Thomas de Swynburne knight to the king. Recognisance for 200 marks, to be levied etc. in Essex.
Defeasance thereof, unless the award of the council be that the said Thomas shall before Midsummer pay the 100 marks recovered of Robert Talkan for slaying Thomas Freselle of Scotland contrary to the truce between the king and the Scots. French.

John Seynt John knight and John de Humbleton esquire. Indenture of defeasance of the foregoing recognisance, upon condition that a rent charge of 10l. of the manor of Yenstowe granted by the said knight shall be truly paid at London at the New Temple church; and of the said rent charge whensoever that recognisance shall be put in execution. Dated 16 March 11 Richard II. French.

Indenture of further defeasance, dated 17 March 11 Richard II, reciting the grant of the rent (above mentioned), the (foregoing) recognisance and indenture of defeasance, upon condition that the said knight shall pay the said rent at Bristol in the church of St. Nicholas by the Bridge to John de Humbleton or his assigns having power under his seal to receive the same and give acquittance, when he shall be discharged of payment thereof at London. French.

Robert son of John de Grymesby knight (militis) to Simon de Grymesby and Robert de Garton clerk, their heirs and assigns. Charter with warranty of all his lands, rents and services in Waynflete, Wynthorp, Scrayfelde, Irby, Frisby, Braytoft and Enderby Malbush, the advowson of the church of that town, his lands etc. in Thorp by Waynflete, and the advowson of a chantry of three priests in Thorp and Croft by Waynflete, of whom two celebrate in the chapel of St. Elena in Croft and the third in Thorp; and of the reversion after his said father's death of all lands, rents and services in Immyngham which he holds by the courtesy of England of the heritage of Alice mother of Robert with reversion to the said Robert as her son and heir. Order to cause proclamation to be made of an order made in this parliament that, by reason of judgments rendered against them therein, all goods and chattels which were of Alexander archbishop of York, Robert de Veer duke of Ireland, Michael de la Pole earl of Suffolk, Robert Tresilian, Nicholas Brembre knights, John Blake and Thomas Uske on 17 November last and after, and of Robert Bealknap, John Holt, John Cary, William Burgh, Roger Fulthorp knights and John Lokton on 6 March last and after are forfeit to the king, that if any of them, namely the said archbishop, duke, earl, Robert Tresilian, Nicholas, John Blake and Thomas between 1 October 10 Richard II and 20 March last, the said Robert Bealknap, John Holt, John Cary and William between 1 August last and 6 March, and the said Roger and John Lokton between 25 August last and 6 March by fraud or collusion made any demise of goods and chattels by colour of gift, feigned sale or debt, the same shall likewise be forfeit, and that proclamation shall be made that any man who shall have such goods, or to whose hands they came shall within two months come and certify the council thereof, and that if he shall not do so, and shall be convicted, he shall be bound to render to the king such concealed goods or the price thereof and their value besides, and shall be imprisoned for one year; and order to certify in chancery the date or dates of such proclamation.
The like to singular the sheriffs throughout England, to John king of Castille and Leon duke of Lancastre or his chancellor in the duchy, and to John bishop of Durham or his chancellor in the bishopric.

Roger de Northwode knight to Sir Arnald Savage knight and to his heirs. Indenture of confirmation for the service of ½d. only of his estate in divers lands in Iwade, Middelton and Halghesto (Halghestoun) by him now held by the service of rendering to Dame Joan de Northwode mother of the said Roger, tenant for life of the manor of Northwodechestovers with reversion to the said Roger and his heirs, 21s. 3½d. of rent and a rent of 3 cocks and 29 hens and doing suit at her court of the said manor every three weeks, the reversion of his rent and services pertaining to the said Roger and his heirs as parcel of that manor; and remission of the residue of the services aforesaid. Roger de Northwode knight to Sir Arnald Savage knight, his heirs and assigns. Quitclaim with warranty of the manor of Shorne in his possession, the reversion whereof among other reversions the said Roger lately granted to William Pyghtesle vicar of Thornham (now deceased), William de Makenade and William Suttone, Christopher de Shukkeburgh and Agnes his wife being thereof tenants in dower of the said Agnes by endowment of her husband Sir Roger de Northwode grandfather of the said Roger; reciting that on 26 March 10 Richard II the said Christopher attorned tenant to William Makenade and William Suttone, that they by their several deeds granted the said reversion to the said Roger the grandson, his heirs and assigns, that he having had like attornment gave the same to Sir Arnald, his heirs and assigns, and that in his presence the said Christopher has attorned tenant to Sir Arnald by delivery of 12d. Dated 12 February 11 Richard II.

