the said Roger, William or John Haghe being one, to make inquisition
by men of Lincolnshire concerning all damages, grievances, oppressions,
extortions, excesses, duresses etc. committed and attempted against the
dean and chapter of St. Mary Lincoln contrary to the liberties, privileges
and jurisdictions to them granted by the king's forefathers, by them
enjoyed by custom of old time and otherwise, and concerning the
withdrawal and disturbance of rents and of their rights, liberties etc.
whatsoever. Writ of supersedeas until the quinzaine of Michaelmas
next; as the king has true information by credible report that if
further action should be taken touching the premises ruin to the
burgesses and other lieges of the city of Lincoln would ensue, and
other hurt, discord and disadvantage in divers parts of that county
would arise, it is feared; and on behalf of the burgesses and lieges
offer is made to the king that they are ready from time to time upon
warning received to make answer before the king and council to the
dean and chapter and others whatsoever who will make complaint
or prosecute; and the king's will is that in the mean time the matter
shall be heard before the council when time permits, and justice shall

sealed with the seal appointed for the purpose; covenants (as above,
p. 91), and covenant that if the subsidy be further let to farm, the said
lessee shall have the preference for the sum that others will give.
