Footnotes

  • 1. On the back of the volume is the usual modern description in Italian:Paolo ii. 1469–70. Anno 6. Lib. 1, and on a modern end-paper is Mgr. Wenzel's ‘An. 6. to. 12.’ A contemporary end-paper contains the contemporary description: Primus de regularibus et de devotionis [litteris, i.e. de plenaria remissione] anno vio domini nostri domini Pauli pape ii, the order ‘R(ecipe) L., P.,’ and a couple of unimportant contemporary scribbles, but not the usual ‘Rubricatus est’ certificate. A similar contemporary description, ‘Primus de regularibus …,’ occurs also, as usual, on the bottom edge of the volume. There are ff. i.—cccxxxv. of text + a number of folios which are without the contemporary foliation, and have been erroneously numbered in pencil 236–249, followed by a blank leaf.
  • 2. ‘Johannes’ is added in the margin by ‘P.’
  • 3. On f. 39r is a cancelled beginning of this same bull.
  • 4. Apparently an attempt to improve on ‘Faryngdon.’
  • 5. ‘Cistercien.,’ cancelled and over-written ‘P.,’ ‘Cicestren.’ being substituted in the margin by ‘P.’
  • 6. Here in both cases ‘Cistercien.’ is left uncorrected.
  • 7. As already noted above, p. 737, note, the original foliation ends with f. cccxxxv., and is followed by a modern foliation in pencil, viz. 236–249, in error for 336–349.
