After receiving papal dispensation, as the son of a deacon and an unmarried woman, as in the preceding, and obtaining the perpetual vicarage of Bytteswell, he, without any other dispensation on account of the said defect, resigned the said vicarage and obtained that of Magna Assheby, value not exceeding 11 marks, both in the diocese of Lincoln. Subsequently, on the voidance of the parish church of Willeby in the same diocese, value not exceeding 10 marks, by the resignation of Nicholas Frollysworth to bishop Richard, Reginald Gray, lord of the place of Rythyn in the diocese of Bangor, patron of Willeby, presented Bekeby to the said bishop, who instituted him, in virtue of which presentation and institution he obtained possession of Willeby, and has kept possession thereof for six months, as well as of the said vicarage of Magna Assheby for ten months before he resigned it. He is to resign Willeby. Sedes apostolica, pia mater.
17 Kal. Nov. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 33.)	To John Sampson, priest, perpetual beneficiary at the altar of St. Mary Magdalen in the church of St. Mary, Suthwel, in the diocese of York. Indult, at his petition—containing that in the foundation and endowment of the perpetual benefice called a chantry at the said altar, which is without cure, it is provided that its holder shall, like the vicars of the said church, be present at all the canonical hours and reside at the said church, celebrating daily at the said altar, and shall hold no other benefice—to hold for life with the said benefice, provided that the assent of the patron or patrons thereof be given, any other benefice with or without cure, and to resign the same, simply or for exchange; and moreover, whilst in the service of the said patron or patrons or other, or studying letters at an university or residing in the Roman court, not to be bound to reside in person at the said church. 4 Id. Oct. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 34d.)	To the prior of Inishmurray (Insula Muregard’) in the diocese of Elphin. Mandate, at the recent petition of Bernard Yfflannagan, priest, of the diocese of Elphin—containing that he proposes to found and build in the place de Minbrisg alias inter duos pontes sive de Castro Sligeue in the said diocese a hospital and a contiguous chapel of St. Mary the Virgin and St. John Baptist; that his own goods are insufficient for the purpose, and that there are certain rents etc. belonging to the perpetual benefice without cure called the rectory of the said place, the collation and provision of which benefice belong to the prior of the priory of Kyllemagnend in the diocese of Dublin, of the pope's hospital of Santo Spirito in Sassia, Rome, which benefice has from time immemorial been without a rector, and whose said rents etc. have for more than a hundred years been in the hands of divers lay persons; and that he hopes to recover the said rents etc., whose yearly value does not exceed 20 marks, from the said laymen, if they be applied to the said foundation—to summon the said prior and others concerned, and if their consent be forthcoming and, after Bernard has given sufficient surety that he will duly convert the said rents etc. to the said purpose, to license him to found and build the said hospital and chapel, with bell, bell-tower and other offices. The above prior is furthermore to suppress the said benefice, and to appropriate to the said hospital and chapel the said rents etc.; and in the event of all this being done, the pope grants indult that mass and other divine offices may be celebrated in the said chapel by fit priests, secular or regular, of any order, to be appointed by Bernard or, after his death, by the rectors of the hospital. (fn. 2) Dispensation to him—who is a priest and of noble race, and holds the said church, and to whom provision has been made by authority of the ordinary of the parish church, of which he has not got possession, of Llandiffenan in the diocese of Bangor, value not exceeding 40 and 20 marks respectively—to hold for life with Brekill Magna, Llandyffenan, if he obtain it, or any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign both, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. Lately the pope dispensed him, after granting him [above, p. 406] provision of the perpetual vicarage of Tibermore in the diocese of Dunkeld, to hold for three years with the deanery of Dunblance, which is a major dignity with cure, the said vicarage or any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible. At his recent petition, containing that the said period of three years is about to end, the pope dispenses him—who is of royal race, is chief (major) almoner of James, king of Scots, holds still the said deanery and the parish church of Lilliscleffe in the diocese of Glasgow, value together not exceeding 40l. of old sterlings, and the canonry and prebend of Inchemagranach in Dunkeld, value not exceeding 10l. of old sterlings, and laterly received papal dispensation, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman. (i) to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even if it had cure or were a canonry and prebend of a cathedral church, (ii) to hold any other mutually compatible benefices with or without cure, even if they were canonries and prebends of cathedral churches, and one were a dignity, but not major nor principal, and to resign them for purpose of exchange as often as he thought good, (iii) to hold even such major or principal dignity, even if elective —to continue to hold the said deanery and church, and to do so for life, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. Man- date to collate and assign to Murianus Okyanan, scholar, of the diocese of Elphin, who lately received papal dispensation, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted etc. as above, f. 6d, the perpetual vicarage de Minbrisg alias de Sligrach in the said diocese, value not exceeding 5 marks, void by the death of Thomas Ocuathalan, although the Cistercian abbot of Boyle (de Buellio) in the said diocese, who is to be removed, has for more than eight years detained possession. Mandate to collate and assign to John Ogubuin, rector of Cluainmane in the diocese of Derry, who lately received papal dispensation, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted etc. as above, f. 6d, the rectory or plebania of Cluaincacha in the said diocese, value not exceeding 14 marks, void because Solomon Obrolchan has entered and made his profession as a canon of the above Augustinian monastery of St. Columba, Derry; although Donald Odubay, priest, of the said diocese, who is to be removed, has detained possession for more than three years, under pretext of letters of the present pope in which no mention is made of the fact that at the time thereof he had already unduly detained possession for more than two years; notwithstanding that John holds the said rectory of Clu[a]inmane and that lately the pope ordered provision to be made to him [below, f. 254] of the rectory or plebania of Maghbhile in the said diocese, value not exceeding 8 and 20 marks respectively, and made provision to him of canonries of Limerick and Ossory with reservation of as many prebends, and dispensed him to hold the said canonries and prebends, and to hold for life with the said rectory of Clu[a]inmane etc. as in the following letter. He has hereby the further necessary dispensation, also for life; with the condition of resigning Cluainmane upon obtaining Cluaincacha. Vite etc. (Pe. xxviii. Secundo Id. Mandate, if the above John Ogubuin, rector of Cluainmane, who lately received papal dispensation as the son of a priest etc. as in the preceding, will accuse in the abbot's presence Robert Mackeallaidh, rector or plebanus of Maghb[h]ile, of being a perjuror and notorious fornicator, and of dilapidating the fruits etc. of Maghbhile for the benefit of his concubine and others, and if he find the charges to be true, to deprive and remove Robert, and in that event to collate and assign the said rectory or plebania, value not exceeding 20 marks, to John; notwithstanding that he holds the said rectory of Cluainmane, value not exceeding 8 marks, and that the pope has lately made provision to him of canonries of Limerick and Ossory, with reservation of as many prebends, and has dispensed him to hold them. He is hereby dispensed to hold for life with the said rectory of Cluai[n]mane the said rectory or plebania of Maghbhile or any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign both, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases.
