Footnotes

  • 1. On the back of the volume is the usual modern description in Latin: 1465. An. ii. Paulus II, and on a modern end-paper is Mgr. Wenzel's ‘An. 3 to. 12.’ There is no contemporary end-paper. On the bottom edge of the volume is the usual contemporary description, hardly legible, viz.:Primus de beneficiis [vacantibus], diversis [formis], regularibus, prebendis [vacantibus], provisionibus [prelatorum], exhibitis, et de plenaria [remissione] anno secundo domini nostri [domini] Pauli pape ii. This is confirmed by the various headings of the quaternions of the volume, viz. on f. xxx.: ‘De benefitiis vacantibus anno secundo,’ which was doubtless also on f. i., now disappeared; on f. 30: ‘De beneficiis vacantibus anno secundo; on f. 79: ‘Sequitur de diversis [formis anno] secundo’; on f. 167: ‘De dignitatibus vacantibus [anno] secundo Pauli’; on f. 180: ‘De exhibitis [anno] 2o’; on f. 220: ‘Sequitur de regularibus [anno]’ secundo’; on f. 273: ‘Sequitur de prebendis vacantibus [anno] secundo’; on f. 295: ’Sequitur de provisionibus [anno] secundo’; on f. 347: ‘De plenaria [remissione].’ The text consists of ff. [ii.]–cccl. + 351–393 (a modern pagination in pencil).
  • 2. Datum Rome apud Sanctum Marcum ….sexagesimo sexto (recte quinto) … anno secundo.
  • 3. On f. 123r. is an attempt to register the same bull, but after the proem the scribe made a false start, viz.: ‘Hinc est quod nos tuis in hac parte supplicationibus inclinati, fraternitati tue per apostolica scripta,’ which would require to go on mandamus quatenus etc., i.e. the words of a mandate, instead of ‘Hinc estfraternitati tue, de quibusuis dignitatibus ….’
  • 4. His noble birth is not mentioned in the text.
  • 5. in facultate legum in aliquo loco in quo studium vigeat generale.
  • 6. The Register has ‘Millesimosexagesimo secundo [sic] … anno secundo.’
  • 7. Apparently a superscript ‘t’ is intended to correct ‘Kylmyel’ to ‘Kylmytel.’
