Mandate at the petition of Llewelyn ap Morgan ap Ieu(a)n ap Mereditth, layman, and Eva, Werglli (i.e. verch Llewelyn) Vag(a)n, of his diocese, containing that they lately, not in ignorance that Eva's father had been godfather to Llewelyn at his baptism, whence an impediment of spiritual relationship, contracted marriage per verba legitime de presenti and consummated it, and have had offspring, to dispense them to remain in the said marriage, decreeing legitimate the said and future offspring thereof. To the bishop of Mondonnedo (Mindonien.), and the officials of Avignon and Uzès (Uticen.). Mandate, in virtue of the letters ‘Ad perp. rei mem. A pacis auctore’ of the present pope, dated at Spoleto the year of the Incarnation 1449, 14 Kal. July (18 June) anno 3, providing for the restitution of their benefices to deprived adherents of the council of Basel-Lausanne, to restore Lewis, cardinal priest of St. Cecilia's, commonly called the cardinal of Arles, to that church and to the Benedictine monastery of Montmajour (Montismaioris) [-lez-Arles] in the diocese of Arles (of which he had been deprived); which said letters were a consequence of the peace brought about in the Church by Eugenius IV, on the intervention of the orators of the king of the French and England and René, king of Sicily, and the dauphin of Vienne, eldest son of the king of the French. To Odo Otehegan, clerk, of the diocese of Derry (Deren.). Reservation to the pope's gift, for collation to him (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, after which he had himself promoted to minor orders and obtained the rectory of Kyllecimechan in the diocese of Derry, which he afterwards resigned) of a benefice with or without cure, not being a major or principal dignity, value not exceeding 25 marks if with cure or 18 if without, in the gift of the bishops and the deans and chapters etc. of Derry and Connor; with dispensation to receive such benefice and to resign it, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, notwithstanding his said illegitimacy, etc. Vite. etc.
Concurrent mandate to the archbishop of Taranto, the abbot of St. Mary's Macosquin (de Claro fonte) and the prior of St. Mary's, Dungenibyn (sic), in the diocese of Derry. Hodie specialem. F. ii. is headed ‘de diversis primo’, and in another hand ‘De diversis anno primo domini N(icolay) pape v.’ The text comprises ff. 2–349.
  • 2. Briefly mentioned, thus ‘Clemens episcopus servus servorum dei, Ad perpetuam rei memoriam. Dudum felicis recordationis Johannes papa xxii. predecessor noster etc.’ The letters of pope Clement are given in full on f. 238, with their date, Avignon Kal. July, anno 8 [1349].
