5 Kal. Feb. Avignon. (f. 16d.)	To the bishops of Worcester and Salisbury, and to Master William [Testa], archdeacon of Aran, in the church of Comminges. Mandate, at the king's request, to enquire into the merits of Richard de Kidinton, abbot elect of Westminster, and, if he is worthy, to appoint him. The monastery being void by the death of Walter, the said Richard, a monk of the same, was elected; but an appeal to the pope was made against his election by Roger de Buiyns, prior of Sudbury, in the diocese of Norwich, who ought to have been summoned to take part in it; and when Richard came to Rome to have his election confirmed, the pope committed the matter to cardinal Peter Colonna. On Roger's death, Master John de Recca, proctor of Roger de Aldeuchan, monk of the said monastery, asserted that the abbot elect was not free from some faults.

On the death of John, the prior and convent commissioned John Passavant, archdeacon of the same, Luke prior of Hartfel Penciorel (Hatfield Peverel), Richard prior of Horford (Hertford), John de Dunstupele, William de Bohun, William de Hexteneston, William Lebarbur, Richard de Paxton, and Richard de Treenggre, monks, to elect, when their choice fell on Hugh, who thereupon came to the pope, and on being examined by three cardinals, his election is confirmed.

Dispensation to hold a canonry and prebend of Bella Aqua and the church of Middelton Supervallis, in the dioceses of Lausanne, and York, as well as the deanery of Syluyac, in that of Geneva; this last he obtained by a papal dispensation, in which no mention was made of the other benefices.
8 Kal. Mar. Avignon. (f. 83.)	To the Cistercian abbot and convent of Robertsbridge, in the diocese of Chichester. Appropriation of a prebend in the king Edward's chapel, in the castle of Hastings, the rents of which consist of tenths in the churches of Salherst and Odimere (Udimore), given to them by William de Etchingham and con firmed by the king, and the chapel of Mundefeld (Mountfield) depending on the said prebend; to take effect on the death or resignation of the prebendary and rector, the prebend and chapel being served by chaplains, who are to be presented to the bishop.

Provision of the canonry, prebend, and precentorship of Lichfield, void by the death of Raymund, cardinal of New St. Mary's, notwithstanding that he has canonries and prebends of Noyon and St. Omer, and the churches of St. Peter, Stepelmont, and Holy Trinity, Stelendon, in the dioceses of Ely and Worcester.
	Concurrent mandate to the bishop of Durham, the abbot of Westminster, and Peter Giudice, canon of Verona.
10 Kal. July. Avignon. (f. 96d.)	To Ralph, abbot of St. Augustine's, Canterbury. Confirmation of his election. The monastery being void by the death of Thomas, the prior and convent appointed Ralph, Adam de Rydem, chamberlain, John de Pecham, John Godehep, Robert de Fakenham, Simon de Byer, and William de Oxonia to elect; Ralph unwillingly consented to his election, and came to the Roman court, where, after examination by three cardinals, the election is confirmed.

10 Kal. July. Avignon. (f. 99d.)	To Malachy, bishop of Elphin. On the death of Donatus, the canons elected Malachy, but Salomon, the dean, elected Charles, abbot of Lochke, who was confirmed by Master Reginald, official, and consecrated by the archbishop of Armagh; whereupon Malachy and the canons appealed to the pope, who finally annulled the election and consecration of Charles, confirming the sentence of Thomas, cardinal of St. Sabina's, and orders Malachy to be consecrated by Nicholas, bishop of Ostia and Velletri.

1309. 8 Kal. Jan. Avignon. (f. 103.)	To William de Stanweye. Confirmation, at the request of Garsias Arnaldi, canon of Auch, papal chaplain, of the vicarage of Mundeham, in the diocese of Chichester, which he, being in minor orders, obtained, but was refused ordination to the priesthood by John, bishop of Chichester, so that, according to the constitution of Ottobon, cardinal of St. Adrian's, he could not hold the vicarage.

Reservation, in extension of a former reservation made to him of a benefice in the gift of the archbishop of Canterbury, value 100l. of one to the value of 120l.notwithstanding that he has other letters allowing him to obtain benefices to the amount of 50l.and holds the church of Tilberton, or Tiberton, in the diocese of Hereford, value 12 marks.
13 Kal. Aug. Groseau. (f. 106.)	To Henry son of John de Hastings, knight, lord of Bergeveny, in the diocese of Llandaff, who is under age, and not in orders. Dispensation, at his father's request, to hold three benefices, without being ordained until the proper age, or residing, whilst he is engaged in his studies.
Ibid.	To Master Simon de Shyrlee. Confirmation of his benefices. At the age of fourteen he obtained in commendam the church of St. Gregory, Bernham, in the diocese of Norwich, value 20 marks, and at the age of twenty-two was ordained subdeacon and instituted to the rectory, and held it for many years without being ordained priest; he then obtained the secular priory of Danewelle, in the diocese of Coventry and Lich field, to which the church of Bertone is annexed, value 40 marks, and also a canonry and prebend of St. Mary's, Stafford, value 20s. He is to give 20 marks to his benefices within two years.

