To the abbot of St. Mary's Carrigillihy (de Fontevivo) in the diocese of Ross. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Dermit Ygyllagymayn, precentor (fn. 23) of Ross, contained that although there belong to the said church divers goods, tithes and obventions, which from of old have been appointed for its fabric and its repair and maintenance, nevertheless, through the neglect of those who have had the administration or keeping (fn. 24) of the said goods and the burden of the repair of the said fabric, the buildings of the said church, especially the roof, have fallen into such great ruin that when it rains the water comes through the roof and floods the church, except only the high altar, (fn. 25) and that divers holders of dignities in the said church and certain other persons of the diocese of Ross appropriate to themselves the said tithes and obventions, etc.; and added that if the administration of the said goods were committed to some upright, faithful and devout person, the said goods would be recovered from those who detain them, and that the said fabric could be repaired and maintained therewith, etc. The pope, therefore, at the petition of the said Dermit (who, as he alleges, intends to devote himself to the said repair), praying the pope to commit to him the administration of the said goods for life, and appoint him perpetual administrator thereof, the pope hereby orders the above abbot to summon the bishop and chapter of Ross and others concerned, and if he find the foregoing to be true, to commit the said administration to the said Dermit for life, with power to exact and recover the said goods from any detainers, and convert them to the use of the said fabric, and to appoint him perpetual administrator of them.
