To the sheriff of Kent. Writ, reciting the statutes of 8
Henry VI and of the last parliament, the latter that knights of
the shire shall be notable knights thereof, or otherwise notable
esquires, and gentlemen born therein fit to be made knights,
and not of the degree of yeoman or of inferior degree, and
ordering him at the next county [court] to make proclamation
of the day and place aforesaid, and to cause two knights of the
shire girt with the sword, two citizens of every city and two
burgesses of every borough to be elected by those present at the
proclamation according to those statutes and another long ago
published, inserting their names, whether present or absent,
in indentures made between the sheriff and the electors, and
causing them to come to the parliament; and order to certify
such election in chancery at the day and place named under the
seals of the sheriff and the electors, sending again one part of
such indentures sewn to this writ. The king's will is that the
sheriff be not elected, nor any other sheriff. By K. |

and to cause two men to be elected as knights of the shire of
Bristol and burgesses of the town and borough by those present
etc. (as above) according to the liberties and quittances granted
to the burgesses by charters of former kings and confirmed by the
king, inserting etc. The king's will etc. (as above); as among
other such liberties it was granted that the town shall not be
charged to send to parliament but two men, as used to be done
before 8 August 47 Edward III, who shall therein be bound to
answer as knights of the shire and burgesses. |

Richard abbot of the house and church of St. Nectan Hertland
and the convent to Nicholas Sturgeon precentor of the cathedral
church of St. Paul London. Grant indented for his life of a
yearly rent of 10l. to be taken of and in their manor of Hertland
co. Devon, and of 6s. 8d. to be of them levied in name of a pain
so often as that rent or any parcel thereof shall be three months

before John Giffard, by virtue of a dedimus potestatem which is
