9 Kal. Oct. Avignon. (f. 21.)	To Robert de Valoynes. Provision of a canonry of York, with reservation of a prebend, notwithstanding that he is precentor of the same.

4 Kal. Oct. Avignon. (f. 26d.)	Appointment of William to the see of York, void by the death of William. The election having been made in his favour by seventeen out of twenty-three canons, the remaining six voting for other canons, it was presented to the pope, who, after examination of the opposition made by Master Pandulf de Sabellis, papal notary, canon of York, and George de Yporegia, canon of Southwell, admits it, consecrates the archbishop elect, and confers on him the pallium.
	Concurrent letters to the dean and chapter, to the clergy and to the people of the diocese, to vassals of the church, to the suffragans, and to the king.
Id. Nov. Avignon. (f. 65.)	To Master John de Ros, archdeacon of Salop, papal auditor. Indult to enjoy the fruits of his benefices, while non-resident, and engaged in the pope's service.

4 Id. Nov. Avignon. (f. 66.)	To Lewis, bishop elect of Durham, brother of Henry de Bellomonte, knight. Indult, at the king's request, to put off his consecration to the next Kalends of March, it having been already postponed on his petition until Michaelmas, when cardinals Gaucelin of SS. Marcellinus and Peter, and Luke of St. Mary's in Via Lata were to have been present; but when on his way to Durham he was seized, despoiled, and imprisoned.
5 Kal. Nov. Avignon. (f. 79.)	To Richard de Cestria, professor of canon law. Provision of a canonry of Ripon, with reservation of a prebend, notwithstanding that he has a canonry and prebend of York, and is rector of Campden, in the diocese of Worcester, and expects a canonry and prebend of St. John's, Chester.
	Concurrent mandate to the prior of [St.] Oswalds, and Masters John de Rosse, archdeacon of Salop, and Adam Murimouth, canon of Hereford.

Ibid. (f. 88d.)	To cardinals Gaucelin and Luke, papal nuncios. Mandate to proceed by summary method in the matter of difference between the archbishops of Canterbury and York, touching the cross carried before each. This, as a sign of primacy, is asserted to be the right of Canterbury in all England, and not of York, whence scandals and conflicts have arisen. Both parties are to be restrained, and witnesses examined, who are to give evidence without fear or favour.
Ibid. (f. 91.)	To William, archbishop of York. Faculty to reserve two benefices in his gift, value 25 marks, to two persons of his choice, and on their voidance to make provision of them to the same.
8 Kal. Nov. Avignon. (f. 93d.)	To cardinals Gaucelin and Luke, papal nuncios. Commission and mandate to make order touching the matter of difference between the Friars Preachers of Oxford and the chancellor and university of masters and scholars of the same. Friars Preachers and members of mendicant and other orders may be made masters in theology without being previously masters in arts.
17 Kal. Nov. Avignon. (f. 94.)	Constitution and confirmation of the composition made under order of Clement V. by John bishop of Llandaff, and Master Gilbert de Midelton, canon of London, Peter de Kenington and Thomas Everard, Friars Preachers, touching the dispute between that order and the chancellor and university of masters and scholars of Oxford, and, under papal mandate addressed to the bishops of London, Worcester, and Llandaff, finally agreed upon between Master Edmund de Mepham and Anthony de Beke, master in theology, proctors of the said chancellor and masters, of its one part, and by Luke de Wodeford, professor of theology, and Ralph de Seton, bachelor of theology, Friars Preachers, proctors of the prior and convent of that order at Oxford, of the other part. The admission of persons to degrees in arts and theology is regulated according to statutes of the university, and the Friars Preachers are to hold free schools in their house for lectures, disputations, and determinations.
Kal. Nov. Avignon. (f. 96.)	To cardinals Gaucelin and Luke, papal nuncios. Mandate to warn and induce the masters and scholars at Oxford so to administer the statute touching the admission of bachelors in theology to the degree of master that no prejudice or scandal shall be given.
3 Kal. Jan. Avignon. (f. 96d.)	To John, cardinal of St. Theodore's, who on 2 Id. Aug. had provision made to him of a canonry of York, with reservation of a prebend. Dispensation, at the request of his kinsman, Neapoleo, cardinal of St. Adrian's, to hold the same, as well as other benefices not in England.

1318. Kal. Jan. Avignon. (f. 109.)	To the archbishop of Canterbury, the bishop of Lincoln, and the abbot of Notelee, in the diocese of Lincoln. Mandate to cite William archbishop of York, his chapter, and all concerned in the cause between George de Salutiis, papal chaplain, rector of Wilmersle, canon and prebendary of Massam, and dean of York by papal provision, and archbishop William, who instituted Gilbert de Stapleton to the said church, and confirmed the election of Robert de Pikering, canon of York, to the said deanery, depriving George of the same, notwithstanding that the cause has been committed to papal auditors.

Mandate to cite William archbishop of York, and all concerned in the cause between Boniface de Salutiis, papal chaplain, rector of Camesal, Almember, and Penigston, held by dispensation of Clement V. and the said archbishop, who has deprived him of the same, and has given Camesal to Michael de Meldon, Almember to Henry de Leychestria, and Penyston to Richard de Walton.

