Relaxation, to be valid for one year only, at the recent petition of Richard Morray and Patrick Hwter, (fn. 3) laymen, of the dioceses of St. Andrews and Glasgow (containing that they formerly for more than six years fought in Turkey for the defence of the catholic faith against the Turks, exposing their bodies to bloodshed, and have consumed all their goods in the said defence, so that they have become so poor that they cannot return to their native parts without the alms of the faithful) of a year and forty days of enjoined penance to all penitents who make them gifts for the said purpose, as often as they do so. To Andrew bishop of Glasgow. Grant, as below. On 19 Kal. Sept. anno 1 (14 Aug. 1459) the pope granted him motu proprio a faculty freely to make, as long as he was bishop of Glasgow, collation and provision of all benefices with or without cure, secular or regular of any orders, belonging to his collation, provision, presentation, institution etc., which should become void in the months of February, April, June, August, October and December, regardless of papal reservations, even special, and expectative graces and letters, past and future, as is more fully contained in the pope's letters thereupon. The pope now grants, at the bishop's petition, that the said letters and faculty shall hold good from the date thereof, also as regards other benefices in his diocese with and without cure belonging to the presentation of any patrons, clerks, secular or regular of any orders, and to his own collation and institution, which shall in future become void in the same months, to which benefices the pope extends the said letters as if special and express mention of such patrons had been made therein. Dec. anno 1 (24 Nov. 1458) the pope motu proprio ordered provision to be made of one or two benefices, even if one had cure or were a rural deanery or archpriestship, or a dignity or personatus or canonry and prebend in a cathedral church, or each of them (quodlibet eorum) a canonry and prebend, administration or office in a collegiate church, and such dignity etc. were elective, etc., in the collation etc. of the bishops and the deans etc. and chapters of Glasgow and Dunkeld) that in the obtaining of such benefices he may in future enjoy all the same prerogatives of exemption and priorities as are enjoyed by divers continual commensal members of the pope's household, but not those described in a certain book of the chancery.
