To John Chamber, sacrist of the church of Holy Trinity, Boysham, in the diocese of Chichester. Dispensation for him, who is a priest, to receive and retain for life together with the said sacristship, which is a non-principal non-elective dignity with cure, (fn. 3) any one other benefice, or without the said sacristship any two other benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if two parish churches of their perpetual vicarages, or chantries, or hospitals wont to be assigned to secular clerks as the title of a perpetual benefice, or major or principal dignities, etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, etc. Vite etc. (P. and Ja. To Nicholas, bishop of Hvar (Faren.), residing in the Roman court. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Andrew Caputii Rubei, layman, of the diocese of Magdeburg, and Veronica his wife, (fn. 4) contained that after the issue of the present pope's letters ‘Ad perp. rei mem. Cum in omnibus iudiciis’ [printed in Cocquelines, Bullarium Romanum, Vol. III, part iii (1743), p. 118] the wardens or chamberlains of the English hospice of St. Thomas de Urbe (fn. 5) let to them, and to the survivor of them, for a period of three years, renewable for further periods of three years, for their use and habitation, a certain house hard by the street called the ‘Via Armorum’ in the said city, at a yearly rent of 18 ducats, at the rate to the ducat of 72 bolognoni of the money usual in the said city, (fn. 6) the said rent to be paid, half at the beginning and half at the middle of each year. The pope therefore orders the above bishop to summon the said chamberlains and others concerned, and if he find the facts to be as stated, and the said lease to be to the manifest utility of the said hospice, to confirm the same. To John Peryson, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Tyryngton in the diocese of Norwich, bachelor in decrees. Indult to him (who at the time of his obtaining possession of the said vicarage took an oath of personal residence, in accordance with the constitutions of the legates Otto and Ottobon), not to be bound for seven years so to reside, whilst studying letters in an university, or engaged in the service of an ecclesiastical lord, and meanwhile to take the fruits etc., the said oath being hereby relaxed for the said period. He is to depute and pay a good and sufficient priest to exercise the cure of souls etc. Litterarum scientia, vite etc. |

To Stephen, archbishop of Milan, (fn. 7) residing in the Roman court. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Eugenius Yffahy, prior of the Augustinian priory of St. Catherine, Achdrum Omane, in the diocese of Clonfert, contained that, circumvented by the devil, and urged on by drunkenness and the heat of anger he lost his self-control, and after an exchange of hard words and blows he with one blow only of a sword hit a certain layman of the said diocese on the head and mortally wounded him, of which blow the said layman died, (fn. 8) Eugenius thereby contracting irregularity, etc. The said petition adding that he deeply regrets the death of the said layman, of which he was not guilty otherwise than as above, and that he believes he could not otherwise have escaped death, that he desires to pray for the soul of the deceased, and has come in person to the Roman court for absolution, etc., the pope hereby orders the above archbishop to absolve him, enjoining a salutary penance etc., dispense him on account of irregularity contracted, dispense him to minister in minor orders only and retain the said priory, which is conventual and has cure of souls, and rehabilitate him, provided that the said cure of souls be not neglected.Sedes apostolica pia mater. To William Eure, precentor of York, M.A. Dispensation for him (whom Nicholas V dispensed to receive and retain for life together with the parish church of Brompton in the diocese of York any benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if another parish church or its perpetual vicarage or a major or principal dignity etc. [and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased; see Cal. Pap. Lett., Vol. X, p. 53]; who is of knightly birth, and who resigned the said church of Brompton and holds in virtue of the said dispensation the said precentorship, a non-major non-elective dignity with cure, and the parish church of Wyrkyngton in Cowplande, in the same diocese), to receive and retain for life together with the said pre centorship and church (values not expressed) or, if he resign them, together with two other incompatible benefices, any third benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if a major or principal dignity, etc., and to resign it, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, etc., provided that he do not hold more than two parish churches or their perpetual vicarages, etc. Nobilitas generis, litterarum scientia, vite etc. (N. and A. de Cortesiis. | N. lx.