Declaration that Henry de Stamford, monk of Durham, to whom papal reservation has been made of a benefice in the gift of the prior and convent of the same, shall not obtain it to the prejudice of the said cardinal, to whom reservation has been made of a benefice in the several dioceses of York and Canterbury.
Non. Feb. Avignon. (f. 115.)	To the same cardinal. Provision, in extension of a former provision of a canonry and prebend of Lincoln, of a prebend of York void by the consecration of archbishop William.

1317. 5 Kal. Jan. Avignon. (f. 124d.)	To John de Amelio. Provision of a canonry of Lichfield, with reservation of a prebend, notwithstanding that provision has been made to him of a benefice in the gift of the bishop of Agen.
	Concurrent mandate to Master Peter de Pratis, papal chaplain, and two others named.
1318. Id. Jan. Avignon. (f. 150.)	To the archbishop of York. Mandate to grant a dispensation to William Nicolai de Melton and Christiana his wife, who intermarried in ignorance that they were related in the fourth degree of kindred, to remain in the marriage they have contracted, declaring their past and future offspring legitimate.
1317. Kal. Dec. Avignon. (f. 158.)	To Lewis, bishop elect of Durham, brother of Henry de Bellomonte knight. Extension of the indult given at the king's request to put off his consecration until Michaelmas last, to six months from the present date; he and his brother having been seized and imprisoned. He may be consecrated by any prelates of his choice, and outside the province of York, without prejudice to the rights of that see.
1317. 14 Kal. Dec. Avignon. (f. 162.)	To Master John called ‘Brebanzon,’ S.T.P. of illegitimate birth, who has been dispensed by Clement V. so as to be ordained and hold the rectory of Wolstanton, value 20 marks. Dispensation to hold also a canonry and prebend of Chichester, value 12 marks.
1318. 6 Kal. Sept. Avignon. (f. 182d.)	To Nigel de Wavere, M.A. of the diocese of Cahors. Reservation of a benefice, value 20 marks, in the gift of the abbot and convent of Leicester, notwithstanding that he has 50s. a year in the house of Merton in Oxford until provision is made to him of a richer benefice.
	Concurrent mandate to the dean and treasurer of Lincoln, and Master John de Elam, canon of Hereford.
Kal. Mar. Avignon. (f. 188d.)	To cardinals Gaucelin and Luke. Mandate to warn and induce the dean and chapter of London to make over to Vitalis, cardinal of St. Martin's in Montibus, the manors of Bernes and Witham, held by Thomas, bishop of Worcester, when canon of London, and by his promotion in the patronage, for this turn, of the pope. The cardinal having sent his proctor to obtain possession of the manors, the dean and chapter obtained an order from the king prohibiting the publication of the papal grant, by which they incurred excommunication. If the dean and chapter refuse they are to be compelled by ecclesiastical censure. The pope has heard that the church of Rizelfeld, in the diocese of Chichester, void by the death of bishop Thomas, given by him to the cardinal, has been given by the king to someone else; the king is to be induced to let the cardinal have possession of it.
14 Kal. April. Avignon. (f. 195.)	Appointment of Nicholas, to be abbot of St. Thomas the Martyr's, near Dublin, the monastery being void by the resignation of Ralph, made by his proctor, John Mareschal, canon of the same. Benediction is given to the abbot by Arnald, bishop of Albano.
	Concurrent letters to the prior and chapter of the monastery, to vassals of the same, to the archbishop of Dublin, and to the king.
11 Kal. Feb. Avignon. (f. 212.)	To William, cardinal of St. Ciriac's. Provision of the rectory of Schorham, void by the resignation of his nephew, Vitalis de Testa.
	Concurrent mandate to the bishop of Winchester and two others named.
6 Kal. April. Avignon. (f. 244d.)	To Robert Barducii de Bardis. Provision, at the request of Lewis, count of Clermont, of a canonry of Glasgow, with reservation of a prebend.
	Concurrent mandate to the bishop of Dunblane, the abbot of Cupar, and another named.
Ibid. (f. 247d.)	To the same. Provision, at the request of the said Lewis, of the deanery of Glasgow, void by the resignation of Raymund de Monteboerii.

4 Id. May. Avignon. (f. 268d.)	To Thomas de Gynes, already dispensed on account of illegitimacy, rector of Wolfreslowe, in the diocese of Hereford, value 6l. Dispensation on resigning this to accept another benefice.
4 Kal. May. Avignon. (f. 275.)	To William de Bereforde, already dispensed on account of illegitimacy, rector of Morpahtric, in the diocese of Durham (Dublinen), situated, as he says, on the borders of Scotland, and in which, on account of warfare, he cannot reside. Dispensation, on resigning this, to accept another benefice.
10 Kal. May. Avignon. (f. 287.)	To John de Britannia, earl of Richmond. Indult that his confessor may give an indulgence of twenty days to penitents who on festivals hear the sermon in his chapel.

Kal. May. Avignon. (f. 315d.)	To Thomas, bishop, and the prior and chapter of Worcester. Answer, acknowledging the receipt of the king's letter, sealed with white wax, and sent by Robert de Luffenham, dated Windsor, 13 February, in the eleventh, year of his reign, informing the pope that he has received from the said bishop, prior, and chapter by J. bishop of Ely, and the chamberlains of the exchequer, the sum of 100l. of the six years tenth granted by Clement V. in the council of Vienne for the subsidy of the passage of the crusaders, which sum, together with 450 marks, already received from the late bishop Walter, the king binds himself to restore to the pope in five years from the 4 Kal. April last past.
