To the abbot of the monastery of the Apostles Peter and Paul, Raythtuaydh, in the diocese of Ardfert. Mandate as below. A canonry of Ardfert and the prebend of Fyennd therein having become void, and reserved to Nicholas V. by his promotion of the late Maurice Stak, bishop of Ardfert, to that church [see Cal. Papal Letters, Vol. X, p. 567], and by that bishop's consecration administered to him without the Roman court by order and during the life of the said pope, who, however, died without having disposed of the said canonry and prebend, Calixtus III decreed that all benefices reserved by Nicholas V and not disposed of at his death remained reserved, but himself died without having disposed of the said canonry and prebend. The present pope therefore orders the above abbot to collate and assign to Gerald Fitzmoren (recte Fitzmores), clerk, of the diocese of Ardfert (who alleges that Cornel Odomimayn (? recte Odonnmayn) alias Otralmiayn, priest, of the said diocese, has by his own temerity and with no [canonical] title detained possession for more than a year but less than two years; and who was lately dispensed by papal authority, on account of illegitimacy as the son of unmarried parents, to be promoted to all even holy orders and receive and retain a benefice even with cure, and afterwards to receive and retain any benefices with or without cure, of any number and kind, compatible with the foresaid benefice, even if canonries and prebends, dignities etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased) the said canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 3 marks sterling, summoning and removing the said Cornelius; notwithstanding that the present pope recently [above, p. 15] ordered provision to be made to Gerald of the deanery of the said church of Ardfert, a major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 20 marks sterling, then to become void in a certain way [not here expressed]. To the bishops of Spoleto, St. Andrews and Aberdeen. Decree etc. as below. It was set forth to Calixtus III by John Octerborii (fn. 2) (rectius Otterborn), rector of the parish church of Liberton in the diocese of Glasgow, (fn. 3) licentiate in decrees, that on the voidance, by the death of John Schenis, of a canonry and the prebend of Eynstrin (rectius Eyrskin) and the office of the principal sacristship (fn. 4) of the church of Glasgow (in which there is a certain other office of the minor sacristship (fn. 5) ), the vicar-general in spirituals of the bishop of Glasgow (who was then in remote parts), in virtue of special power which he alleged that he had from the said bishop, made collation and provision of the said canonry and prebend and office of the principal sacristship to the said John, who in virtue thereof obtained possession. The said John adding that he doubted whether the collation and provision held good, the said pope granted, under date 6 Id. May anno 3 (10 May, 1457), a mandate to certain judges (not here named) to collate and assign to him the said canonry and prebend and office, which is without cure and non-elective, their value not exceeding 10l. sterling, as being still void as above. In order that the said grant may not remain without effect, because the said pope died before the letters were drawn up, the pope hereby decrees that the present letters shall suffice as proof thereof, and that the said grant shall hold good from the said date thereof, as if the letters had been drawn up, and moreover orders the above three to collate and assign the said canonry and prebend and office to John, and to induct him. Mandate to reserve to his gift, and upon their becoming void to collate and assign to John Selly, rector of the parish church of Rederfeld in his diocese, bachelor in decrees, a canonry of Cloyne and the prebend of Cuyl et Brechmuy therein, value not exceeding 4 marks sterling, to become void by the present pope's recent promotion of John Stak, elect of Ardfert, to that church [see above, p. 14] and the consecration which is to be administered to him; notwithstanding that he holds the said rectory, value not exceeding 40 marks sterling, and was lately dispensed by papal authority to receive any two benefices with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if dignities etc., or parish churches or their perpetual vicarages, and to retain them for seven years if parish churches or their perpetual vicarages, or for life if others, and to resign them. simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased. To the abbot of St. Mary's de Kyrieleyson in the diocese of Ardfert, the treasurer of Ardfert and Thady Odii, a canon of the same. Decree etc. as below. Calixtus III, upon learning that a canonry of Limerick and the prebend of Ardhane (fn. 6) therein had become void by the death of John Porsel, although Thomas Artwr, clerk, of Limerick, had detained them for more than three years but less than four, by his own temerity and with no title, and was still detaining them, granted under date 15 Kal. July anno 4 (17 June, 1458) a mandate to certain judges (not here named) to summon Thomas and others concerned, and to collate and assign the said canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, to Dermit Macmahuna, clerk, of the diocese of Limerick, who alleged that he was of noble birth by both parents, Thomas being removed; whether they were void as above, or by the death of William Rossel or the resignation of the said John or William, or in any other way, and notwithstanding that Dermit had, in course of litigation in Ireland (in partibus) about the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Kylkyde in the said diocese, of which he was in possession, value not exceeding 10 marks sterling, sustained a definitive sentence against him, from which he had appealed to the apostolic see, the commission of which appeal he had obtained by the said pope to certain judges (not here named), and notwithstanding that the said pope had granted him provision of the rectory without cure of the parish church in ecclesiastical fee of Drumlyll in the diocese of Killaloe (Laonien.), value not exceeding 2 marks sterling. In order that the said grant may not remain without effect, because the said pope died before the letters were drawn up, the pope hereby decrees that it shall hold good from the said date, as if the letters had been drawn up, and that these presents shall suffice as proof thereof, and moreover orders the above three, inasmuch as Dermit from fear of the power of Thomas cannot safely meet him in the city or diocese of Limerick, to summon Thomas and others concerned, and to collate and assign the said canonry and prebend to Dermit, removing Thomas. Mandate to reserve to his gift, and upon voidance to collate and assign, after he has been made a clerk, to John Roche, scholar, of the diocese of Cloyne, who is illegitimate, being the son of an unmarried clerk, a noble, and an unmarried woman, a canonry of Cloyne and the prebend of Cuylcallynn et Brechmyd, value not exceeding 6 marks sterling, to become void by the present pope's recent promotion of John elect of Ardfert to that church and the consecration which is to be administered to him. To Thomas Forsich (recte Forsith), perpetual vicar of the parish church of Monkton in the diocese of Glasgow. Reservation etc. as below. The pope has this day ordered collation and provision to be made to John de Balfour, a canon of Aberdeen, of a canonry of Dunkeld and the prebend of Menmuir therein (value not here stated), on their becoming void by the pope's recent promotion of Ninian Spot, elect of Whiteherne (Candide case) to that church, and by the consecration which is to be administered to him, the pope requiring John, upon his obtaining possession thereof, to resign his canonry of Ross and the prebend of Logy therein, as he himself offered. The pope therefore reserves to his gift, for collation to the said Thomas, the said canonry and prebend of Ross, value not exceeding 13l. sterling; notwithstanding that he holds the said perpetual vicarage, value not exceeding 9l. sterling, and that he lately got provision made to him of a canonry and prebend of Glasgow, then void, value not exceeding 40l. sterling, of which he is in possession, and about which he is litigating in the apostolic palace. Mandate to collate and assign to David Odonochu, dean of the church of Kilmacduagh (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, on account of illegitimacy as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all even holy orders and receive and retain a benefice even with cure, and afterwards to receive and retain the deanery of the said church) a canonry of Kilmacduagh and the prebend of Kymorcam (fn. 8) therein, value not exceeding 2 marks sterling, void by the resignation of David Valentes [sic] to Denis bishop of Kilmacduagh, if they find the resignation lawful; whether they be void as stated, or by the death of Nicholas Ydubgilla, or in any other way, and notwithstanding that David holds the said deanery, a major non-elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 10 marks sterling.
