Order to pay George Lovekyn, tailor of London, 12d. a day out of the fee farm of that city, and 100s. a year for his house, as the king has appointed him tailor of the great wardrobe, by himself or sufficient deputy for his life with the fees abovesaid.

Nov. 23. To the sheriffs of London for the time being. Order to pay William Eustace 12d. a day for his life out of the fee farm of London and Middlesex, as by letters patent of 18 November last the king appointed him to be one of his sergeants at arms.

Feb. 11. To the treasurer and chamberlains for the time being. Order to pay Walter Lemster doctor of medicine 40l. a year for his life, and the arrears since Easter last, since by letters patent of 7 February last the king appointed him to be one of his physicians with fees aforesaid.

Feb. 7. To the same. Order to pay Christopher Sandes 6d. a day for his life, and the arrears since 30 December last; on which date the king appointed him to the office of yeoman tailor of the great wardrobe to be held by himself or sufficient deputy with fees aforesaid.

Feb. 10. To the same. Order to pay William Vampage 50 marks a year and the arrears since 8 January last: on which date by letters patent the king appointed him to the office of dapifer (cupbearer) with fees aforesaid.

Jan. 26. To the collectors of customs and subsidies of wools and woolfells in the port of Gippewic for the time being. Order to permit the mayor, society and merchants of the staple of Calais, to retain all customs of wools called 'shorlyng' and 'morlyng' within their hands, shipped to the above port: since the late king, on 12 December, 12 Edward IV, by authority of parliament, for security of the said port and castle, for payment of wages and regards to his lieutenant and soldiers therein, and in the castles of Ruysbank, Guynes and Hammes and the marches, for fees and regards of the customers and collectors of the great subsidy in the port of London, for safe conduct of merchandise, and to pay 21,000l. due to the mayor of Calais, and 27,000l. which at that king's request, the said mayor advanced to John Prout, Richard Stokes and Thomas Keston, to redeem the king's jewels, King Edward granted the aforesaid mayor, that for sixteen years from 8 October, 13 Edward IV, they should receive all customs from wools called 'shorlyng' and 'morlyng' shipped from that port without payment of aught to the king or his heirs, saving deniers and customs of Calais, by indentures between them, whereby the customers etc. shall be discharged at the exchequer.

March 6. To the escheator in Suffolk. Order to grant seisin of the manor of Braunford alias Levetotys to John lord Scrope, John Scrope esquire and Henry Wentworth: since it is learnt by inquisition before Robert de Thorpe justice etc. in 39 Edward III, that a fine was levied between Sir John Tybetot and Elizabeth his wife prosecutors, and Clement de Brethenham, Andrew de Wauton and Philip Chamberlyne deforciants, of Braunford manor which Ralph Spigurnell held for term of his life, with remainder to Clement, Andrew and Philip: who assigned the same to Sir John and Elizabeth Tybetot: and they by virtue thereof, were seised of the manor; and after their deaths it passed subsequently to Edward son of John earl of Worcester, who was son of Payn son of Sir John and Elizabeth, and by reason of Edward's nonage it was taken unto the king's hands: and John lord Scrope is son of Henry son of Margaret daughter of Robert son of Sir John Tybetot, and Henry Wentworth son of Philip son of Margaret son of Elizabeth another daughter of Robert Tybetot: and John Scrope esquire is son of Stephen son of Millicent the third daughter of Robert Tybetot. Nov. 12. To the farmers, receivers or approwers of wools for sale in the county and city of York and the town of Kingston on Hull for the time being. Order to pay Richard Wilson 12d. a day for his life out of the subsidies and ulnage of the same, and the arrears since 23 August last; on which date the king appointed him to be one of his sergeants at arms with fees aforesaid.

Feb. 9. To the farmers, bailiffs or occupiers of Colde Kenyngton manor or the sheriff of Middlesex for the time being. Order to pay Robert Marleton 12d. a day for his life out of the issues of the same, and the arrears since 20 September last; on which date by letters patent the king appointed him to the office of 'virgebank' or 'virger' to carry the king's wand at the feast of St. George within Windsor castle: which sum was allotted to virgebanks in time of Edward III, as is known by a certificate in chancery.

