To the bishop of St. Andrews. Mandate to make to David Bane, a monk of the Cistercian monastery of CouparAngus in the diocese of St. Andrews, who is of lawful age and is a bachelor of theology, provision of the said monastery, value not exceeding 60l. sterling (1l. of which sterlings in the realm of Scotland is worth 2½ ducats, and has been so wont to be reckoned in the apostolic Camera), (fn. 2) void, and therefore reserved, by the resignation to the pope of abbot John Hudton, made by his proctor David Kay, rector of Edvy in the said diocese, a doctor of decrees. In the event of the said bishop's making such provision, he is to bless David, or cause him to be blessed by any catholic bishop; and the pope's will is that he or such bishop is to receive from David the usual oath of fealty according to the form enclosed, and send it to the pope as soon as possible by David's letters patent sealed with David's seal, by his own envoy. To the same. Faculty to him, to whom the pope has recently made provision of the above church, and who has the tonsure only, to receive from any catholic bishop or bishops on any Sundays and feast-days, even extra tempora, but successively, the minor orders and the orders of subdeacon, deacon and priest, and to receive consecration from one of them or any other catholic bishop of his choice, assisted by two or three other catholic bishops; and for such bishop to consecrate him, after having first received from him the usual oath of fealty according to the form appended. If, without the said oath having been received from him by the said bishop, such bishop presume to consecrate him, and he to be consecrated, such bishop shall be eo ipso suspended from the execution of the pontifical office, and both he and Henry from the administration of both the spirituals and the temporals of their churches. The pope wills further that Henry shall, as soon as possible, send to the pope by his own envoy the from of oath taken by him, by his letters patent sealed with his seal. Mandate to make to Maurice Oneill, a canon of the Augustinian monastery of St. John Baptist de Diseart’ in the diocese of Connor (who lately, notwithstanding his illegitimacy as the son of unmarried parents, entered the said monastery and made his profession, and also had himself promoted to all even holy orders) provision of that monastery, value not exceeding 16 marks sterling, void by the death of abbot Mogonius (sic) Ogillamyr; whether it be void as stated, or by the death of Bernard Oneill or Thomas Macgillyeman or Odo Oneill, canons of the said order, or by the deprivation and removal made by papal authority of Nemeas Oguym, a canon of the same order, or by the resignation of the said Magonius or Bernard or Thomas or Odo or Nemeas, or in any other way. Maurice is hereby dispensed to be appointed to the monastery, and rule it in spirituals and temporals, notwithstanding the said defect etc. Solicite consideracionis. (P. and G. To the archdeacon and the treasurer of Cloyne (Clonen.), and Dermit Oleyn, a canon of the same. Mandate to cause William Osega, priest, of the diocese of Ardfert (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, on account of illegitimacy as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all holy even priest's orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and who afterwards had himself so promoted) to be received as a canon of the Augustinian monastery of St. Mary, Inysfachlyn, in the said diocese, in which there is not a certain number of canons, and confer on him the regular habit, and moreover to receive his regular profession. Mandate (the pope having been informed by the above William Osega that John Olydan, prior of the above monastery of St. Mary, wont to be governed by a prior, is a notorious fornicator and concubinary, and has dilapidated etc. the goods of the monastery and converted them to the evil (pravos) uses of his concubine and children (filiorum), still living, and has otherwise uselessly consumed them, and, putting off the due and decent habit wont to be worn by the prior and canons, has worn another not decent habit, and, not residing in the monastery, has neglected the cure of its canons and the rule and administration of its goods, has incurred perjury and committed other excesses and crimes [nor here expressed], about which he is openly defamed in those parts) if and after William (whom the pope has this day ordered to be received etc. as in the preceding, and who from fear of John's power has no hope of obtaining justice in the city and diocese of Ardfert) accuses John before the above three, to summon John and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove John, and in that event to collate and assign the priorship, elective and a conventual dignity, dependent on no other monastery or religious place, and wont to be held by its canons, with cure and value not exceeding 16 marks sterling, to William, whom the pope hereby dispenses to receive and retain it, notwithstanding the said defect etc. Religionis zelus, vite etc. (P. and G.
