Jan. anno 1, empowering him to make statutes for the said hospital, and the endowment of the same by the duke with the manors of Kynmersford, value 300 marks, in the diocese of Worcester, Hanyndon, value 100 marks a year, and Inglesham, value 15 marks, in that of Salisbury, and Woleston, value 63 marks 2s. 9d. in that of Lincoln, the previous possessions of the hospital being worth 100 marks a year; erecting the church of the hospital into a collegiate church called the New Church of St. Mary, to consist of thirteen secular canons, one of whom shall be dean, thirteen vicars, three clerks, six choristers, and one minister; the hospital containing in addition to the fifty poor men and five women, previously supported there, fifty more poor men and five women to wait on them; and ordaining, amongst other things, that the dean, canons and vicars shall all be in priest's orders, that each canon shall have a prebend, and the prebends shall be called 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so forth, whereof the first on the south side shall be annexed to the deanery. Three of the canons shall be provost, sacristan, and almoner, and may not refuse the office. The dean is to receive 80 marks a year from the provost, the provost 5 marks, the sacristan 20s. in addition to their prebends, which shall be 10 marks each. The vicars shall receive 12d. after the offertory at high mass every Saturday, and 20s. 8d. or their value in gold a year, for clothing and necessaries; each of the three clerks is to have 40s. a year. The hundred men are to have a penny every [—] day weekly, the women a penny every Friday weekly with a halfpenny every year, from the almoner, who shall receive the money weekly from the provost. The total sum paid weekly shall not be altered, even though the number of poor men may be. Evil livers and able-bodied paupers shall be dismissed. The poor men are to live in one house with a chapel, in which mass shall be said at dawn and at nine every day by two vicars, to be assigned every week. The presentation to the deanery shall belong to the duke and his heirs. The canons are to be instituted, and to dress according to the forms given. The chorister boys are to be nominated by the sacristan, and to be under his orders and have the same duties as at Salisbury. There is also to be a minister, a married clerk or layman, to carry a white staff before the dean and canons, and to receive as much as one of the clerks. The dean and canons and vicars are to be resident, but may absent themselves with leave for two kalendar months in the year, continuously or otherwise, so that not more than three canons and vicars are away at a time. They shall not say mass for the dead, except as ordained for the family of Henry, duke of Lancaster, and be content with their wages. The dean and canons are to meet in the chapter house every Saturday to have the faults of the previous week corrected, and once a quarter the statutes are to be read. The bishop of Lincoln is to be the visitor. The dean must celebrate mass on all greater double feasts, the translation of St. Hugh, and the anniversary of the foundation of the church, unless the bishop wishes to do so. The almoner has charge of the hospital and 20s. a year for his services. Each canon shall have a house and keep it in repair. The dean, almoner, and sacristan shall have the three keys of the common chest, as also of the three chests in the church, for muniments, for jewels and relics, and for the books of the community which may be lent out, and of the common seal. No corrodies are to be given. Chantries may be founded, and their chaplains must dress like the other vicars.
