1319. 14 Kal. Dec. Avignon. (f. 5d.)	Citation of bishops William of St. Andrews, William of Dunkeld, Henry of Aberdeen, and David of Moray, to appear before the pope by the first of May touching the realm of Scotland, with order to all prelates and nobles of England to grant safe conduct to the said bishops. Cardinals Gaucelin and Luke having been sent to foster peace between king Edward and Robert Bruce, and letters sent by special envoys having been rejected by the said Robert, who has otherwise treated the pope's mission with contempt, this citation is issued.
Ibid. (f. 9.)	Publication of the above citation on the doors of the church of Avignon in order that Robert Brus, his envoys and proctors, may not pretend ignorance of the same, he having resisted for more than a year various ecclesiastical sentences issued against him.

Commission and mandate to cause to be paid to Lewis, bishop of Durham, according to papal letters, a third, or at least a fourth part, of the rents and proceeds of the chapter, to meet his losses caused by the incursions and devastations of the Scots, which, however, the bishop has not received, the chapter having raised objections against paying the same.

1320. 6 Kal. Mar. (f. 269d.)	To the same. Mandate to ascertain the facts touching the concession and deputation made by William, late bishop of Norwich, of the church of Suthcrek to the prior and convent of St. Mary's, Castleacre, and confirmed by Alexander III. The late king Edward, of whose patronage was the said church, caused a clerk to be instituted to it on his presentation, but afterwards gave the advowson to the said prior and convent, and subsequently Robert, archbishop of Canterbury, removed the said clerk, and, on the ground that the prior and convent delayed to present, instituted another, on which the prior and convent caused a fit person to be instituted to it by the ordinary on their presentation. The bishop of Winchester is ordered, if the facts are as stated, to confirm the original concession and deputation, and to cause possession of the church to be given to the prior and convent, a vicar's portion being reserved.

Concession to retain the canonry and prebend as well as the fruits of the rectory. He is to restore half the procurations received, and to pay one year's fruits of the rectory to the Holy Land subsidy.

Mandate to induct Thomas, son of Richard Talebat, into the rectory of Laxefeld in the diocese of Norwich, reserved to him by the pope, notwithstanding the papal provision made of the same to John de Bramham, who took the habit of St. Augustine before obtaining the rectory.
Ibid. (f. 287.)	To the dean and chapter of Hereford. Grant of the parish church of Scenigfeld, value 20l. of their patronage, with the chapel of Swallefeld in the diocese of Salisbury, for the rebuilding of the cathedral, so long as the work shall last. The old foundations were said by architects to be sound, and 20,000 marks having been spent in the superstructure, the whole threatened to fall, so that this sum and that spent on the canonization of Thomas de Cantalupo have burdened the chapter with debts.

12 Kal. May. Avignon. (f. 326d.)	To the archbishop of Dublin. Commission and mandate to absolve Edmund called ‘lu Buttillier,’ knight, his wife, and James, their son, of Ireland, from their vow to visit Compostella, they being unable to fulfil it on account of the wars between the English and the Irish. The expenses of the proposed journey are to be calculated, and the amount paid to the Holy Land subsidy.
15 Kal. July. Avignon. (f. 334.)	To John Cotesforde, formerly in the service of the king's justiciary. Dispensation, at the request of Hugh le Despenser, to minister in the orders he has received, and to hold a benefice, notwithstanding that he has been engaged before the said justiciary in causes of bloodshed, but not of murder.
7 Kal. Feb. Avignon. (f. 346.)	To Adam, bishop of Hereford. Faculty to confer the archdeaconry of Salop on a fit person of his choice, it having become void by the cession of John de Ros, who held it without papal dispensation, it having been wrongfully held by William, son of Thomas le Mercier of Ros, dean of Donsvic in the diocese of Norwich, who was also rector of Hinton St. George, in the diocese of Bath, without papal dispensation.
16 June [sic.] Avignon. (f. 350.)	To the bishop of Lincoln, to Rigaud, bishop elect of Winchester, and to the archdeacon of Lincoln. Mandate to cite before the pope Master James de Barthele, archdeacon of Northampton, who has opposed the papal provision made to John de Podio Barsaco, canon of Lincoln, of the prebend of the same void by the death of Hugh de Normanton, and refused to obey the papal mandate touching the same sent to the archbishop of Canterbury and the said Rigaud, then papal chaplain.

Ibid. (f. 375d.)	To Philip Matthei de Lanveir, successively perpetual vicar of St. Egwin in the diocese of St. Davids, value 5l. and rector of Langelon in the same diocese, of very small value. Dispensation to accept another benefice, resigning the vicarage, whose fruits are remitted to him.
Ibid.	To Richard Baret, perpetual vicar of Bromiard in the diocese of Hereford, on which while studying at Oxford he has not resided for fourteen years. Dispensation remitting to him the fruits received, but requiring him to resign the vicarage.

Provision of the rectory of Tide in the diocese of Lincoln, void by the cession of William de Rouden, who held it as a pluralist without lawful dispensation, the provision of it made to Master Elias de Asshebi, who died before the papal letters were published, not taking effect; and notwithstanding that Master Adam is rector of Elingham in the diocese of Norwich.

19 Kal. Feb. Avignon. (f. 380.)	To Rigaud, bishop elect of Winchester. Commission and mandate to appropriate to the archbishop of Canterbury the church of Canebroke (Cranbrook) of the archbishop's patronage, value 40 marks, situate in the wooded and desert part of the diocese, through which he has to pass, and where no lodging can be found during a long day's journey. A vicar's portion is reserved.
Kal. April. Avignon. (f. 381.)	To Bertrand, cardinal of St. Mary's in Aquiro. Provision of the rectory of Brantingham in the diocse of York, void by the cession of Robert de Pikering, who held it as a pluralist without papal dispensation.

