Oct. 16.
To the customers or collectors for the time being of customs and subsidies in the port of St. Botolph. Order to suffer John Hudleston, Thomas Stephenson, Thomas Wymbyssh and Robert Sutton, merchants of the staple of Calais, three, two or one of them, their deputies or attorneys, to ship in that port in one or divers ships once or divers times as they please, and take over to Calais so many sacks and cloves of wool and woolfells that the subsidies thereupon due, over and above 20s. appointed for Calais, shall amount to 84l. 15s. 0¾d., keeping by indentures in their own hands such subsidies over and above the said 20s. until they shall reach that sum; as at the request of certain subjects of his etc. Philip duke of Burgundy caused all goods etc. of merchants of England in Flanders to be seized etc. (as above, p. 13), and an agreement was concluded etc., and 4,000 marks was paid by the mayor and fellowship of merchants of the said staple; and although etc. by letters patent of 2 June, 29 Henry VI, the king granted to Richard Warter (and others, as above, p. 15) merchants of the said fellowship, that they should so ship in the port of Kyngeston upon Hull and take over wool etc., keeping the subsidies in their own hands until the same should amount to 3,000 marks, the sum of 1,805l. 8s. 10½d. remains due to them, whereof 84l. 15s. 0¾d. pertains to the said John, Thomas, Thomas and Robert, and according to an act etc. the king has granted that they, three, two or one of them, their deputies or attorneys, may ship and take over wool etc. in the port of St. Botolph, keeping in their own hands the subsidies thereupon, as aforesaid.
To the customers or collectors (as above). Like order, mutatis mutandis, in favour of John Pulter and Thomas Stephenson in respect of 167l. 17s. 6d.
To the customers or collectors etc. in the port of London. Like order, mutatis mutandis, in favour of John Tate and William Wygston in respect of 70l. 16s. 3d.
To the customers or collectors etc. in the port of St. Botolph. Like order, mutatis mutandis, in favour of William Goldryng, William Cawode and John Hode in respect of 47l. 7s. 9½d.
To the collectors for the time being of the subsidy upon wool, hides and woolfells in the port of London. Like order, mutatis mutandis, in favour of John Walden in respect of 21l. 4s. 8¼d.
To the customers or collectors for the time being of customs and subsidies in the port of St. Botolph. Like order, mutatis mutandis, in favour of Thomas Gosse in respect of 20l. 13s. 8¾d.
To the customers or collectors etc. in the port of Kyngeston upon Hull. Like order, mutatis mutandis, in favour of John Threske and Thomas Beverley in respect of 32l. 11s. 6½d.

To the collectors for the time being of the subsidy upon wool, hides and woolfells in the port of St. Botolph. Order during the grant of the said subsidy to pay by indenture to the victualler of Calais for the time being or to his attorney 6s. 8d. upon every sack of wool, every 240 woolfells and every last of hides, being the residue of 20s. parcel of the said subsidy, at the end of every shipment thereof, according to the act hereinafter mentioned; as upon every sack etc. 20s. parcel of the subsidy was in the last parliament assigned to the treasurer and victualler of Calais for the time being for prompt payment of wages and victuals of the hired soldiers and officers of the town and castle and of the marches, and for security and safe guard thereof, and for such payment, by authority of that parliament the king has appointed that during the said grant those sums shall be straightway delivered by the customers and collectors to the said treasurer and victualler or to their attorney, namely that of the said 20s. the treasurer shall receive 13s. 4d. and the victualler 6s. 8d., and that the customers or collectors shall not withdraw from them, conceal nor embezzle any parcel thereof, but truly deliver it at the end of every shipment under pain of forfeiting so much as shall be found by him withdrawn etc., the third part being laid out in payment of wages to the treasurer and victualler, and the residue upon repairs by them made at Calais, with proviso that the said act should not prejudice any act of Humphrey duke of Buckingham, late captain of Calais, for payment to him and the hired soldiers of Calais of wages and fees to them due, until the same should be fully paid them.
