Cumberland. Condition: the prior and convent and vicar to obey the arbitrament of John Batemanson doctor of laws or in his absence of John Metcalfe bachelor in laws on behalf of the prior and convent and of John Underwode bachelor in laws on behalf of the vicar in all disputes touching the said vicarage a principio mundi to date, provided that the arbiters pronounce their award (ferant laudum et arbitrium) before All Saints next and take a corporal oath before Thomas archbishop of York to give it indifferently, or, failing this, that they nominate an umpire (impar) who shall pronounce his award before Pentecost following, which both parties shall obey. If no award is pronounced by that date, all actions etc. shall stand in their former state.