Memorandum of a judgment in chancery for removal of the king's hand, and livery to William Briene of the manor of Shokerwyk and 10l. of rent in Batheneston co. Somerset, and that he should be amerced in 40s., which he has paid to John de Ravenser clerk of the hanaper; as it was found by divers inquisitions, taken by Richard Virgo and Richard Micheldevere late escheators, that Philip Briene knight at his death held the same in fee tail of others than the king by gift of Guy de Briene knight his father to him and the heirs of his body, with remainder to the said William and the heirs male of his body, and that the said Philip died without issue; but in suing the said manor and rent out of the king's hand a certain person on behalf of the said William produced in chancery a crafty and false writing to deceive the court, and the said William gave testimony that it was true; and he after produced another writing concerning the entail, which was true and free from suspicion.

Writ of supersedeas omnino in respect of any process against Kinard de la Bere and Walter Devereux, by reason of the king's late commission to them and others to make inquisition in Herefordshire what evildoers and breakers of the peace slew John Kynges at Whiteborne, how and at whose procurement, and who harboured them, and order to release any distress made upon them; as that commission was not delivered to either of them, nor by them received for execution, nor did they meddle therein, as they have made oath in chancery; but order to proceed against others who did meddle as aforesaid.

Memorandum of defeasance, upon condition that the said Thomas shall appear in the Common Bench and plead on the first day that certain writs there pending at suit of John de Falwesle knight concerning the wardship of the land and heirs of William Yve of Sandewich are returnable, and shall forthwith give up the said heirs unmarried, namely Constance, Margaret and Agnes, in case the said John shall recover the wardship by judgment there rendered.

Order, for particular causes shewn by the commons in this parliament against the bishop of Cicestre, on sight etc. to cause proclamation to be made on the king's behalf forbidding under pain of forfeiture any man of whatsoever estate or condition, under name or colour of gift, sale, grant, promise, deposit, loan, contract, agreement or otherwise, secretly or openly to receive, eloign or meddle with farms, rents, goods, chattels or other moveables of the bishop, or to him belonging or pertaining, and ordering all who now have any such goods etc. under the same pain to safe keep them, certifying the king and council thereof in the quinzaine of Easter next. Order, upon petition of Thomas de Wodestoke duke of Gloucestre, Henry earl of Derby, Richard earl of Arundell, Thomas earl of Warrewyk and Thomas earl of Notyngham, who have before the king and council appealed Alexander archbishop of York, Robert de Veer duke of Ireland, Michael de la Pole earl of Suffolk, Robert Tresilian and Nicholas Brembre knights of treasons affecting the king and the estate of the realm, offering to prosecute the appeal in the parliament next to be holden at Westminster on the morrow of the Purification next, to cause proclamation to be made directing the archbishop and the others under pain of forfeiture to be there in person at the parliament day appointed in order to answer touching that appeal, and that no man under the same pain shall do them hurt in body or goods to prevent them from appearing therein, and order for particular causes laid before the council to put all their goods and chattels found in the sheriff's bailiwick in safe keeping until further order of the king and council, nought being taken away, and nevertheless to arrest the said duke, earl and Robert, who are fugitives it is said, and to cause them to come before the king and council in the said parliament, certifying with all speed what they shall do at this command and how, where such goods shall be, their description, price and value. Writ of supersedeas omnino in respect of any process against Richard de Norton of Worcester, John Dumbleton and John Ewyas by reason of the king's commission of 3 August 2 Richard II to them and others to arrest Robert Hayle 'bocher,' lately outlawed at suit of John Bedwardyn clerk in a plea of debt, to bring him to the city of London, and to deliver him to the custody of the warden of the Flete prison until further order for his deliverance, and also to make inquisition in Worcestershire concerning his lands and the yearly value thereof, his goods and chattels and the price, value and description thereof, and to seize his goods and the issues of his lands into the king's hand, causing answer to be made to the king for the same; and order to release any distress made for that cause, proceeding nevertheless against others who meddled therein; as that commission was not delivered to the said Richard, John and John, nor did they receive it for execution, or meddle therein, as they have made oath in chancery.
The like in favour of Thomas de Brugge then escheator in Worcestershire.

