1482. 5 Kal. July. (27 June.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 4r.)	To the official of Limerick. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of William Nangill, clerk, of Limerick, contained that on the voidance in a certain way of a canonry of Limerick and the prebend of Kyllbekan therein, Thomas bishop of Limerick made collation and provision thereof to the said William, who now doubts whether they hold good. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above official to collate and assign to him the said canonry and prebend, value 8 marks sterling, still void as above. Dignum etc. [At the end: G. xv. Kal. 1481[–2]. Prid. Non. Jan. (4 Jan.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 18r.)	To the abbots of Paisley (de Passalito) and Corsragil, in the diocese of Glasgow, and the official of Glasgow. Mandate, as below. A canonry of Glasgow and the prebend of Cudros’ [sic] therein became void, and therefore reserved under the pope's late reservation of all benefices of papal chaplains, by the resignation of Andrew Liel, priest, of the diocese of Brechin, a papal chaplain (to whom provision thereof had been lately made by the pope's authority on their voidance by the promotion of Robert, [bishop] elect of Aberdeen, to that church, and by the lapse of the time for consecration) to Julian bishop of Glasgow, the said resignation having been made without the said Andrew's having had possession, so that the said canonry and prebend are still void. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three to collate and assign the said canonry and prebend, value 16l. sterling, to Adam Gordon, priest, of the diocese of Moray, who alleges that David Lithon, clerk, of the diocese of Aberdeen, has detained possession of them for between 6 months and a year, and still detains them, under pretext of a collation made to him thereof (as being void by the said resignation, and previously generally reserved to the pope), after and against the above reservation, without any other title or right; notwithstanding that the said Adam holds a canonry of Aberdeen and the prebend of Kynkel therein, value 80l, sterling. 1482. Prid. Kal. May. (30 April.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 106v.)	To John More, rector of the parish church of St. Edmund, King and Martyr. Stow, in the diocese of Woreester, doctor of decrees. Dispensation, as below. He was lately dispensed by papal authority to receive and retain for life any two benefices with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches, etc., and to resign them, (fn. 2) etc. The pope now dispenses him (who holds under the said dispensation the above parish church and that of St. Bartholomew the Apostle, Staunton’ by Hayles, in the diocese of Worcester), to receive and retain therewith for life, or with any two such other benefices with cure, etc., any third benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if a parish church, etc., and to resign it, etc., provided that of such three incompatible benefices not more than two be parish churches or perpetual vicarages. 4 Non. July. (4 July.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 110r.)	To John Barbur, rector of St. Ebbe's in Oxford, in the diocese of Lincoln, licentiate of canon law. Dispensation to him, who is also I.U.B., to receive and retain for life with the said church any other benefice, or without the said church any two other benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign, etc. Litterarum etc. [1²/3 pp.]
Prid. Kal. May. (30 April.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 132r.)	Union, as below. The recent petition of Donald Oculean, chancellor of Armagh, contained that on the voidance of the rectory of the parish church of Clo[n]feena, called a prebend, in the diocese of Armagh, by the deprivation of Thomas Marckanull (?) made by John Hedian, collector of the papal Camera in those parts, Octavianus [now] archbishop of Armagh, then administrator-perpetual of the church of Armagh, united it to the chancellorship. The said petition adding that there is a doubt about the force of the said union, the pope hereby unites the said rectory, value 16 marks sterling, to the said chancellorship in perpetuity. 1482. 6 Id. Aug. (8 Aug.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 160r.)	