Mandate to collate and assign to Patrick Oserwan, priest, rector of the free chapel of St. Mary Magdalen in the diocese of Down, the still void rectory, called the plebania, of the parish church of St. Colman, Cyllcaeyl, in the said diocese, value not exceeding 10 marks, to which, on its voidance by the death of Patrick Owyn, he (who had received dispensation, as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman related in the fourth and fourth degrees of affinity, by authority of the ordinary to be promoted to minor orders and hold the said chapel, without cure, and, after he had obtained the same, by papal authority to be promoted etc. as above, f. 10d) was presented by the patron, Edmund de Mortuomari, earl of March and Ulster, to bishop John, who instituted him. Patrick doubts whether the said presentation and institution, under which he obtained and still holds the rectory, are valid. The collation is to be made notwithstanding that Patrick holds the said chapel, value not exceeding 1 mark, and that the pope recently granted him provision of the rectory of St. Cailan's (Sancti Coelani), Nedrym, in the said diocese, of which he has not got possession, value not exceeding 7 marks, which grant is to be null upon his obtaining St. Colman's. Mandate to summon the patron and James Skirmegeour, deacon, of the diocese of Brechin, M.A., B.C.L., who has for more than a year and a half unduly detained possession of the rectory of St. Columba's in Glasrod in the diocese of Argyll, of lay patronage, which became void because the late Gilbert called Macperson, when holding the vicarage thereof, obtained the rectory, and held both together against ‘Excerabilis’ for more than four years, and which has been so long void that its collation has by the Lateran statutes lapsed to the apostolic see; and, removing the said James, to collate and assign the said rectory, value not exceeding 40l. sterling, to Nigel [son] of Colin Cambell, who is archdeacon of Argyll and by both his parents of noble birth; notwithstanding that Nigel holds the said archdeaconry, a non-major dignity with cure, value likewise not exceeding 40l. sterling (with which he lately received papal dispensation to hold another incompatible benefice with or without cure etc., and to resign both, for exchange or otherwise), and the perpetual vicarage of St. Finan's in the said diocese, value not exceeding 24 marks sterling, which latter he is to resign upon obtaining the above rectory.