Nov. 22. To the abbot and convent of Wynchecombe for the time being. Order to pay William Lovell 6d. a day for his life, and the arrears since 22 October last: on which date by letters patent the king granted him the office of making and guarding his arrows within the Tower of London, with all wages, profits, houses and commodities thereto pertaining, out of the fee farms of the hundreds of Keftegate, Holford and Greston with fairs and markets in the town of Winchecombe at the hands of the abbot etc. which were paid in 22 Edward IV according to the great roll of the exchequer.

Dec. 8. To the sheriff of Cambridge and Huntingdon for the time being. Order to pay master Christopher Urswyke the king's almoner 8 marks a year for his life, and the arrears since 26 November last: on which date by letters patent he became master of the King's Hall at Cambridge, with fees aforesaid and two gowns, one of skin and one of livery out of the issues of those counties.

Feb. 3. To the receivers, farmers, bailiffs and other the occupiers of the fee farm of Arnoll for the time being. Order to pay the prior of Holy Trinity Lenton by Notyngham of the Cluniac order and his successors 10l. a year and the arrears since 20 June, 14 Edward IV: as the late king by letters patent of that date conferred the said sum on Thomas then prior of Lenton, for term of life of Leonard son of Sir John Say, or until the prior and convent had entered into possession of the free chapel in the honour of Tykhill, parcel of the duchy of Lancaster, with all lands and tenements, rents, reversions and services, advowsons, profits, commodities, liberties and franchises thereto pertaining at the hands of the receivers etc. aforesaid.

Order to make due allowances to the sheriffs of London and Middlesex in their accounts, for payments of 12d. a day to Nicholas Barley the king's servant, whom his highness on 4 December last appointed to be his skinner (pelliparius) with wages and arrears since that date, to hold that office for life by himself or sufficient deputy: and it is ascertained that such wages were formerly allotted to Henry Barton, skinner to King Henry IV.
Jan. 30. To the sheriffs of London and Middlesex. Order for payment of 12d. a day and the arrears since 4 December last, to Nicholas Barley under the same date.

Order to pay Ralph Wodward the king's servant 8d. a day for his life and the arrears since 22 November last: on which date the king, for his good services, appointed him to the office of overseer of all workers (lathamorum) of lead and of all manner of stocks (stuffarorum) of work in the palace of Westminster or the Tower of London, to be occupied by himself or sufficient deputy with wages aforesaid such as the late John Brynket enjoyed; and it is ascertained by certificate of the treasurer, that the same was paid to William Hill in time of King Edward IV out of the fee farm of Portesmouth.

Order to pay Stephen Stone, the king's servant, twenty marks a year for his life and the arrears since 22 November last: on which date by letters patent, his highness appointed him to the office of promoter within the realm, to hold in as full and ample a manner as his predecessors with fees aforesaid.

