Writ of supersedeas until the quinzaine of St. John Baptist next in respect of their demand upon John Hadle, John Fresshe and William More late mayors of London and escheators therein to answer or account for the issues of a messuage called the 'Iren on the Hope' in the parish of St. Mary Magdalene in 'Oldefisshstrete' London; as a plea is pending in chancery between the king and Robert Berden citizen and fishmonger whether the same ought to pertain to the king or to him.
John king of Castille and Lyoun and duke of Lancastre, John bishop of Lincoln, Henry bishop of Wircestre, Robert de Aston, John Dipres knights and Nicholas Careu the elder, feoffees of certain manors etc. in Kent and other counties purchased by the late king in demesne and in reversion to the intent that they shall fulfil his declaration to found the new abbey of St. Mary Graces by the Tower of London, of an abbot and monks of the Cistercian order, and to endow them with lands etc. to the amount of 1,000 marks a year, to the abbot and convent aforesaid and to their successors. Indenture, reciting that in part of their endowment the said king did by letters patent give them lands and rents in the city of London and elsewhere to the value of 205 marks a year, and granting them for forty years from Easter last, to the intent that within that term the same shall be granted in mortmain to them and their successors, the manors and advowsons of Leybourne and Gravesende, the manors of Lenches and Wateryngbury co. Kent, the manor of Rotherhithe co. Surrey and the messuage thereby late of Walter Forster, all which the grantors have of the said king's feoffment, their stock thereupon quick and dead as appears by other indentures, the yearly value thereof being 74l. 6s. 8d., also the reversions of the manor of Gore in Kent after the death of Robert Aston, of the manors of Boventracy, Haldesworthy, Blakedoun, Longacre, Ludeforde, Staunton, Tackebere and Northlieu with the advowsons of churches and other appurtenances in Devon, Somerset and Cornwall after the death of James de Audelee knight, and of the manor of Gomeshille with the advowsons etc. in Surrey after the death of Thomas de Stanes, with lordships, warrens, liberties etc., rendering to the grantors or to their attorney 100 marks a year during the first three years, and afterwards one red rose a year at Midsummer for all services, saving that the lessees shall make no waste nor sale in the woods or buildings of the premises, but it shall be lawful to sell seasonable wood, and to take in the woods 'housbote,' 'herybote' and 'heybote' as need shall be, and saving power to distrain if during the first three years the rent shall be forty days in arrear. Order to cause proclamation to be made of an ordinance made in the last parliament, that all merchants native and alien who will export any wool, hides and woolfells shall within half a year after the same is customed and cocketed bring to the king's bullion in the Tower of London in his own name one ounce of gold of foreign coin for every sack of wool, every half last of hides and every 240 fells, and if they bring it not shall pay 13s. 4d. for every sarpler of wool, every last of hides and every 480 fells over and above the customs, subsidies etc. thereupon due, and that before exporting the same from any port in England they shall find security to the customers there for so doing.

Writ of supersedeas until further order, for particular causes nearly moving the king and council, in respect of the further execution of the king's late letters patent whereby, upon petition of John Waghen of Beverley, shewing that 850½ nobles 22d. of English money were to him owing from Pelegrin Florensoun merchant and burgess of Leyd' and Dederic Jacobsoun of Delfe in Holand, the king commanded all mayors, sheriffs and other ministers of the king on this side the sea within liberties and without in name of marque and reprisal from time to time to arrest all ships of Seland and Holand then in any ports and places of England or thereafter coming thither, the masters, seamen, goods, merchandise and property therein found, and to put them in safe and honest keeping.

Order to remove and erase the name of William Ledes of Rypoun from the estreats of chancery for 19 Richard II, inserting that of Robert Smelt of Topclyf instead, or to suffer that to be done by one of the chancery clerks, writ of supersedeas in respect of their demand against the said William to answer or account for the alnage and subsidy upon cloth for sale in the Nortrithing in Yorkshire and for the forfeiture thereof since 4 November 19 Richard II, and order to discharge him, proceeding nevertheless against the said Robert; as in the estreats aforesaid, which the king has sent into the exchequer, it is contained that by letters patent of the said date the king appointed the said William by himself and his deputies to perform the office of alnager in the Nortrithing, the city of York excepted, to collect the moneys there arising of the said alnage and subsidy and of the said forfeiture, and to answer for the same; but because he has made oath in chancery that he never meddled in that office, the king has discharged him thereof, causing his name to be erased by one of the chancery clerks, and the name of the said Robert to be inserted in the commission.

Writ of supersedeas in respect of their demand upon Joan who was wife and is executrix of John Sandes late sheriff of Suthampton, or upon other his executors, to answer for any of the goods in a carrack of Genoa (Janua), Peter Dencu master or owner (patronus), and order to discharge them and the said sheriff's heirs; as upon petition of John Glaumvile merchant of London, shewing that Stephen Maruf' merchant of Genoa bought wool of divers lieges in England, that at the said Stephen's instance he became his surety, giving bonds to the vendors for the price thereof, and must needs pay of his own money 240l. for the said Stephen, 2 marks excepted, and that scheming to defraud him thereof the said Stephen without paying the debt secretly withdrew to foreign parts, and being informed that the said carrack touched at the port of Suthampton laded with divers goods and merchandise of the said Stephen, among other goods, the king ordered the said sheriff to cause the said Peter straightway to come before him, and compel him to make oath to unlade and deliver to the sheriff all such goods of the said Stephen or to him pertaining, safe keeping the same until further order; but Walter Sandes and Thomas Sandes, executors of the sheriff, have made oath in chancery that that writ was never delivered to him, neither did he receive any such goods.

Northumberland which is a cell of that abbey, and order to discharge them; as by letters patent of 23 February 13 Richard II the king granted them in aid of the repair of the priory, namely of a great tower and gate and great part of the walls towards the sea which were accidentally fallen to the ground, 500l. payable by assignment within two years, and on 16 May following the prior and convent received as a prest at the receipt of the exchequer by the hands of William Whathamstede canon their attorney 200l. in part payment; and the earl of Northumberland has borne witness in chancery by word of mouth that they have laid out that sum upon the repairs aforesaid.

Order, upon petition of merchants native and alien touching at that port, to suffer all who shall bring any wool etc. thither until Christmas next to weigh the wool in the town of Lewes by ministers of the staple there, and to ship there wool so weighed, hides and woolfells and, after payment of customs, subsidies etc. thereupon due, to take them to the staple of Calais and nowhere else, any ordinances, proclamations or commands to the contrary notwithstanding; as their petition shews that they suffer hurt by taking the same from Lewes to the staple of Cicestre, because of the dangers and peril of the roads and the cost they must needs bear, and the king's will is to make provision for their advantage and peace, and for more speedy weighing and shipment of wool etc.
