To the archdeacon of Killala (Aladen.), and William Bared and William Occarind (or Ocearind), canons of the same. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Niallanus Odubda, a canon of Killala, that Cornelius Obuachilid, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Castleconor (de Castro Conchur) in the diocese of Killala, an open and notorious fornicator, has committed simony and has violated an interdict lately laid by authority of delegates of the apostolic see in certain places of those parts, to the shame of the clerical order) if and after Nia[l]lanus, who says he is of noble birth by both parents, accuses Cornelius before the above three, to summon Cornelius and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing, or one of them enough for the purpose, to be true, to deprive and remove Cornelius, and in that event to collate and assign the vicarage, value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, to Niallanus; notwithstanding that he has been received by authority of the ordinary as a canon of Killala. The pope hereby dispenses Niallanus, who is only a clerk, not to be obliged, whilst studying canon or civil law in a university, or a nonuniversity studium, (fn. 2) to have himself promoted to deacon's or priest's orders for seven years, provided that within a year from obtaining the vicarage he be ordained subdeacon.Nobilitas generis, vite etc. (P. and G. To the dean and the archdeacon of Derry (Deren.) and John Okerualan, a canon of the same. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Nellanus Mattuarta, clerk, of the diocese of Derry, that Lewis (Ludovicus) Macgillacalma, rector of the parish church of Keppach in the said diocese, has dilapidated etc. and consumed for evil purposes many goods of the said rectory, openly kept a certain woman as his concubine and committed perjury, and has neglected, as he still does, to reside in person, about which and divers other crimes he is much defamed in those parts) if and after Nellanus, who was lately made a clerk, notwithstanding his illegitimacy as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, accuses Lewis before the above three, to summon Lewis and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing, or one of them enough for the purpose to be true, to deprive and remove Lewis, and in that event to collate and assign the rectory, with cure and value not exceeding 6 marks sterling, to Nellanus; whether it become void by such deprivation and removal, or be void by the non-promotion of the said Lewis to the priesthood within the lawful time, or by his resignation, or in any other way. The pope hereby dispenses Nellanus to receive and retain the rectory, notwithstanding the said defect etc., and also not to be bound for three years to have himself, whilst studying canon or civil law in a university etc. as in the preceding, mutatis mutandis. Mandate to collate and assign to Henry Brenach, priest, of the diocese of Killala, the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Adruguyl (fn. 3) in the said diocese, value not exceeding 5½ marks sterling, so long void by the resignation to Bernard, bishop of Killala, of Maurice Omurchuan, who held canonically united thereto for his life the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Orind, (fn. 3) that by the Lateran statutes its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although William Macabreim, priest, of the diocese of Tuam and (et) Mayo, who is to be summoned and removed, has detained it, without any canonical title, for about a year after the said lapse; whether it be void as stated, or by the deprivation of David Oguare, or in any other way. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Donatus Ohogayn, scholar, of the diocese of Killaloe (Laonien.), that Matthew Ohurrhayly, rector of the parish church of Bale in Cayssleaynara in the said diocese, is an open fornicator, and that both he and Cornelius Omulluyn, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Teampallincalayth alias Calathconarrayn (fn. 4) in the diocese of Cashel, have dilapidated etc. and uselessly consumed the goods of the said rectory and vicarage, and have committed simony and perpetrated other crimes [not here expressed], to the shame of the clerical order) if Donatus (who is of a great race of nobles, is illegitimate, being the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, and has studied canon and civil law for some time, and who from fear of the power of Matthew and Cornelius cannot safely meet them in the city and dioceses of Killaloe and Cashel) will accuse them, after he has been made a clerk and has accused them, to summon Matthew and Cornelius, and if they find the foregoing, or one of them enough for the purpose to be true, to deprive and remove them, and in that event to collate and assign the rectory and vicarage, value not exceeding 10 and 6 marks sterling respectively, to Donatus; whether they become void by such deprivation and removal, or the rectory be void by the deaths of Cornelius Yhurrhayli or Cornelius Ymulleampuyll, or because John Ohogayn held it for more than a year without having himself ordained priest, and without dispensation, or the vicarage be void by the death of Donald Ythuythayg (sic), or whether they be void in any other way. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Dermit Ocontn (recte Oconcu), clerk, of the diocese of Ardfert, that Edmund Macclygeoyd, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Lyseltyn in the said diocese, has dilapidated etc. and consumed for evil purposes the goods etc. of the said vicarage, committed simony and perjury and openly kept a certain woman as his concubine, to the shame of the clerical order) if and after Dermit, who lately, notwithstanding his illegitimacy as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, was made a clerk, and who from fear of Edmund's power has no hope of obtaining justice in the city and diocese of Ardfert, accuses Edmund before the above three, to summon Edmund and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove Edmund, and in that event to collate and assign the vicarage, value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, to Dermit, if found fit. Confirmation, with exemplification, of:— the letters In hospitali nostro of Boniface VIII, addressed to the master and brethren of the pope's (nostri) hospital of the Holy Ghost in Sassia, Rome (Sancti Spiritus in Saxia de Urbe), and dated at Anagni, 5 Kal. Aug. anno 1 [28 July, 1295], in which pope Boniface, recalling, inter alia, its foundation by Innocent III, built at the church of St. Mary in Saxia, gives a list of its possessions, including ‘In Anglia ecclesiam omnium sanctorum de Writell’ cum capellis dependentibus ab eadem Londoniensis diocesis.’ The present letters begin Ad fut. rei mem.
