To the escheator in Suffolk. Order to take the fealty of
Richard Walgrave, Andrew Botiller knights, Robert de Teye,
Richard Baynarde, Simon Prentys parson of Little Corneherth
and Richard perpetual vicar of Assyngton, and to give them
livery of the manor of Aketone called Rokewodes and Lyes, but
to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the manors
of Baleysdene and Brockeley, delivering to the said Richard
Waldegrave and the others any issues thereof taken; as it is
found by inquisition, taken before Edmund Wynter the late
king's escheator, that William Rokewode at his death held no
lands in Suffolk in chief nor of any other in demesne nor in service,
but was lately seised in fee of the manors of Aketone called Rokewodes, Lyes and Baleysdene in Aketone, and of the manor of
Brockeley called Ingham, and gave the same, by name of all his
lands, rents and services in Aketone, Melforde and Grotone, with
all in Brokeley, Hertest, Whepstede and Lauselle to Thomas
Swynborne, Edmund Thorp, Robert Corbet the younger knights,
John Rokewode and Richard Wythermersshe, all now deceased,
and to Richard Waldegrave and the others yet living, their heirs
and assigns, that they were thereof seised, and the survivors at
the time of that inquisition, that the manor called Rokewodes and
Lyas was held of the late king by knight service as of the honour
of Peverell, and the manors of Baylesdene and Brockeley of others
than the king, and that by reason of that trespass the manor of
Aketone called Rokewodes and Lyes was taken into the late
king's hand; and for a fine paid in the hanaper the king has
pardoned the trespasses therein committed, and for one mark
there paid has respited the homages of Richard Waldegrave and
the others until Whitsuntide next. |

To the escheator in Gloucestershire. Order to take the fealty
of Richard Wyche, and to give him and John Lanoy livery of the
manor of Temple Guytynge, and the issues thereof taken; as
it is found by inquisition, taken before Nicholas Alderley late
escheator, that Elizabeth who was wife of John de Clynton knight
at her death held that manor in dower of the heritage of William
de Clynton knight by endowment of her husband, that afterwards
William de Clynton as cousin and heir of the said John, namely
son of William his son, granted the reversion thereof by fine to
Henry Nansmere now deceased, Richard Wyche and John
Lanoy and to their heirs, and the said Elizabeth attorned tenant
to them, that she died thereof so seised, and that the same is
held in chief by knight service; and the king has taken the fealty
of John Lanoy, and for 20s. paid in the hanaper has respited the
homage of John Lanoy and the said Richard until Whitsuntide
next. |
Nov. 27. Westminster. |
To the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer. Order not
to trouble Thomas Ferrers esquire for his homage; as on 4
December 8 Henry V for a fine paid in the hanaper the late king
respited to a day now past the homages of Thomas Ferrers who
took to wife Elizabeth Freville one of the sisters and heirs of
Baldwin Freville knight, son and heir of Baldwin Freville knight
son and heir of Baldwin Freville knight husband of Joyce who
was wife of Adam Peshale knight, and of Hugh Wylughby of
Wollaton co. Notyngham esquire who took to wife Margaret
another sister and heir, due by reason of issue between them and
their wives begotten for their purparties of all lands held by the
said Joyce in dower or otherwise for life of their wives' heritage
and the heritage of Robert Aston, son and heir of Roger Aston
knight and Joyce his wife the third sister and heir, who was within
age and in ward of that king, commanding livery to be given them
of the said purparties; and the king has taken the homage of
Thomas Ferrers. By p.s. [965.] |

knight has now taken to wife, and the issues thereof taken since
2 March 9 Henry V; as on that date the late king ordered the then
escheator in presence of the said farmers etc. to assign to the
said Eleanor, of whom he commanded William Cheyne to take
an oath etc., dower of the said John's lands, taken into that
king's hands by his death and by reason of the nonage of
John his son and heir, and the late king died before he
