Mandate to grant a dispensation to Roger Slaka, of Ottery St. Mary, acolyte, who has been suspended for three months because he, when a boy, being deputed by the curate to read the Epistle at mass, did so, having the maniple on his arm. The three months being now elapsed, Roger is to be allowed to minister in his orders and be promoted and hold a benefice.

4 Id. Dec. Avignon. (f. 353d.)	To John Petri, D.C.L. Provision of a canonry of Exeter, with reservation of a prebend, notwithstanding that he has the church of Alwington, value 10 marks, which he is to resign.

2 Non. Mar. Avignon. (f. 357.)	To Walter de Londoniis. On the promotion of Richard, dean of Wells, to the see of Durham, Walter, the king's confessor and almoner was, at his request, appointed to the deanery, notwithstanding that he had canonries and prebends of Lincoln and Salisbury, St. Paul's, and St. Martin's-le-Grand, London, and in the royal chapels of Bridgenorth and Hastings, and the church of Hareswell, in the diocese of Salisbury. The pope's predecessor, who made the appointment, willed that his letters touching Walter's expected preferment in Lincoln, and the processes, and whatever thereafter followed, should be annulled, but that those touching the canoury and prebend of Lincoln should remain in force, and that on obtaining the deanery he should resign the aforesaid church. John XXII. however, died before the bulls were attached to the letters. Now, at the king's request, the pope decrees that the appointment shall have the same force as if the letters had had the bulls attached, and annuls whatever has been attempted to the contrary. The canonry and prebend of Hastings is to be resigned.

8 Kal. Oct. Avignon. (f. 358.)	To the archbishop of Canterbury. Mandate, at the request of queen Philippa, to make provision to her principal chaplain, Simon de Northwode, rector of a moiety of Houghton Conquest, value 7 marks, of a canonry of Shaftesbury, with reservation of a prebend, notwithstanding that he has also the prebend of Witinton, in the church of Hereford, value 7 marks 7s. and that provision was made to him by John XXII. of a canonry of Shaftesbury, with reservation of a prebend, which is now annulled.
2 Non. Nov. Avignon. (f. 359d.)	To Gaucelin, bishop of Albano, papal penitentiary. Mandate to absolve and enjoin a penance on William, son of John Digoun of Upottery, clerk in minor orders, who, when a man suspected of theft was taken and brought before the king's stewards in those parts, was induced, by the inquest of sworn men, to write at the steward's dictation. William, being but a simple boy, at first excused himself, but finally wrote the inquest, as instructed by the steward; whereupon the prisoner was sent to gaol and detained there until the gaol delivery, when the justices came; the prisoner then denied the contents of the said inquest, and on another being brought before other sworn men, was thereon convicted, condemned, and hung.
8 Id. Nov. Avignon. (f. 361.)	To the bishop of Ferns and Lismore and the dean of Waterford. Mandate to defend and assist the bishop of Ossory for two years against those prelates and nobles who occupy and hold property belonging to him and to his church, and to call in, if necessary, the aid of the secular arm.
7 Kal. Dec. Avignon. (f. 365.)	To the patriarch of Grado, the abbot of Nuttele, in the diocese of Lincoln, and the archdeacon of Norwich. Mandate to obtain information touching the alleged acts done by John de Neusom, who, supported by the secular power, despoiled Gilbert de Bukinham, rector of Naylaston, in the diocese of Lincoln, of that church, and thrust himself into it. If this is so, John is to be cited before the pope within two months.
