and heir of Walter Waltham of Waltham Holy Cross co. Essex, to John Gladwyn citizen of London, his heirs and assigns. Quitclaim with warranty of divers lands in Waltham aforesaid called 'Foteslonde,' reciting that the said Walter in his life time was seised of the said lands in fee simple, that he made a feoffment thereof in fee simple to William Adam and others under certain conditions, to wit that Margaret who was wife of the said Walter should have the same for life by their demise, with remainder to the said Robert and his heirs, that although the said Robert as son and heir did at Waltham and elsewhere many times request William Adam and all and singular the other feoffees to fulfil those conditions and perform his father's will, they all refused so to do, by virtue whereof he as son and heir did enter the premises, and was thereof seised in fee simple, and that he has made a feoffment thereof to John Gladwyn, his heirs and assigns. To the sheriff of Kent. Strict order at his peril to cause proclamation to be made, that men of the townships of Kent whatsoever shall under the pains in the statutes contained keep watch at night, search day and night to spy thieves, and apply their whole power to pursue and take them, as they are bound to do according to the statutes, and order himself to take with him a sufficient power, if need be, and to repair from time to time to the towns, woods and other places where robberies and thefts are most often committed, and to give diligence to spy out and take the thieves, that such robberies etc. be not hereafter by his default or lukewarmness committed in his bailiwick; as the king has true information by report of many that in singular the counties of England great number of robberies and thefts are now of late committed by thieves gathering together in excessive number, more than used to be in times past, in contempt of the king, in breach of the peace, and to the terror of the lieges, whereat the king is much disturbed, especially because the sheriff and men of the townships of Kent give not due diligence to spy out and take the thieves according to the statute of Winchester and other statutes, and his will is to provide a remedy, and that those statutes be kept in every article.

Writ of supersedeas until the quinzaine of St. Martin next in respect of their demand upon William Poulet, Hugh Kene and Robert Burgh and upon the late and now escheators in Somerset to answer or account for a rent of 12l. a year of the hundred of Exton and of a third part of the manors of Exton and Neuton Plecy from the day when an inquisition after the death of William Gaston was taken before William Carant late escheator, that in the meantime it may be determined whether that rent ought to pertain to the king or to the said William Poulet, Hugh and Robert; as a plea is pending in chancery between the king and them concerning that rent which by the said inquisition is taken into the king's hand.

Condition, that he shall abide the award of Thomas Elys and Adam Iwode arbitrators chosen on his behalf, John Darell and Thomas Horden on behalf of the said William, or three of them, touching all matters, demands and debates between the parties, so that the same be made before the quinzaine of Michaelmas next, and if the arbitrators may not agree, the award of John Martyn one of the justices of the Common Bench, the umpire chosen by the parties, so that it be made before the morrow of All Souls, and if it be not, that he shall appear in chancery at the morrow of St. Martin following.
