Dispensation to receive and retain for life any benefice with or without cure wont to be governed by secular clerks, even if a parish church etc., and to resign it, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. To John Seymer alias Seymor alias Seymur, rector of the parish church of St. James the Apostle at the place called Garlykhithe, London, M.A. Dispensation, as below. The pope lately dispensed him to receive and retain for life with the parish church of St. Giles, Chalfehunte, in the diocese of Lincoln, any other benefice, or if he resigned that church any two other benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if two parish churches etc., or dignities etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased. The pope now dispenses him (who has resigned the said church of St. Giles, and holds in virtue of the said dispensation those of St. James the Apostle at the place called Garlykhithe and St. Peter within the town of Guynes and the marches of Calais, in the diocese of Térouane (Morinen.), canonically collated to him), to receive and retain for life with the said two churches, or with any two other benefices with cure or otherwise incompatible, any third benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if a parish church etc., or a dignity, etc., and to resign it, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, provided that of such three benefices not more than two be parish churches, etc. Litterarum etc. [2¼ pp.]

Dispensation to receive and retain for life any two benefices with or without cure wont to be held by secular clerks, even if parish churches, etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. 7 Kal. May. (25 April.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 63r.)	To the abbot of St. Mary's Cambuskynneth, in the diocese of St. Andrews. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of George Vaus, rector of the parish church of Lundef [sic] (fn. 2) in the diocese of Dunkeld, M.A., contained that recently, on the parish church of Vigtoune (fn. 3) in the diocese of Whiteherne (Candedicase [sic] (fn. 4) becoming void because Patrick Waus, [now] prior of the church of Whiteherne, O. Praem., made his profession as a canon thereof, the prior and chapter, in accordance with ancient custom, presented the said George to the present bishop of Whiteherne, who refused to institute him, from which refusal he has appealed to the apostolic see. The said petition adding that he doubts whether for certain reasons the said presentation holds good, the pope hereby orders the above abbot to collate and assign the said church of Vuigtoune [sic], value not exceeding 20l. sterling, to the said George, and dispenses him to retain for life therewith the said church of Lundif, or, without them, any two other benefices with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches, etc., or dignities, etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. Absolution (in order that the provision which the pope intends to make to him this day of the said monastery may take effect), from all sentences of excommunication, etc., which he may have incurred. Motu proprio dispensation to retain for life with the said church, provision of which the pope has made to him this day, even after his consecration and after he has obtained possession of the rule and administration, the canonry and prebend of Lincoln which he is holding, value not exceeding 120 gold florins of the Camera. 18 Kal. May. (14 April.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 172r.)	To William Elfynsten [sic], rector of the parish church of Kickmychel [sic] in the diocese of Glasgow, licentiate of decrees. Extension, as below. Lately, upon its being set forth by him to the pope that he had been dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all [even holy] orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and that he had in virtue thereof been promoted to all orders, and had obtained the parish church of Kukmychel [sic] in the diocese of Glasgow, the pope dispensed him, notwithstanding the said defect, to receive and retain therewith for five years any two other benefices, and without them any three other benefices, with cure or otherwise mutually incompatible, and to receive and retain for life any mutually compatible benefices with and without cure, of any number and kind, even if parish churches etc., dignities etc., provided that of such three benefices not more than two were parish churches etc., and not more than one a principal dignity, and to resign them all, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased. The pope now extends the said letters, so that such compatible benefices may include canonries and prebends, and such three incompatible benefices include dignities etc. in cathedral, even metropolitan [and collegiate] churches, even if such dignities be major in cathedral, even metropolitan, or principal in collegiate churches, and such dignities etc. be elective and have cure. Cancius, Cancianus, Cancianilla and Prothus, (fn. 6) of the town of Krainburg (opidi Kranburgie?) Prid. Kal. May. (30 April.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 210r.)	To the abbot of O'Dorney (de Kyryeleyson) and the prior of Ballinskelligs (sancti Michaelis de Ruthfe, recte de Rupe), in the diocese of Ardfert, and Thady Odych, a canon of Ardfert. