Aug. 6.
Westminster.
To Ralph Ramesey, esquire of Simon de Burley constable of Wyndesore castle. Order to restore to Roger Foucaut dean of St. Emilion, lately arrested in that city and after imprisoned in the said castle, or to his attorney, all goods, raiment, books and harness of his, received by indenture made with John de Bosham late one of the sheriffs of London; as by special command of the king he is now set free. By C.
The like to John de Bosham and Thomas Cornewaleys late sheriffs of London.
Aug. 20.
Westminster.
To the keeper or farmer of the manor of Eltham for the time being. Order to pay to Baldwin de Bereford the king's knight 3d. a day and the arrears since 30 July last, on which day the king granted him for life the office of parker of Eltham parks, taking 3d. a day for his wages, as did John de Beverley deceased who held the office by grant of the late king.

Westminster.
To the keeper or farmer of the manor of Haveryng for the time being. Order to pay to Robert Tyle 2d. a day so long as he shall hold the office of keeper of that manor and of the gates, doors, windows, tables, benches, trestles, locks, keys and divers other needful things therein, and the arrears since 19 June last, on which date the king appointed him keeper by indenture between John Blake the king's clerk, being clerk of his works, and the said Robert, to mend the said gates etc. and make other repairs needed from time to time, taking 2d. a day for his wages.

To John de Cavendissh and his fellows, justices appointed to hold pleas before the king. Order by writ of nisi prius to cause an inquisition which remains to be taken between the king and the abbot of St. Mary York concerning agistments of cattle etc. to be taken before one of the king's justices.
Aug. 18.
Westminster.
To Robert de Loxle escheator in Surrey and Sussex. Order to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the manors of Colle co. Surrey and Codelawe co. Sussex, saving dower to Eleanor who was wife of John de Arundell knight, and delivering up any issues thereof taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that at his death the said John held the said manors of others than the king.
June 24.

To Alan de Buxhull constable of the Tower of London, and to his lieutenant. Order concerning John de Kirkeby and John Algore (as above, p. 389).

To the mayor and bailiffs of Suthampton. Order, upon petition of the merchants of a ship called 'la Jhesu Cryst' of the port of Portugal lately taken at sea by certain the king's lieges and brought to Suthampton, and after delivered to them as true friends of the king with goods and merchandise therein, to compel the master thereof and every of the said merchants according to the quantity and value of his own goods to bear the loss of wax, 'cordewan' and other merchandise then taken out of the same by Thomas de Percy, and the charge of the freight thereof, the said ship and other the costs of their suit for the same; as lately by advice of the council order was made that they should make no claim for the wax etc. aforesaid.

To Philip de Courtenay admiral of the fleet to the westward, or to his lieutenant in the ports of Plymmuth, Dertemuth and Fowy, to all mayors and bailiffs of those towns, and to the keepers of the passage there. Writ of aid, directing them under pain of forfeiture to cause Richard Seymor knight to have for his money shipping (eskippamentum) sufficient for the passage of himself, his men and horses to Calais in which of those ports he shall please; as he set out thither with a certain number of men at arms and archers in the last expedition, but falling sick unto death, for that he might not then pass in person, sent over the men of his retinue; and now he is recovered, and is ready to sail in person with certain men at arms and archers to reinforce the army over sea, and is now in Devon upon his passage.

To Roger Coghull the king's esquire keeper of Ingelwode forest, or to his representative. Order to suffer William de Raghton to have the herbage of Thoghthwayt laund within the forest, meddling no further therewith, although on 7 April last the king granted the said Roger the keeping of his close of Thoghthwayt therein from Easter last for life, rendering to farm at the exchequer 100s. a year and bearing all charges; as on 6 February 41 Edward III the late king by letters patent, confirmed by the king, granted the herbage aforesaid to the said William for life, as Richard de Whitfeld and John de Raghton successively held the same, rendering 22s. 4d. a year at the exchequer by the hands of the sheriff. To the bailiff, farmer or other minister of the king's manor of Byflet for the time being. Order to pay to William Ferrour the king's serjeant 10 marks a year and the arrears since 22 March 1 Richard II, on which date the king confirmed his letters patent of 25 February 51 Edward III, granting the said William for good service to the king's father and to the king 10 marks a year for life of the issues and profits of that manor.

To the mayor and burgesses of Dovorre, and to the keepers of the passage in that port. Order as before, upon petition of the mayor and constables and all the commonalty of the staple of Calais, to cease from wrongs, extortions and oppressions against them, suffering every one of them in their own ships, vessels or balingers or in those of others to pass at pleasure, levying or demanding nought for their passage unless of their own will they pass in ships etc. of Dovorre, or if there be any cause wherefore they ought not so to do, order to be at the next parliament to certify the same; as the petitioners have shewn the king how that they are much troubled by the mayor etc of Dovorre, for that whensoever one of them would pass thence to Calais in a ship of his own or of others made ready at the cost of the said commonalty, the mayor etc. of Dovorre suffer them not so to pass, but unlawfully compel them to pass for their freight in ships of Dovorre, or to pay 40d. for every passenger as if they did so, and when one of them finds in the port of Dovorre a ship of Calais passing thither, and will pass therein, by their own authority extort from him 6d. before his passage. Proviso at their peril that none other than those of the said staple shall there pass save by means of the mayor etc. of Dovorre as used to be done.