July 24. To the escheator in Middlesex. Order to take fealty of Elizabeth late wife of Thomas Wyndesore, and to give her seisin of the manor of Stanewell: since it is found by inquisition that the said Thomas enfeoffed Robert Grene esquire, John Holgrave and Thomas Alberton therein: and they by license of the king, reinfeoffed the same to him and Elizabeth and the heirs of their bodies: by virtue of which enfeoffment the said Thomas and Elizabeth were seised therein in fee tail, and had a son Andrew who is yet alive: and Thomas died so seised and Elizabeth overlived him: and the manor is held of the king in chief as of Windsor castle by service of half a knight's fee rendered at the castle ward on the fortieth day for 16s. 8d.: and for 10s. paid in the hanaper the king has respited the homage of Elizabeth till Christmas next.
To the escheator in Berks. Like order, substituting Westhagburne manor for Stanewell.
To the escheator in Surrey. Like order, as by inquisition etc. it was learnt that William Brocas held Peperharow manor of Thomas Wyndesore by service of half a knight's fee, paying half a mark each twenty-fourth week, and suit at his court every three weeks for heriet to Thomas and Elizabeth: Richard Brigges late prior of Newerk co. Surrey held Hurtmere manor of them for 6s. 8d. Benedict Brocas held Estbury manor (3s. 4d.). William Brocas held Downe manor (3s. 4d.). Edmund late duke of Somerset, the king's grandfather, held Bageshote manor. Sir Thomas Bourgchier held Westhorsley manor (3s. 4d.). Robert Skeyrne held a tenement called 'Berewhill' and 100 acres of land in Kyngstonfold and Dyttonfeld between 'Copedgrove' and 'Skynnershege' at ¼ knight's fee for 20s. And Thomas and Elizabeth enfeoffed Robert Grene in those manors of Stanwell by license of the king of whom they are held in chief for half a knight's fee for 16s. 8d. each fortieth week: and for a fine paid in the hanaper the king has respited the homage of Elizabeth to a future day.
m. 18. To the escheator in Buckingham. Like order in favour of Elizabeth Wyndesore respecting the manor of Hardemede held by Humphrey Catesby and Joan his wife by service of one knight's fee, paying 6s. 8d. each 24th week in suits or heriets: and Burnham held by Robert Manfeld half a knight's fee for 3s. 8½d. and Horton manor, whereof three fourths are held by William Davers and Alice his wife at 41s. and a quarter by Richard Bulstrode and Alice his wife at 13s. 8d.

To the receivers of Bristol castle or the sheriff etc. Order to pay Giles Daubeney knight 20l. a year out of the fee farm of the town, and the arrears since 12 October last: on which date by letters patent the king appointed him to be Constable of Bristol castle for his life, with additional wages of 2d. a day for a janitor, and ½d. a day for a watchman.

June 23. To the sheriff of Essex and Hertford for the time being. Order to pay the Prior and Convent of the House of the Salutation of Our Lady, of the Carthusian order in London and their successors 18 marks a year and the arrears since 20 November last: on which date the present king confirmed by letters patent a grant to that house by King Edward IV on 23 February, 1 Edward IV.

July 1. To the receivers and farmers and other the occupiers of the demesnes and hundreds of Medylton and Merden co. Kent etc. Order to pay John Pende 2d. a day for his life and the arrears since 1 October last: on which day by letters patent, in consideration of his faithful service, the king appointed him to the office of warden of Chestenwode wood co. Kent, to be held by himself or sufficient deputy for life, with the above wages, which were paid of old time for that office.

To the treasurer and chamberlains etc. Order to pay John Heyron and John Fogge esquires 10 marks a year for life and the arrears since 1 October last: when the king by letters patent appointed them to be keepers of the writs and rolls: and the above fees, as appears by certificate enrolled in the chancery, were paid to William Wandeford and Richard Creton late keepers of the writs etc.

To the mayor, sheriffs and bailiffs of Bristol etc. Order to pay Giles Daubeney knight 7½d. a day for his life and the arrears since 12 October last: on which date by letters patent the king appointed him to be keeper of the forests of Kyngeswode and Fillewode cos. Gloucester and Somerset; to be held by himself or sufficient deputy, with all wages, fees, liveries, profits and regards as of old established: which wages were paid to Hugh de Segrave, keeper in the time of King Edward III, as is shown by treasurer's certificates in the chancery files.

Order to pay Thomas Arundell lord Matravers, the king's kinsman, 300 marks, to wit 200 marks out of the subsidy called 'tonnage and poundage' in the port of London, and the residue of the custom of wools and woolfells in the port of London, for term of his life, and the arrears since 6 July last, when by letters patent the king made him the above grant.
To the collectors of customs and subsidies in the port of Southampton etc. Like orders to pay to Thomas Arundell 100 marks a year out of the customs and subsidies of wools etc. in that port.

August 3. To the sheriff of Bedford and Buckingham for the time being. Order to pay John Asteley knight 20l. a year for his life out of the issues of these counties and the arrears since 27 July last, when by letters patent the king made him the above grant.

