Westminster.
To the sheriff of Bukingham. Order to give notice to H. bishop of Lincoln to be in chancery in the octaves of the Purification next, which day the king has given to Richard Symeoun of Ovynge, John Barker and Peter Barker, both of Whitechurche co. Bukingham and of his diocese, in order to shew cause wherefore there ought not to be a stay pending their appeal, and writ of supersedeas in favour of the appellants by mainprise of William Dauvers vicar of Myntmore, Simon Berarde, John Warde and John More of Bukinghamshire; as at the request of the bishop, signifying that by his authority as ordinary they were excommunicated for contumacy, not willing to be justified by censure of the church, the king ordered the sheriff to justify the said Richard, John Barker and Peter by their bodies until they should content holy church for their contempt and wrongdoing; and now they have appealed to the papal see and for protection of the court of Canterbury, and the said vicar and the others have mainperned in chancery to have them there at the day named.
