Westminster.
To the bailiffs of the city of Winchester for the time being. Order, by advice of Henry Yevele and William Wynforde master masons and Hugh Herlande master carpenter of the king's works throughout the realm, and by control of the constable of Winchester castle for the time being, to pay 40 marks a year for seven years from Easter next upon the repair of houses, walls, towers, gates and bridges of the said castle; as by letters patent of 3 March 13 Richard II of the fee farm of the city the king assigned 40 marks a year for seven years following to be laid out upon such repairs by advice and control aforesaid; and for that that term is ended, and for good ruling and maintenance of the castle and the houses etc. aforesaid, which because of age and weakness need great repair, he has granted a like sum payable of the said fee farm for seven years now to come.