Dispensation to retain a moiety of the rectory of Leringsete, or Loringsete, in the diocese of Norwich, value 10l. which he held, not being a priest, and that of Yelvertoft, in the diocese of Lincoln, value 13 marks; with indult to him to accept one other benefice.

He was dispensed on account of illegitimacy, and obtained the moiety of St. Helen, Thedilthorp, in the diocese of Lincoln, value 7 marks, and, on resigning it, accepted the church of Wytherin, in the same diocese, value 30 marks. Dispensation to retain the same, and also to accept another benefice, value 30l.
4 Kal. Sept. Groseau. (f. 128d.)	To Guicard son of Amaneuus, lord of Lebret. Indult to visit his archdeaconry of Huntingdon by deputy for three years, and receive procurations.

5 Kal. July. Avignon. (f. 130.)	To John de Cokerin, subdeacon. He has obtained the churches of Castelrissing and Tynynham, and the canonries and prebends of Longeruge in Penkrich, and Kinkeb in St. Mary's chapel, St. Andrews, in that diocese, and those of. Norwich and Coventry, and, afterwards resigning Castelrissing, accepted the church of Horsynton, in the diocese of Bath and Wells, whose value amounts to 100 marks, and held them for some years without being ordained priest. Dispensation to retain the same, and, on resigning either Tynynham or Horsyntone, to accept another benefice, value 60l.
Kal. May. Avignon. (f. 130d.)	To Ingelard de Warlei, dean of the king's chapel of Bridgnorth (Brugis). He, by papal dispensation, obtained the churches of Croppethorne, Chynynton, Albrihton, and Mokleston, in the dioceses of Coventry, Worcester, and Norwich. Dispensation, on resigning two of them, to accept the church of Sabricheworth, in the diocese of London, and another benefice, notwithstanding that he has canonries and prebends in York, Wells, St. Davids, and St. Martin's le Grand, London.
Ibid.	To William de Molton, provost of St. John's, Beverley. He, by papal dispensations, obtained the churches of Lyth and Fakenhandam, in the dioceses of York and Norwich, and canonries and prebends of Lincoln, York, Dublin, Beverley, and Southwell, and the deanery of St. Martin's le Grand, London. Dispensation to retain the same, he being in doubt whether he has not exceeded the said dispensations, and also to accept the church of Spofford, in the diocese of York, and on resigning two of the said benefices or dignities to accept others.

Provision of the perpetual vicarage of that church, in the diocese of Hereford, which indeed he had held for two years; but John de Kemeseyn, the rector, occupied it on the ground that its value exceeded the amount named in the letters in favour of John, who also, not being then a priest, was ineligible, according to the decree of Ottobon, papal legate.

	Concurrent mandate to the archdeacons of Poitiers and of Cleveland and Master Gaucelin Johannis, canon of Aix.
5 Kal. Nov. Carpentras. (f. 162d.)	To Beniface de Quarto, nephew of Aymon, bishop of Geneva, rector of Donganayn, in the diocese of Lismore. Indult to postpone being ordained priest for four years while engaged in his studies at an university.

Mandate to cite the rector and convent of the Augustinian house of Asserugie (Ashridge), in the diocese of Lincoln, to appear before the pope in person, or by proctor, within four months, with all papers touching the cause between them and the preceptor and brethren of the chapel of St. Thomas the Martyr in Acon, commonly called the hospital, in the city of London, who have complained that the said chapel, situated, in the place called ‘Altovico,’ and the church of Calcherche, near the said chapel, have been taken from them by the said rector and convent. The pope has appointed William, cardinal of St Nicholas in Carcere, to hear the cause.

Mandate to cite John Busce of London to appear before the pope to answer touching the cause between him and Francis son of Peter Caetani, count of Caserta, nephew of Francis, cardinal of St. Mary's in Cosmedin, whose canonry and prebend of York have been wrongfully occupied by the said John, who, having been already cited at the prayer of the said cardinal, did not appear, and the cause was allowed to drop.

