1427. 7 Id. Dec. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 5.)	To Robert Dykes, rector of Campsale in the diocese of York, S.T.M. Dispensation to him—who holds, besides Campsale, a canonry and prebend of the chapel royal of St. Clement within the castle of Pontefract, whose (quorum) value does not exceed 97 marks, and a canonry and prebend of St. Chad's, Shrewsbury, [value not given], and the rectorship without cure, called the wardenship, of the poor hospital of Denwall in the diocese of York, which is wont to be assigned by the title of a perpetual benefice and whose (cujus) value does not exceed 42 marks—to hold for life, together with the said church, any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign both, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. 1427. 7 Id. Dec. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 5.)	To Thomas Thowe, rector of St. Mary Magdalen's, Canterbury. Dispensation to him—who is of noble race and whom the pope lately [Cal. Lett. VII, p. 273] dispensed to hold for five years with the parish church of Addestocke in the diocese of Lincoln any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign both, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased, etc.; after which he, by collation made by authority of the ordinary, obtained St. Mary Magdalen's, and subsequently, having resigned Addestocke, obtained Horsmonden in the diocese of Rochester, which and St. Mary's, value together not exceeding 38 marks, he has held for some time—the said five years being about to end, to continue to hold the said two churches for life, and to resign etc. as in the preceding. 13 Kal. Jan. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 10d.)	To George, elect of Argyll alias Lismore. Faculty for him, to whom the pope has recently made provision of the said see, to be consecrated by any catholic bishop assisted by two or three like bishops. The consecrator is thereafter to receive and send to the pope his oath of fealty, as usual. Cum nos nuper.
10 Kal. Jan. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 10d.)	To Peter Schelton, rector of Tudenham in the diocese of Norwich, B.C.L. Dispensation as below. John XXIII dispensed him, then M.A., to hold for five years with the said church any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign both, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased, etc. [Cal. Lett. VI, p. 216]. Subsequently the present pope, upon his setting forth that he had afterwards obtained and was holding with Tudenham the parish church of St. Mary in the Marsh (de Marisco) in Norwich, and that the end of the said period was at hand, prolonged it by other five years [Cal. VII, p. 361]. At Peter's recent petition, containing that having resigned St. Mary's he has obtained the parish church of Carleotonrode in the said diocese and is holding it with Tudenham, value together not exceeding 82 marks, the pope hereby dispenses him to hold them together for life, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases.Litterarum etc.
1428. 3 Non. Feb. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 19.)	To the bishop of Sodor. Mandate to dispense Donald Angucii and Catherine Murcardi, of his diocese, enjoining a penance for incest, to marry notwithstanding that they formerly, knowing that they were related from divers stocks in the third and third degrees of kindred and the third and double fourth degrees of affinity, committed fornication with one another and had offspring, which, and future offspring, is to be decreed legitimate. 13 Kal. April. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 28d.)	To all etc. Relaxation of two years and two quarantines of enjoined penance to penitents who on the feast of SS. Peter and Paul, from the first to the second vespers, visit and give alms for the repair and conservation of the parish church of Upton in the diocese of Salisbury, a number of whose buildings need repair, especially the walls and roof, which threaten ruin. Licet is.
1428. Kal. March. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 28d.)	To Robert Cooke alias Plomer, clerk, of the diocese of Bath. Dispensation to him, who is a minor (minor annis existis), as soon as he attains his twenty-first year, to hold any benefice with cure. Vite etc. [Cf. f. 29d.]

Dispensation to him, who is of noble race and holds, besides the said church, the chapel without cure of Aluerton in the same diocese, value not exceeding 20l. and 10l. sterling, to hold for life with the said church any other benefice etc. as above, f. 5. Relaxation, during ten years, of three years and three quarantines of enjoined penance to penitents who on the principal feasts of the year and the feasts of the dedications of the below-named church and chapel, the octaves of certain of them and the six days of Whitsun week, and of a hundred days to those who during the said octaves and days visit and give alms for the repair and conservation of the church of the Augustinian monastery of Hintind[on] in the diocese of Lincoln and the chapel which, contiguous to the said church, was founded and consecrated in honour and under the name of St. Mary Alba, they having been impoverished and destroyed by fire etc. Licet is.

