November 1383

Nov. 15.
Westminster.
To the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer. Writ of supersedeas omnino in favour of William Ythoun and Seman Cartewryght late chamberlains of Beverley, and order to proceed against Richard de Midelton, Richard de Bostan, Robert Burthan, Thomas White, Thomas Preston and William de Bery for 100 marks; as Richard de Midelton and William de Bery lately acknowledged in chancery a writing indented containing that the said chamberlains delivered 100 marks granted to the king by the commonalty of Beverley to them and the said Richard de Bostan and the others who were coming to a parliament upon business of the said commonalty, and that the receivers thereof undertook to pay the same to the king, as may appear by an enrolment in chancery of the said writing and acknowledgment sent to the exchequer among the estreats of 5 Richard II; and now by complaint of the said chamberlains it is shewn that the treasurer and barons are taking proceedings against them and the said receivers, purposing to charge them all therewith, although Richard de Midelton and William de Bery who made the said acknowledgment are sufficient to answer in full for the said sum, wherefore the chamberlains have petitioned the king to save them harmless as there is no fault in them; and it is witnessed by credible persons that Richard de Midelton and William de Bery are sufficient as aforesaid, wherefore it seems to the king that the said chamberlains should be excused.
