Declaration of the validity of the dispensation in regard to the fourth degree of kindred granted to John, earl of Warenne, and Joan de Barre by Clement V. thirty-three years ago, and of all like dispensations; seeing that the said earl, pretending that the said dispensation was invalid, because his wife was related in the third degree to the common stock and he in the fourth, has put away his wife, and contrary opinions have been given by divers doctors touching the same matter.

Rehabilitation, inasmuch as in his eighteenth year he obtained the church of Boukerne Westan, in the diocese of Salisbury, value 100s. on the presentation of Robert de Maundevile, and was ordained priest, and is now in his twenty-fifth year. Three parts of the fruits received are remitted, the fourth is to be assigned to the papal camera for the expenses against the Turks. He is to resign the church.

‘8 Kal. July. Bordeaux.’ [3 Kal. July, Avignon.] (f. 135d.)	To the abbot and convent of Bardenay. Confirmation of the union of the churches of Hale and Hekinton, made by Clement V. [8 Kal. Oct. anno 1,] which did not take effect, inasmuch as the expedited letters, exemplification of which is given from the register, could not be found. A portion of 10l. is to be assigned to the vicar of Hale, and of 10 marks to the vicar of Hekinton. Pensions of five marks were received from Hekinton, and 13s. 4d. from Hale, Hekinton being valued at 45 marks, and Hale at 54 marks. [See Calendar of Regesta ii. 20.]

Mandate to absolve Thomas le Mareschal from the excommunication incurred by contracting marriage with Isabella de Foxle, knowing that he had cohabited with her sister. He is to found a chaplaincy with 8 marks within two years; his wife is freed from the conjugal debt, and if he survive her he is to remain unmarried.

4 Id. Jan. Avignon. (f. 180d.)	To the bishop of Lincoln. Mandate touching certain monks of Eynsham, who in bodily fear were driven from the monastery by the abbot, Nicholas de Upton, of whom five came to the apostolic see, and the remaining nine were dispersed in divers places of England. If it can be done without danger, they are to be provided with the necessaries of life in that or another monastery of the order. Nicholas, having been deprived by the bishop on his visitation, returned with 1500 armed men and turned out William de Stanford, Whom the bishop had promoted to be abbot. The monks named are Nicholas de Stanlake, John de Oxonia, Walter de Elmeley, Robert de Wygornia, Giles de Teukesbury, Walter de Bredon, Thomas Botiler, Thomas de Saliford, Nicholas de Chilesey, John de Nony, Geoffrey de Lanbourne, Henry de Idebury, John de Saunton, and John de Huntingdon.

Mandate to grant a dispensation to Richard, earl of Arundel, and Eleanor, daughter of Henry, earl of Lancaster, to remain in the marriage which they contracted at Ditton in king Edward's presence, notwithstanding that Richard had previously carnally known Isabella de Dispenser, related to Eleanor in the third and fourth degrees. They are to found three chaplaincies of 10 marks each in the parish church of the earl's principal place, within a year. [Cal. Pet. i. 75.]

3 Non. Jan. Avignon. (f. 278d.)	To William de Acon. Rehabilitation and dispensation in that he successively obtained the churches of Wavynton, Dalynton, and Fenny Drayton, in the diocese of Lincoln, without a dispensation; 50 gold florins are to be given by him to the subsidy against the Turks.

Faculty to reserve to his collation four benefices, value 30 marks with cure of souls, or 20 without, one of them in the gift of the prior and chapter of Coventry, another in that of the abbot of Chester, the third in that of the abbot of Shrewsbury, and the fourth in that of the prior of Kenilworth, to be given to four clerks of his choice, seeing that he has only four parish churches in his gift, of which one is united to the church of Lichfield, and the other to that of Coventry, with the obligation of praying for the soul of Edward I.

Confirmation of the appropriation of North Walsham, value 62 marks, and mandate to pay the portion assigned by Anthony, bishop of Norwich, to the vicar of the said church, which church was united to the said monastery in compensation for that of Scothow, taken from them by lay power, and on account of losses by flood and fire.
