PREFACE

The present volume continues the series of Calendars of the Close Rolls from the reign of Edward I, and contains the first half of the reign of Henry VII. It will be noticed that the contents have changed considerably since the last volume. The private documents on the dorse as to the gift of goods and chattels become more infrequent and there is an increasing number of bonds given by the King for loyalty which characterises the whole reign. The main interest of the volume continues to lie in the titles to lands.

The Text has been prepared by Mr. K. H. Ledward, an Assistant Keeper in this Department, who has also compiled the Index.