6 Kal. June. Avignon. (f. 384.)	Appointment of Henry to the see of Lincoln, void by the death of John. Henry de Malmeffed (Mannesfeld), dean, having been elected, refused the election, whereupon the chapter elected Anthony [Bek] the chancellor, who petitioned the archbishop of Canterbury to confirm the election, but on learning that the appointment was reserved to the pope, the chancellor appealed to him, who annulled it.
	Concurrent letters to the chapter of Lincoln, to the clergy, and to the people of the diocese, to vassals of the church, to the archbishop of Canterbury, and to the king.
15 Kal. Feb. Avignon. (f. 588d.)	To the archbishop of York and his suffragans. Mandate to carry out the orders issued by Clement V. touching the Hospitallers. Restitution is to be made to them of the possession of which the Templars have been deprived, but which are withheld by certain nobles and bodies corporate of the realm, the king having given up what he held. Those who disobey this order are to be visited with ecclesiastical censures.

15 Kal. July. Avignon. (f. 401d.)	To John Swethog. Provision of the rectory of Birton in the diocese of York, value 18½ marks, void by the cession of the last rector who held it as a pluralist without papal dispensation.

15 Kal. May. Avignon. (f. 428d.)	Canonisation of the Blessed Thomas [Cantelupe], formerly bishop of Hereford. His virtues and miracles are related. A relaxation of enjoined penance of two years and two periods of forty days is granted to penitents who yearly approach his tomb on his feast, which is fixed on 6 Non. Oct. and to those who come during the octave a relaxation of a hundred days. [Bullarum Collectio, tom. iii., p. 178.]
	Concurrent mandate to all bishops and prelates, to publish the above canonization, and relaxation of penance, and to celebrate the feast on the appointed day.
4 Id. July. Avignon. (f. 430.)	Extension to next Christmas of the time within which Rigaud, bishop elect of Winchester, is to be consecrated, the limit of All Saints’ day having been first fixed.
16 Kal. July. Avignon. (f. 432.)	Sentence of excommunication against Robert de Brus for contumacy is published and enforced. He is to be absolved from it only at the point of death. The mission of cardinals Gaucelin and Luke is related, and the acts of Robert in invading England, and the rejection of the cardinals’ letters to Robert, are specified and condemned.
Ibid. (f. 434.)	Sentence of excommunication is issued against the bishops William of St. Andrews, William of Dunkeld, Henry of Aberdeen, and David of Moray, for contumacy, they having disobeyed the papal citation, although a safe conduct was granted to them.
4 Id. Aug. Avignon. (f. 447.)	To the archbishop of Canterbury, Walter bishop of Exeter, and Rigaud bishop elect of Winchester. Mandate to discuss the articles of peace made between the Friars Preachers and the university of masters and scholars of Oxford, which on the part of the provincial chapter of the said order were brought to the pope by the friars Nicholas de Stratton, and John de Wrotham, and on the basis of the said articles to bring the parties to an agreement. If they cannot do this, a full report of the difficulty is to be sent to the pope.
10 Kal. June. Avignon. (f. 453d.)	Prorogation to All Saints’ day next of the time within which Rigaud, bishop elect of Winchester, is to be consecrated.
1319. 4 Id. Sept. Avignon. (f. 457.)	To Simon de Lausellis. Provision, at the request of queen Isabella, whose clerk he is, of a benefice value 30 marks, in the gift of the bishop of Norwich. Papal provision had been made to him, then rector of St. Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey, of the rectory of Langneuton in the diocese of Durham, value 30 marks, but the lay patron of that church had vindicated his right in the king's court against the said provision.

4 Id. Sept. Avignon. (f. 458d.)	To the abbot and convent of Thame. Confirmation, at the king's request, of the union made to them of the church of Chilgrove of their patronage, with the consent of Walter Jorsz, coadjutor of the bishop, and the dean and chapter.
1320. 6 Kal. April. Avignon. (f. 459.)	To Guy de la Valle, rector of Maydenestan. Indult at the request of his kinsman, John, duke of Britanny, whose clerk he is, to retain the same, he being in deacon's orders and non-resident.

Mandate to carry out the papal provision made, at the king's request, to Master Thomas de Novavilla of the archdeaconry of Bedford, void by the cession of Master Roger de Rothewell, who held it as a pluralist without papal dispensation. John, bishop of Lincoln, dying before the papal letters left the Roman chancery, where they had remained for some months, the king in ignorance of them gave the archdeaconry to Edmund de Londoniis, who is to be removed therefrom.

Dispensation to Thomas, son of the late Richard Thalebot, priest, of the diocese of Hereford, who, in his twentieth year, on the presentation of his brother Gilbert, obtained the rectory of Credenhull, in the diocese of Hereford, which he held for six weeks, receiving from it 3s. and then, having been presented by his kinsman, the late Guy, earl of Warwick, to the rectory of Thoneworth, in the diocese of Worcester, held it for eleven years before resignation. He is to give one year's fruits of the said church to the Holy Land subsidy.
13 Kal. Sept. Avignon. (f. 600.)	To Master Thomas de Wilton, S.T.P. who, being chancellor and canon of London, remained for his studies at Paris, thereby breaking the oath of residence.
