Decree, ordinance and grant, at the recent petition of the prior and convent of the Benedictine monastery of SS. Mary and Augustine, Daventre, in the diocese of Lincoln (containing that its fruits are so much reduced by misfortunes and the neglect of certain former priors that they are insufficient for the maintenance of the prior and convent and the repair of the buildings, which are greatly in need thereof, and that without a remedy it is feared that the monastery will fall into great ruin and miserable desolation), at the said petition and that of Henry, king of England, that in future the parish churches of Holy Cross Daventre, All Saints Norton. St. Mary Staverton and All Saints West Haddon, in the said diocese, appropriated to the said priory, shall, on their next becoming void, be served, no longer as higherto by perpetual vicars, secular priests, but by monks of the priory or other secular priests appointed and removed at the pleasure of the prior. The prior and convent are to bear the burdens of the said churches and episcopal burdens and moreover, as they have offered, pay yearly by way of compensation 2s. to the bishop and 2s. to the archdeacon of Northampton on account of each church. To Michael, archbishop of Dublin. Indult, at his recent petition (containing that the fruits etc. of his archiepiscopal mensa, of which two or almost three parts were alienated by the late Richard, his predecessor, have been so much diminished, both by the negligence of the said Richard and other predecessors and by the wars and raids with which the castles, lands etc. of the said church have for a space of twelve miles of those parts been utterly desolated, (fn. 3) that he does not receive therefrom more than 300l. sterling a year; that lately, when crossing the sea, after his consecration in the city of London, he lost in a shipwreck his gold, silver, jewels and valuables and other property; (fn. 4) and that he is therefore so reduced to poverty that he cannot decently keep up his archbishop's dignity), that the ordinaries of the cities, dioceses and provinces of Dublin [and] Armagh may grant to him, to hold for life in commendam, one or two monasteries, and as many or three or more regular benefices of any order, or even secular benefices, with or without cure, the value of all not to exceed 200l. sterling, etc. Exigit tue devotionis. Grant, at his recent petition (containing that in the year of Jubilee he made up his mind, but not under the form of a vow, to visit the shrine of the Apostles Peter and Paul, and told his purpose to several persons, but that he was so much occupied with arduous and important business in the service of king Henry that he could not go to Rome without the indignation of the said king, wherefore the king has petitioned the pope to make him a sharer in the indulgences of the said year of Jubilee), to choose a confessor who may, after hearing his confession, absolve him, once, from all his sins etc., even in cases reserved to the apostolic see, enjoining penance, and commute his vows; with further grant that he shall, being contrite and having confessed, after visiting on three successive days the churches of St. Paul, London, and St. Peter's, Westminster, saying on each day seven times the Lord's prayer and Hail Mary, and giving on the said days 10d. sterling to the poor, gain the plenary indulgence of the Jubilee, as if he had visited Rome and the appointed basilicas and churches thereof.