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Brandan Fytzmoris, abbot of SS. Peter and Paul's, Raythuoygh, O.S.A., in the diocese of Ardfert, contained that although provision was made to him of the said monastery by papal authority, nevertheless after he had been abbot for some time the late E[d]mund Fitzmoris, dean of Ardfert, unduly molested him under pretext of certain papal letters which were surreptitious, and that John son of Neil (Niclani, recte Nielani) Fitzmoris and Richard son of Gerald (Geraldi) Fitzmoris, laymen, of the said diocese, made a de facto agreement between them by which they assigned part of the fruits etc. of the abbatial mensa to the said E[d]mund, to which the said abbot from reasonable fear (fn. 11) subsequently de facto consented. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three to summon the heirs of the said E[d]mund, and others concerned, hear both sides, and decide what is just, without appeal, causing their decision to be observed by ecclesiastical censure. Id. May. (15 May.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 215v.)	To the dean of Killaloe (Laonien.), and David Ocormachayn and Donatus Ograda, canons of the same. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of John Offrachi (?), perpetual vicar of the parish church of Kylmainduis in the diocese of Clonfert, contained that although he obtained the said vicarage by canonical collation and had held it in peace, and had been promoted to all holy orders as far as the diaconate inclusive, and had within the proper time asked to be promoted by the bishop of Clonfert to the order of priest, the said bishop refused to do so, but granted him letters of recommendation or letters dimissory, and that in virtue thereof he was diligent with the neighbouring bishops for the purpose of taking the said priesthood, but was prevented by a lawful impediment from doing so within the said time; that, when the said impediment ceased, he was promoted to the priesthood, but that the said bishop, disregarding the said diligence, (fn. 12) deprived him of the said vicarage and removed him, and made collation and provision of it to William Odymassay, priest, of the said diocese, who under pretext thereof has intruded himself. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three to summon the said William and others concerned, hear both sides etc., as in the preceding. Humilibus supplicum etc. [1½ pp.]

Indult for him (who by papal dispensation holds inter celera a canonry and prebend and the precentorship of Exeter, which is a non-major non-elective dignity, and the parish church of Vaggeburgh and the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Plymmouthe, in the diocese of Exeter), to take for life the fruits etc. of the said benefices, and of any others which he holds or shall hold, even if parish churches etc., whilst residing in one of them, or engaged in the service of an ecclesiastical prelate or in the study of letters in an university, and not to be bound to reside, and to rent etc. the said fruits etc. to any persons, even laymen, for periods of three years. 7 Kal. May. (25 April.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 295r.)	To Thomas Kanedy, a canon of the church called the chapel royal of St. Mary at St. Andrews, M.A. Indult, as below. Lately, upon the rectory of the parish church of Disart in the diocese of St. Andrews becoming void by the resignation to the pope of William Mowat, the pope made collation and provision thereof, previously reserved to the papal gift, to the said Thomas, reserving to the said William a yearly pension for life of 55 marks of the money of Scotland on the fruits etc. of the said rectory [see above, p. 563]. Afterwards, upon the said rectory becoming void by the resignation of the said Thomas to the pope, the pope erected it, likewise previously reserved, into a prebend of the church called the chapel royal of St. Mary at St. Andrews, and made collation thereof to the said Thomas, the pope's will being that he and his successors, holders of the said prebend, should pay 60 marks of the said money yearly for the increase of divine worship in the said churches. At the recent petition of the said Thomas, containing that it is very burdensome for him to pay the said pension and 60 marks, the pope hereby grants to him (who is a priest and who, as he alleges, holds no other benefice) indult that as long as the said pension shall last he shall pay only 20 of the said 60 marks, unless he obtain another benefice worth 55 marks. 13 Kal. June. (20 May.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 299r.)	Statute and ordinance, as below. The recent petition of Robert Rulloys, dean of the free chapel royal of St. Buryan the Virgin in Cornwall, in the diocese of Exeter, bachelor of decrees, contained that the said chapel is enriched with many and precious relics of saints and other sacred things, which as far as in him lies he tries to keep decently and honourably, and that from time to time on solemn and feast and other days the said relics and sacred things are exposed for the devotion of the people, and that many persons, both clerks and laymen, led by the desire of gain, take them away without leave of the said dean, running about the said diocese with them in indecent places, and begging alms and other oblations and converting them to their own damnable uses, to the grave offence of the Divine Majesty, the peril of their souls, and the evil example and scandal of very many. (fn. 13) The pope, therefore, hereby makes statute and ordinance that no one, whether clerk or layman, shall in future for ever dare to take away the said relies and sacred things and receive and detain the said alms and oblations, without [leave] of the said dean and of the dean for the time being, under pain of excommunication.
