18 Kal. Jan.
(15 Dec.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 151r.)
To Malachy Oconceanayd (?), (fn. 9) Edmund de Stantona and John Ochamlis (?), (fn. 10) canons of Tuam. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that the perpetual vicarages of the parish churches of Chilloschobo and the Great Gate of Knockmoy (et de Porte [sic]Magne[sic] Collis Victorie), in the diocese of Tuam, have been so long void that their collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Donald Ockellyd, priest, has detained that of Chillose[h]obo for between ten and twelve years, and John Ockellyd, a monk, has detained that de Porte Magne for between twelve and fifteen years, without any title or right. At the recent petition of Thomas Macracubayn, priest, of the said diocese, containing that if the said vicarages were united their holder could better maintain himself, the pope hereby orders the above three to summon the said Donald and John, etc., and if they find the foregoing to be true, to unite the said vicarages, the value of each of which does not exceed 4 marks sterling, for the life of the said Thomas, and to collate and assign them to him, removing the said Donald and John. Ex apostolice nobis desuper iniuncte seruitutis officio. (At the end: Jo. xv. Nono Kal. Februarii anno undecimo. Gerona.) [2¼ pp.]

(13 Dec.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 221v.)
To the abbot of Holy Trinity, Ballintober (de Fonte sancti Patricii), in the diocese of Tuam, and the dean and the provost of Tuam. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that the perpetual vicarage of Balla in the diocese of Tuam is void because Richard Macostellua alias Ochelli held it for a year and more without having himself promoted to the priesthood, and without dispensation, although the said Richard has detained it for about other six months, without dispensation or fresh title. The pope. therefore, at the recent petition of Edmund de Stantona, rector of the rectory of the rural lands of Muynuala in the said diocese (containing that the fruits. etc., of the said rectory are insufficient for his maintenance, etc., and that if to the said rectory were united for his life the said vicarage, value 8 and 5 marks sterling, respectively, he could maintain himself etc. more easily, and alleging that they can be governed by one man), hereby orders the above three to summon the said Richard, etc., and if they find that the said vicarage is void as above, or by the deprivation of Ymarus Yconacayn, by a sentence made by papal authority, which became a res judicata, or in any other way, to unite it to the said rectory for the life of the said Edmund; notwithstanding that the holds a canonry of Tuam, of no value. Prouidentia sedis apostolice. [2¼ pp.]

Dignum etc. (At the end: N. xx. Kal. Februarii anno undecimo. Garilliati.) [12/3 pp.]

(7 Feb.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 237v.)
To the abbot of Holy Trinity, Ballintober (de Fonte sancti Patricii), in the diocese of Tuam, and Edmund de Stantona and Thomas de Angulo, canons of Tuam. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by William Othonis, clerk, of the diocese of Tuam, that Bernard Ohoyn, clerk, of the said diocese, made a bargain with the then vicar-general in spirituals of Donatus, archbishop of Tuam, to the effect that if the said vicar would make him collation and provision of the then void perpetual vicarage of the said [sic] church [? of Tuam], he would give him a certain quantity of money, after which the said vicar, alleging that he had special power from the said archbishop, made de facto collation and provision of the said vicarage to the said Bernard, who under pretext thereof obtained possession and still detains it, paying the said sum, and thereby incurring simony and the sentences of excommunication, etc., therefor. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said William will accuse the said Bernard before them, to summon him, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to declare the said collation and provision null and void, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, value 3 marks sterling, to the said William, removing the said Bernard, etc. Vite etc. (At the end: Jo. xii. Pridie Idus Februarii anno undecimo. Gerona.) [2¾ pp.]

Mandate to collate and assign to Maurice Macchonchuir, clerk, of the diocese of Ardfert (who was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of unmarried parents, to be promoted to all even holy orders and the priesthood, and hold a benefice even with cure) a canonry and the prebend of Disert alias Carglich in the church of Ardfert, value 3 marks sterling, so long void that their collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Thady Ohurayn, priest, of the diocese of Cloyne (Clonen.), who is to be summoned and removed, detains them without any title; notwithstanding that the pope lately ordered provision to be made to the said Maurice of the perpetual vicarage of Wocuayl in the said diocese, value 7 marks sterling. The pope hereby dispenses him to receive and retain the said canonry and prebend, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Vite etc. (At the end: N. Gratis pro deo. Sexto Non. Martii anno undecimo. The pope further grants that he may be blessed by any catholic bishop in communion with the apostolic see; without prejudice to the bishop of Ross, to whom the said monastery is by ordinary right subject.