Mandate to restore to Walter de Wlpec, a poor priest of the diocese, the right he had by papal provision to a benefice in the gift of the prior and convent of St. Mary's and All Saints, Westacre; but which he, on an agreement made by Master Nicholas de Witcherche, canon of Lincoln, acting for the bishop of Norwich between him and the prior and convent, renounced, on condition of receiving a pension of 20s. until he got a benefice of 10l. which has not been given him, although many of that value have become void.

Mandate to assign to Walter de Maydenestan a benefice value 120lhe having had an indult without effect to receive a benefice in the gift of the archbishop of Canterbury, value not exceeding 100l. and this notwithstanding that he had dispensation to hold other benefices to the value of 50l. by virtue of which he held the church of Tilbertone, in the diocese of Hereford, value 20 marks, and has provision made to him of the next vacant prebend of York, and is canon of Scotien, and has the chapel of Calannac, in the diocese of Bordeaux.

Absolution from the sentence of excommunication he may have incurred by leaving his order and going to the Benedictine house of St. James outside the walls of Wiirzburg, where he was professed, and has remained for six years, with licence to betake himself to any Cistercian monastery he pleases. Extension of the dispensation granted to him to hold the churches of Wanyngdon, Haukeswelle, and Gayrgrave, in the dioceses of Lincoln and York, together with canonries and prebends of York, Wells, Borford, and Langcester, in the dioceses of Hereford and Durham, provided their total value did not exceed 100l. but as it hardly reaches 66l. he is now, at the request of Otho de Grandison, whose clerk he is, allowed to hold one more benefice, and on resigning one of the said churches to accept another in its place, the limit of 100l. being preserved.

To Nicholas de Lovetio Dispensation to hold one benefices in addition to the rectories of Welhope (Wallop), Kirkeoswald, and Stokyuanune, in the dioceses of Winchester, Carlisle, and Exeter, and a canonry and prebend of the royal chapel of Wolverhampton; and on resigning any one of these benefices to accept another.

He, in his eighteenth year, obtained the rectory of St. Ilda, Dalnach, in the diocese of Down, value 4l. and was ordained priest, afterwards accepting the church of St. Patrick, Haythranton (Ballyaghran), in the diocese of Connor, value 6l. 1310. 4 Kal. Sept. Groseau. (f. 237.)	To Robert de Bardewi. Confirmation of a dispensation by which he obtained and held the rectories of Sandherst and Dudtungton, in the dioceses of Canterbury and Ely, with one other benefice, and then accepted the church of Monkenton on More, and the prebend of Donington, in York; but as in the dispensation there was no mention of the churches of Burgualeys and Brideford, in the dioceses of York and Exeter, and the canonry of the chapel of St. Mary and the Angels, York, which he already held, he has begged that this omission may not nullify the said dispensation.
8 Kal. Nov. Groseau. (f. 262d.)	To John de Lewes, canon of Wengham, in the diocese of Canterbury. Absolution, at the request of Thomas, cardinal of St. Sabina's, whose chamberlain he is, from the sentence of excommunication he has incurred under the statutes of archbishop John, since deceased, by breaking the oath he took to observe them in not paying, as administrator of the said church, what was due to canons and persons of the same; this he confessed to a penitentiary at the apostolic see, and was absolved by him; but archbishop Robert allowed this absolution to hold good only in conscience and not in law, and summoned the said John, who, in fear of his position, came to the pope, and is by him absolved and dispensed, every process against him on this count being revoked.
Kal. July. Avignon. (f. 267.)	To the bishop of Ely. Mandate to enquire into the case of the Augustinian prior, and Bartholomew de Coventry and Thomas de Bradeway, canons, of Kenilworth monastery, touching the visitation of the priory of Brok by the bishop of Lincoln. Stephen, prior of Brok, where the said canons were dwelling, had appealed to the archbishop of Canterbury, and, in order to hinder this appeal, was dragged from before the high altar of the monastery of Torkesey, where he had been placed by the bishop, and, with the two canons, was imprisoned by the said prior of the monastery, and forced to confess that they had betrayed him; they were then deprived of their religious profession, and silence was imposed on them. The canons, however, got away and came to the pope, who, if their tale is true, orders that Stephen, if he is still alive, is to be liberated, and the three admitted into other monasteries of the same order.

Acquittance of a sum of 29,000 Florentine florins and 2000 great florins of Lamasa—value 4000 Florentine florins—and 600l. received by them from Masters William Testa and Garsias Arnaldi, papal agents in England, and paid over to the pope in the amount of 37,070 florins.