Writ of supersedeas, and order by mainprise of Thomas Fleccher, Stephen Fleccher, Thomas Coton 'bower' and John Smyth of London to set free Roger Shirreve clerk, if taken at suit of Roger Asshebornham, John Olyver of Croydoun the younger and Robert Eustace chaplain for conspiracy at Kestane, and forgery of a charter after the death of Thomas de Sancto Albano of Stoppesle, dated in the life time of the deceased, which contained a gift by him to the said Roger and his heirs of a messuage, 200 acres of land, 3 roods of meadows, 40 acres of pasture, 20 acres of wood and 16s. 6d. of rent in Kestane, Doune and Hele, thereby scheming to dispossess the plaintiffs of the premises, which they acquired of Robert Albone, son of William Albone of Stoppesle and cousin and heir of the said Thomas, and for intrusion thereupon until Robert Albone entered the premises upon him, after which the said Roger by conspiracy arraigned an assize of novel disseisin against the plaintiffs before Robert Bealknap and Walter Clopton late justices of assize in Kent, and then, fearing the same would pass against him for that many true men were empanelled, contrary to the ordinance arraigned another assize of novel disseisin before David Haunemere and the said Walter, then justices of assize, against the plaintiffs and others.
Memorandum that on 13 March 11 Richard II William bishop of Winchester, appearing in chancery at Westminster, averred that he and his predecessors time out of mind were seised of the advowson of the hospital of St. John Baptist Portesmuth in right of their church of St. Swithun Winchester, that King Edward I in his court sued for the manor of Menes and the advowsons of Menestoke church and of the said hospital against John then bishop of Winchester, and after by letters patent, dated Karnarvan 5 June 12 Edward I, made a grant and quitclaim thereof to the said bishop and his successors, confirmed by letters patent of the now king dated Westminster 20 August 4 Richard II, produced in chancery by the bishop, and that nevertheless John Stacy clerk of the king's household, averring the hospital to be in the king's gift which it was not, lately obtained of the king his collation to the same, and a writ for his induction addressed to the sheriff of Suthampton, praying a cause against the said John, who was there present, and that he should give up the letters of induction to be cancelled; and the said John could not deny that the bishops were seised as aforesaid, and collated to the hospital at every vacancy, causing their clerks to be inducted, and he acknowledged that at the time of his collation Nicholas de Wykeham clerk had possession thereof by collation of the bishop, and yet has, and he gave up his said letters of collation, which by judgment of the court are cancelled.
John de Beauchamp of Holt knight to the king, his heirs and assigns. Charter of a messuage and two shops with a quay etc. in the parish of St. Benet 'atte Wodewharf' in Baynardescastell ward London which the king had by gift of Thomas de Newenham parson of Newebury and Henry de Newenham citizen of London, between a tenement of the prior and convent of St. Bartholomew Smythefelde on the west and a tenement late of Master William Herlonde 'carpenter' on the east extending from 'Thamestrete' to the river Thames; also of parcel of a piece of ground sometime void containing (continentis) 104 feet in length and 4 feet 2 inches in breadth which the king had by gift of the said prior and convent, adjoining the said messuage etc. on the west side, the king having by letters patent given all the premises to the said John, his heirs and assigns. Witnesses: William archbishop of Canterbury, Robert bishop of London, Thomas bishop of Ely, John bishop of Hereford, Richard earl of Arundell, John de Waltham archdeacon of Richemonde, Richard Lescrope knight.
