To the abbot of Holy Trinity, Tuam, and Thomas Obrayn and Nimeas Oruary, canons of Tuam. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Thomas Ogillarayn, priest, of the diocese of Tuam, that William Russel, perpetual vicar of Du(n)mor in the said diocese, a public simoniac, has publicly committed perjury and dilapidated many of the goods of the vicarage) if and after Thomas (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, notwithstanding his illegitimacy as the son of a priest and a married woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure) accuses William before the above three, to summon William, and if they find the above to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the vicarage, of the patronage of laymen and value not exceeding 8 marks sterling. to Thomas; whether it become void by such deprivation, or be void because the said William, having had canonical collation, held possession for more than two years without having himself ordained priest, or be void in any other way. Mandate (the pope having been informed by David Crane of Kilscowran, priest, of the diocese of Ferns, that William Baret, rector of St. Bridget's in the same diocese, has several times (pluries) carnally known a certain spiritual daughter of his (fn. 2), dilapidated many of the goods of the said church, and committed perjury and other excesses and crimes [not here named]) if and after David accuses William before the above three, etc., to summon William, and if they find the above to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the rectory, value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, to David. To Maurice Oconchuyr, Rory Ohagra and Thomas Macabrechim, canons of Achonry (Akaden.). Mandate (the pope having been informed by Malachy Ocluman, priest, of the diocese of Achonry, that formerly, on the voidance of the perpetual vicarage of Killluothieand (rectius Killluothreand) by the resignation of Maurice Ycluman to James, bishop of Achonry, John Ocluman, priest, of the said diocese, made a bargain with the said bishop, namely that (fn. 3) the bishop should collate and assign the vicarage, thus void, to John, and that John should give and pay to the bishop a horse and a sum of money, after which the bishop made by his ordinary authority collation and provision to John, who under pretext thereof obtained and still detains possession, and gave and paid the said horse and money to the bishop, thereby committing simony and incurring the sentences of excommunication etc. promulgated against simoniacs) if and after Malachy, who was lately received by the said ordinary authority as a canon of Achonry, accuses John, who is unfit and insufficient to rule and hold the vicarage, before the above three, to summon John, and if they find the above or one of them sufficient for the purpose to be true, to declare the said collation and provision null, and remove John, and in that event to collate and assign the vicarage, value not exceeding 6 marks sterling, to Malachy. To Gilbert Smerles, M.A. Collation and provision to him—who was lately dispensed notwithstanding his illegitimacy as the son of unmarried parents, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and subsequently (after the present pope ordered by other letters provision to be made to him of one or two benefices, void or to become void, even if one had cure or were a dignity etc., not being a major dignity in a cathedral or principal in a collegiate church, in the collation etc. of the bishop and the dean and chapter etc. of Glasgow and of the abbot and convent of the Benedictine monastery of Kelsow in the diocese of St. Andrews) to receive and retain such benefice or benefices—of the perpetual vicarage of Inch in the diocese of Aberdeen, value not exceeding 9l. sterling, void at the apostolic see, and therefore reserved, by the death there of William Liel. As soon as he obtains the vicarage the said letters shall be null and void as far only as regards a benefice with cure or a dignity etc. Litterarum sciencia, vite etc.

To the dean of Ardagh and the priors of Saints Island (Omnium Sanctorum de Insula) and Deare (rectius Dearc), in the diocese of Ardagh. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Thady Magruairc, priest, of the diocese of Meath. that Maurice Macgahygan [‘Macaedagain’ in Cal. Lett. VIII, p. 422], perpetual vicar of Lochluaha in the diocese of Clonmacnoise (Cluanen.), is a public simoniac and dilapidator of the goods of the vicarage. Seeing also that Hillarius Omalechni, canon of Clonmacnoise (Cluacen., sic), by virtue of letters directed to him by Eugenius IV [ibid, IX, p. 553, with the spelling ‘Hylarius Omalcaclaynd’ and ‘Macaedagan’], deprived and removed the said Maurice, upon Thady's accusation, after the death of the said pope, and collated and assigned the vicarage to Thady, from whose sentence Maurice appealed to the apostolic see, but did not prosecute the appeal within the due time, the pope hereby orders the above three, if and after Thady (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, notwithstanding his illegitimacy as the son of unmarried parents. to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure; and who from fear of Maurice's power cannot safely meet him in the city or diocese of Clonmacnoise) accuses Maurice before the above three, to summon Maurice, and if they find the above to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the vicarage, which is of the patronage of laymen and has cure to which, whilst it was void as above, Thady was presented by the patron Plonget (fn. 6), and whose value does not exceed 24 marks sterling to Thady. Mandate to collate and assign to Thomas Oseanean alias Scolan, dean of Limerick, bachelor of canon law, who has studied civil law for more than four years at Oxford in the diocese of Lincoln, and was the official of the late Richard archbishop of Cashel, the perpetual vicarage of Donachmor in the diocese of Limerick, value not exceeding 2 marks sterling, void by the death of Eugenius Macrath; notwithstanding that he holds the said deanery, a major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 44 marks sterling, and a canonry of Cork and the prebend of Kylynly and a canonry of Cloyne and the prebend of Kylcridan and Imfrif, value not exceeding 4 marks sterling. He is hereby dispensed to hold the vicarage and deanery together for life, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and hold instead two other incompatible benefices, provided that they be not two parish churches or perpetual vicarages, notwithstanding the pope's late ordinance to the contrary [see above, p. 5] etc. Litterarum sciencia, vite etc. (T. and F. de Laude. | T. xxxx. To the prior of St. Thomas the Martyr's, Buttevant (prope Buthoniam), in the diocese of Cloyne (Clonen.). Mandate (the pope having been informed by Richard Ronan, priest, of the diocese of Limerick, that Maurice Brenach, perpetual vicar of Corcorcheyt in that diocese, neglecting the cure of souls of the parishioners, has allowed several of them, who were grievously sick, to die without confession and the ministration of other divine sacraments, and children to die without baptism; and that he, who is a priest, is a dilapidator of the goods of the said church, is irregular, defamed, a perjurer and is accused of very many other crimes [not here expressed]) (fn. 7) if and after Richard, who from fear of Maurice's power has no hope of obtaining justice in the city and diocese of Limerick) accuses Maurice before the above prior, to summon Maurice, and if he find the above or one of them sufficient for the purpose to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, value not exceeding 10 marks sterling, to Richard. Anno 2 (corrected in pencil to ‘3’). Lib. 1, and the usual serial number 453A (which would have been more correctly 454A). A flyleaf has, in different contemporary hands, ‘Primus de beneficiis vacantibus anno tertio domini nostri domini Nicolaipape V’ and ‘R(ecipe) G.’ below which, in a third contemporary hand, is:—ponantur nomina infrascripta in libro de beneficiis vacaturis anno primo