To Richard Harman, a monk of St. Albans, immediately subject to the Roman church, O.S.B., in the diocese of Lincoln. Dispensation, as below. The pope lately dispensed him to received and retain any benefice with or without cure wont to be held by secular clerks, even if a parish church, etc., and to resign it etc. [above, p. 790]. The pope now dispenses him, who holds under the said dispensation the perpetual vicarage of Byncham in the diocese of Norwich, to receive and retain in commendam for life with the said vicarage any other benefice with or without cure wont to be held by secular clerks, even if a parish church, etc., and to resign it, etc.; with further dispensation to wear an honest priest's robe (toga) of an honest colour over the habit worn by the monks of the said order. To Thomas Stowe, rector of the chapel called the chantry of St. Catherine situate in the cemetery of the church of St. Edmund in the city of Salisbury, in the diocese of Salisbury. (fn. 4) The like, notwithstanding that by the foundation of the said chapel the holder thereof can hold no other benefice, and that if such holder obtain another benefice the said chapel shall be ipso iure void, that if he be absent for one, two, or three weeks from the celebration of masses and other divine offices in the said chapel and church he shall be eo ipso deprived of a proportionate amount of his stipend or annual, viz. 100s., and that if he be so absent for a month, he shall be deprived of the said chapel, and that it shall be deemed to be void. Absolution from all sentences of excommunication, etc., in so far as regards the taking effect of the provision which the pope intends to make to him this day of the church of Moray. Non. May. (7 May.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 230v.)	To the bishops of Ely, Lincoln and Beirut (Bcricen.). Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Alice Crome, mulier, of the diocese of Norwich, contained that whereas John Willianson [sic], layman, of the said diocese, violently ravished her and compelled her by force and fear (fn. 5) to contract marriage with him per verba legitime de presenti, she, who thereafter never consented to such marriage by sign, word or deed, (fn. 6) left the said John as soon as she could, and had recourse to James bishop of Norwich, and requested him to summon the said John before him in the cause which she intended to bring against him in regard to the nullity of the said marriage, etc., and that, inasmuch as the said bishop refused to do so, she has appealed to the apostolic see, and has petitioned the pope to commit the cause of the said appeal, etc. and that of the principal matter, to some prelates of those parts. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three to summon the said John and others concerned, hear both sides, and, taking cognizance of the principal matter also, decide what is canonical, without appeal, causing their decision to be observed by ecclesiastical censure. To Odo Obethacan, a canon of the monastery of St. Mary, Greatconnell (beate Marie Connallis), wont to be governed by a prior, O.S.A., in the diocese of Kildare (Daren.). Dispensation to him, who has made his profession of the said order, to receive and retain any benefice with or without cure wont to be held by secular clerks or by canons of the said order, even if such secular benefice be a parish church, etc., and such regular benefice be a priory, etc., and to resign it, etc., notwithstanding his illegitimacy as the son of an abbot, professed of the Cistercian order, and an unmarried woman. 12 Kal. May. (20 April.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 259v.)	To Richard bishop of St. Asaph. Grant, as below. Lately the pope, after making him provision of the church of St. Asaph, granted him indult to retain therewith in commendam the monastery of St. Mary Magdalen, Shap, (fn. 7) O. Praem., in the diocese of Carlisle, and to wear over the habit of the said order a mantle of black or other obscure colour. The pope now grants him indult and dispensation that if he be elected or translated etc. to another cathedral, even a metropolitan church, he may retain therewith the said monastery and any other benefices which he shall then be holding, and also that he may say the canonical hours after the rite of the said order. Prid. Id. Aug. (12 Aug.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 282r.)	To Andrew, [bishop] elect of Moray. Provision to him, dean of Moray, in priest's orders, of that church, to which, void by the death of William, during whose lifetime it was specially reserved by the pope, the chapter has elected him, perhaps in ignorance of the said reservation, the said election being therefore invalid. Superne dispositionis arbitrio.
	Concurrent letters to the chapter, to the clergy and to the people of the city and diocese, and to the vassals of the church (fn. 8) —Hodie ecclesie vestre; to the archbishop of St. Andrews—Ad cumulum; and to James king of Scots—Gratie divine. Id. Aug. (13 Aug.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 283v.)	To the same. Faculty to be consecrated by any catholic bishop in communion with the apostolic see, assisted by two or three like bishops. The consecrator is to receive his oath of fealty according to the form enclosed, and the said Andrew is to send it to the pope by his (Andrew's) letter's patent, sealed with his (Andrew's) seal (fn. 9); without prejudice to the archbishop of St. Andrews.
