To all Christ's faithful, etc. Relaxation in perpetuity (the pope having learned that the parish church of St. Mary, Kynsalbeg, in the diocese of Lismore, is notable amongst the parish churches of those parts, that therein there were many magnates (proceres) and noble parishioners, that it was decently and honorably built, and that it was well provided with paraments and other ornaments, but that on account of the lack of the said parishioners and the evil times, it has been so much brought to naught, and its roofs and other buildings so much in need of repair, that its fruits etc. are not sufficient therefor), of five years and five quarantines of enjoined penance to all who, being penitent and having confessed, visit the said church on the feasts of the Ascension of our Lord and the Assumption of the same Blessed Mary, and give alms for the repair of the said roofs etc. and of the said paraments and other ornaments. If like indulgence have been granted by the present pope, in perpetuity or for a time not yet elapsed, the present letters shall be null and void. Dum precelsa. To the abbot of the monastery of Holy Trinity, Ballintober (de Fonte Sancti Patritii), in the diocese of Tuam, and Thomas Joy and Dermit Oscara, canons of Tuam. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by William de Burgo, provost of Tuam, that Malachy Omullanayll, abbot of the monastery of St. Michael, Mayo (de Magio), O.S.A., in the diocese of Tuam, openly keeps a certain woman within the precincts of the said monastery as a concubine, and with her dilapidates the immoveable goods of the monastery, and consumes them for unlawful and depraved uses, and that on account of his evil rule etc. the said monastery is in no small degree collapsed. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said William, who alleges that he is of a race of nobles and earls, will accuse the said Malachy before them, to summon Malachy and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove Malachy, and in that event to grant the said monastery, value not exceeding 24 marks sterling, to the said William, to be held by him for life in commendam with the said provostship, the value of which does not exceed 3 marks sterling. Dispensation to him (who was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, after which he was promoted to all holy, even priest's orders and obtained the said church) to receive and retain for life together with the said church (value not expressed) any two other benefices, and if he resign that church any three other benefices, with or without cure, compatible with one another and with the said church, even if canonries and prebends, dignities (but not major or principal dignities), etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, etc. Vite etc. (N. and N. de Castello. | N. xx.
