To abbot Richard and the convent of St. Mary's, Osney (de Osneia), O.S.A., in the diocese of Lincoln. Indult for the said abbot (who, like his predecessors, has been wont by papal privilege to use the ring and pastoral staff), and for his successors, to use the mitre, gloves, sandals and other pontifical insignia, bless the vestments and palls of the said monastery, confer all minor orders on the novices and others of its subjects, and in the said monastery and its dependent priories and in parish and other churches belonging to the abbot and convent give solemn benediction after mass, vespers and matins, provided that no bishop or papal legate be present. Indult to him, who is a notary public by papal authority, and is a scribe of the episcopal court of Hereford, and keeper of its registers, and who was married to one wife, a virgin, and upon her death has contracted marriage per verba legitime de presenti with another woman, and has consummated it, to exercise for life the said offices of scribe and keeper and any other similar offices, etc. Sincere deuotionis affectus. Decree, as below. The pope lately (upon its being set forth to him on behalf of all the parishioners of the parish church of All Saints in the vill of Tylney, in the diocese of Norwich, that inasmuch as the said parish was very wide, extending to about four miles, it was difficult on account of very muddy and wet roads, especially in winter, for the bodies of deceased parishioners to be buried in the said church, and that it would be very convenient for them to be buried in the chapel of St. Laurence the Martyr in the said parish, in which a baptismal font has been erected by papal authority, and in which ecclesiastical sacraments are administered to the parishioners, and masses and other divine offices celebrated, even aloud, by fit priests appointed by the said parishioners (fn. 8) ), granted to the said parishioners that such bodies might be buried in the said chapel. At the recent petition of all the inhabitants of the place of Fenne End, situate within the said parish, containing that although it was expressed in the pope's said letters that the foregoing had been set forth to him on behalf of all the parishioners of the said church, nevertheless, it was not all the parishioners, but only the inhabitants of the said place in which the said chapel is situate who wished to obtain the said grant from the pope, wherefore the said inhabitants fear lest the said letters may be held surreptitious. The pope, therefore, hereby decrees that the said letters and grant shall hold good from the date of these presents, and that they shall apply only to the inhabitants of the said place, (fn. 9) as if the foregoing had been set forth to the pope on their behalf, and not on behalf of all the said parishioners, and as if the said letters had emanated on behalf of the said inhabitants only, and not on behalf of all the said parishioners.
