St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 71.)
Commutation motu proprio as below—in aid of the repair, for which the almost exhausted resources of the camera are insufficient, of the castle of Crescentius alias St. Angelo, and the pope's proposed construction of a chapel of St. Angelo on its summit (in cacumine)—of the last will and testament, made in Rome, where he died, of Eustace alias Statius [son] of John Manerii, of Florence, called Maneys, Englishman (nacione Anglicus) and layman. Eustace constituted Julian [son] of John [son] of Lipus Alberti, citizen and merchant of Florence, his sole heir and executor, who was to hire two honest priests to celebrate mass daily during three years for the souls of the testator and all faithful departed, and was to give to each 40 gold ducats a year. He was also to lay out 100 gold ducats for the release of poor debtors in the Capitol, at not more than 10 ducats each. He has hired Thomas Truria, Friar Preacher, and Roger Knyht, priests, of the diocese of Salisbury, promised each the above sum, paid them 10 gold ducats apiece, they binding themselves to celebrate, and has laid out 20 gold ducats for the release of captives in the Capitol. The 300 gold ducats which remain to carry out the will, the pope hereby converts towards the said construction and repair. He absolves Julian, Thomas and Roger from their obligations, and for Julian's greater security imposes perpetual silence on Thomas and Roger. Ad fut. rei mem. Romanus pontifex. (De Curia.)