June 12. To the sheriff of Kent for the time being. Order to pay Ralph Neville earl of Westmoreland, a certain annual rent of 30l., taking security for payment of a reasonable relief, and the arrears since 3 March last year: since by inquisition before William Mauliverer escheator to Richard III, it was learnt that Ralph Neville late earl, held the same rent by service of one knight's fee: and the present earl is his nephew and heir, being son of John Neville brother of Ralph, and is of full age: and the late king, for a fine paid in the hanaper on 13 March, 2 Richard III, respited his homage to a day now expired.

July 4. To the treasurer and barons of the exchequer. Order to pay David Philip, esquire of the king's body, an annual rent of 50 marks, and the arrears since 24 October, when the king made him the above grant at the exchequer by letters patent.

June 20. To the customers or collectors of customs and subsidies in the port of Sandwich for the time being. Order to suffer Cecily duchess of York, the late king's mother, her factors and attorneys, native or alien, yearly during her life, to ship 250½ sacks of wool, barbed or clacked, of her own goods or of others, in the ports of London, Sandwich or Southampton, in any galley or carrack, once or divers times at her choice, through the straits of Marrock to whatsoever foreign parts; freely, without any customs or deniers paid to the king or his heirs, or let or molestation of his officers or ministers, and to hold and retain in her hands all customs and subsidies for the wools so shipped, testifying the same by indentures, whereby the customers may be discharged at the exchequer: and with permission to ship the surplus in any succeeding year, for failure to ship the whole amount preceding: since King Edward IV in the first year of his reign, assigned to the said duchess 400l. a year out of the customs of wools in Kyngeston on Hull and 9l. 6s. 8d. out of the customs in London in full recompense of the jointure due to her on the death of her husband Richard duke of York, of all the castles, honours, demesnes, manors, townships, lands and tenements, annuities, knights' fees, advowsons, franchises and courts leet etc. of the said Richard, in England, Wales, the marches and Ireland the day he died, 30 December, 1460: and since the said duchess showed to the present king that payment of these sums out of the customs would be prejudicial to her, King Henry granted her the abovesaid right to ship 250 sacks of wool annually free of all duties to him.

Salop with wages and fees aforesaid, payable by the bailiffs of Brigge.

Demise and quitclaim with warranty of a messuage in the suburbs of Bristol, and six shops, a garden and 3s. of rent and a pound of pepper out of a tenement upon Baccaabove, and 5s. rent from another beside the Town Wall, and other rents, 14s. 6d. in all, which John Baryero recovered against John Yong at Hilary last at Westminster in the king's court. Indenture between William viscount Beaumont lord Bardolf and Folkyngham on the one part, and dame Katherine widow of William late lord Hastynges and Edward lord Hastynges her son on the other part, whereby it is agreed that the said viscount shall make before Easter next to Katherine and Edward aforesaid, William Strode and Richard Reynold guildmen a sufficient estate of the manors of Hekyngton, Welbourne, Bykar, Repynghale, Lavyngton and Avethorpe cos. Lincoln of the fee of Winchester in Leicestershire and Warwickshire and Edmonton or Edelmeton manor co. Middlesex, with all lands and tenements, reversions, services, advowsons, moors, marshes, mines, woods, warrens, offices, fee farms, tolls, waters, ponds, stews, fishings, mills, knights' fees, courts, views of frankpledge, fairs, markets, fines, amercements, forfeitures, liberties and franchises thereto belonging to them and their assigns during the lives of Katherine and Edward, and also of the manors of Sapparton, Birthorpe and Haslakby co. After which judgement the viscount shall allow Guy Fayrefax etc. to have legal execution of the premises, to make a lawful estate thereof to Katherine and Edward etc., and he shall ratify the same and have it enrolled in chancery within six weeks. And being seised of Shepeshed manor co. Leicester, he shall before Easter make to Katherine and Edward an annual rent thereof with clause of distress: and he shall discharge all the above manors in Lincolnshire etc. of all annuities, grants or recognisances.
