Westminster.
Robert Ardern esquire to John Vampage the elder and John Vampage the younger. Recognisance for 400l., to be levied etc. in Warwickshire.
Condition, that before Ascension day next he, John Spechesley and Mary his wife shall by fine levied of record in the king's court and by writing or deed sufficient in law, and enrolled in chancery, make them a good estate in the manor of Nafford, the advowsons of Nafford church and Byrlyngham chapel, and all the manors, lands, rents, reversions and services, woods, fisheries, etc. in Nafford, Byrlyngham, Ekynton, Great Comberton, Little Comberton, Chaddesley, Ruyhale, Severn Stoke and Hanley co. Worcester late of William Golafre esquire, to them and the heirs of John Vampage the elder, binding themselves to warranty thereof, and suffering those grantees to take all issues and profits of the same from 20 April next without let or plea of themselves or any person claiming title or interest by them or any of them; that within three months after he shall come of age Walter Ardern, firstborn son of the said Robert, shall by like fine and by deed enrolled of record in chancery make a quitclaim to them and their heirs of the manors, lands etc. aforesaid, binding himself to warranty thereof, and after his death Thomas Ardern his brother, when he shall come of age, shall do likewise, and if he shall die without so doing John Ardern his brother, and if he shall likewise die William Ardern his brother shall do it; and that before Midsummer day next the said Robert shall deliver to them all charters, evidences and muniments concerning the premises without fraud or covin of him, the said John Spechesley and Mary, and within seven years the said Ardern (sic) shall purchase anew, to him, John Vampage the elder, John Vampage the younger and the heirs and assigns of the said John and John lands etc. to the value of 20 marks a year, and shall make an estate thereof in possession to those purchasers and to the heirs of John Vampage the elder.
Richard Clerk of Bristol to Richard Chok of Staunton Drewe and Joan his wife and to the heirs and assigns of Richard Chok. Gift with warranty of the moiety of a messuage in Staunton Drewe called 'Milleplace' and of a fulling mill and 10 acres of land there now in the tenure of Richard Forster of Bristol the elder, the whole messuage and curtilage there in the tenure of Florence Taillour, the arable land adjacent, a messuage called 'Selyes' and all lands etc. thereto adjacent of old time, and all the lands etc. in Staunton Drewe late of Richard Clerk his father. Witnesses: John Halle clerk, John Botiller esquire, William Pavy, John Chok, John Caudell. Dated 9 June 27 Henry VI.
Richard Clerk of Bristol merchant to Richard Chok of Staunton Drewe and Joan his wife, their heirs and assigns. Quitclaim with warranty of the messuage and virgate of land and meadow in Staunton Drewe which were of Richard Clerk his father, sometime in the tenure of John Watkyns. Witnesses: William Pavy, William Cachemay, John Cole. Dated Tuesday after St. Thomas the Apostle 28 Henry VI.
Richard Clerk of Bristol to Richard Brigge and John Wight. Letter of attorney, appointing them to enter the moiety of a messuage in Staunton Drewe called 'Milleplace,' of a water corn mill and fulling mill, and 10 acres of land in the tenure of Richard Forster of Bristol the elder, a messuage and curtilage there in the tenure of Florence Taillour, the arable land adjacent, a messuage there called 'Selyes' and all lands adjacent of old time, and all lands etc. in Staunton Drewe which were of Richard Clerk his father, and to give Richard Chok of Staunton Drewe and Joan his wife seisin thereof. Dated 9 June 27 Henry VI.
Memorandum of acknowledgment of the foregoing writings at Bristol 24 June this year before John Halle, by virtue of a dedimus potestatem which is on the chancery file for this year.
John Arnold the elder of London 'gentilman' to John Arnold the younger his son and William Hampton citizens and fishmongers of London their heirs, executors and assigns. Gift of all his goods and chattels within the realm and over sea, and all debts to him due. Dated 25 April 28 Henry VI.

Gift of the 2s. in the pound which the clergy of the province at their last convocation granted to the archbishop for defence of the church of England, to be levied of the goods of men of religion and others not bound to contribute to the tenth, with certain exceptions (as above, p. 185). Dated Lamehith manor, 17 July 1450, 7 of his translation.

Henry Chicheley of Middlesex esquire to Henry Bourgchier knight viscount le Bourgchier, John Clopton 'gentilman,' Walter Shelley and Robert Walter, their executors and assigns. Gift with warranty of all his goods and chattels in the parish of St. Mary Matfelon, in Middlesex and elsewhere within the realm, and all debts to him due; and he has put them in possession thereof by delivery of one silver bowl (cratere) with cover (cooperculo), price or value 100s. Gift of all his goods and chattels, property, merchandise, wares and debts within the realm and elsewhere; and he has put them in possession thereof by delivery of one piece of silver. Dated London, 11 August 1450, 28 Henry VI.