Mandate to dispense Odo Ylaharti of the diocese of Annadown, and Saubina de Burgo of the diocese of Tuam, to marry notwithstanding that they are related in the third degree of kindred, and in the double third degree of affinity because Odo committed fornication with a woman related to Saubina in the third degree of kindred, and because a certain man, related to Odo in the third degree of kindred, committed fornication with Saubina. Mandate to dispense Odo Flamyhadin and Joan Maneach de Burgo, of his diocese, to remain in the marriage which they formerly contracted per verba legitime de presenti in ignorance that they were related in the third degree of affinity because Odo, before the said marriage was contracted, committed fornication with a woman related to Joan in the third degree of kindred; past and future offspring being declared legitimate. 12 Kal. April. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 39d.)	To William de Wardlaro (sic), rector of the poor hospital of Muskilburch in the diocese of St. Andrews. Dispensation to him—who formerly received, by authority of the ordinary, dispensation as the son of a bishop (antistite) and a noble unmarried woman, to be promoted to all minor orders and hold a benefice without cure, after which he was so promoted and obtained the above hospital, which is without cure and is wont to be assigned by the title of a perpetual benefice to secular clerks; to whom the pope recently [below, f. 232] ordered provision to be made of the canonry and prebend of Kingask in the chapel royal of St. Mary, St. Andrews, value with that of the said hospital not exceeding 6 marks [cf. ibid.] sterling, and dispensed him to hold the said canonry and prebend —to be promoted to all holy orders and hold four other mutually compatible benefices with or without cure, and to resign them and the said canonry and prebend and hospital, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. Mandate to dispense James le Botiller and Anora, daughter of David Fizmoris de G[e]raldinis, of the dioceses of Lismore and Cloyne, who have committed fornication with one another, to marry notwithstanding that they are related in the third and double fourth degrees of kindred from divers stocks, and in the third degree of affinity because James committed fornication with a woman related to Anora in the third degree of kindred. 3 Id. March. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 74.)	To William Gosseleyn, rector of the parish church in Dalling (in Dalyngho, also written Dalyntho) in the diocese of Norwich, bachelor of canon law. Dispensation to him—who is a priest, and who formerly received papal dispensation, as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure—to hold with the said church, value not exceeding 25 marks of silver, two other benefices compatible therewith and with one another, with or without cure, and to resign all three, as often as he pleases, simply or for exchange. 1427. 19 Kal. Jan. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 84.)	To Ralph Wellys, canon of St. Asaph. Dispensation to him —who formerly received papal dispensation, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold one or two compatible benefices with or without cure, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased, in virtue of which he has had himself tonsured and ordained subdeacon, and obtained, and now holds, a canonry and prebend of St. Asaph and the parish church of Waneurgein (sic) with the annexed chapel of Foynt (fn. 2) in the diocese of St. Asaph, value altogether not exceeding 20l. sterling; who is a scholar of civil law in the university of Oxford, and desires to advance in the same—to hold two other benefices with or without cure, compatible with one another and with the aforesaid, and to resign all four, as often as he pleases, simply or for exchange. Dispensation to him —who is a priest, and formerly received papal dispensation, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, (i) to be promoted etc. as above, f. 74, (ii) after having obtained and resigned the parish church of Donizat in the diocese of Bath, to receive and hold the above church, value not exceeding 40 gold ducats, and canonries and prebends of Bayeux and Évreux, provision of which was ordered to be made to him by papal authority, value not exceeding 60l. of petits tournois—to hold benefices with or without cure, of any number and kind, compatible with one another and with Stokenoham, and to resign them and the said church and canonries and prebends, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. 19 Kal. Jan. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 119.)	To the bishop of Alet. Mandate to absolve from excommunication incurred for simony, enjoining penance, and to rehabilitate after temporary suspension, Florence Macnoglaydi, priest, of the diocese of Ardagh who, upon provision being ordered to be made to him by papal authority of the perpetual vicarage of Killaidh in the said diocese, then void by the death of Eneas Macnoglaydh, gave to Thady (Tydeus) Omulaid, priest, of the same diocese, who was in possession, a sum of money, and then obtained possession under pretext of the said mandate. Relaxation, during ten years, of three years and three quarantines of enjoined penance to penitents who on the principal feasts of the year and that of St. Patrick, the octaves of certain of them and the six days of Whitsun week, and of a hundred days to those who during the said octaves and days visit and give alms for the repair and conservation of the church of the Augustinian monastery of St. Mary, Cong, in the diocese of Tuam, to which church resorts at certain times of the year a multitude, and which is lacking in its buildings and in its books and other ecclesiastical ornaments. Dispensation to him—who holds also the hospital of St. James near Westminster without the walls of London, wont to be assigned to secular clerks by title of a perpetual benefice without cure, value not exceeding 40l. sterling, the canonries and prebends of Chewyk in London, Empyngham in Lincoln, and Combes in Wells, value altogether not exceeding 88 marks sterling, and a canonry and prebend of the chapel royal of St. Stephen within the royal palace of Westminster, value not exceeding 40s. sterling—to hold for five years with the said church, value not exceeding 40l. sterling, any other benefice with cure etc. as above, f. 163d. On recently setting out for the Roman court on his business, in order to preserve his life and goods, [constrained] by certain enemies he incautiously swore, to his prejudice, not to impetrate from the pope certain specified benefices. Lest the said oath give occasion for the detaining of benefices without canonical title, the pope hereby relaxes it, and decrees that Maurice is not bound to observe it. Sincere deuocionis affectus. Relaxation, during ten years, of one year and forty days of enjoined penance to penitents who on the principal feasts of the year and that of the dedication of the belownamed church (sic), the octaves… said octaves and days, as above, f. 142, visit and give alms for the repair and conservation of the chapel of St. Mary, Jesmonde, in the diocese of Durham, to which resorts a multitude on account of divers miracles wrought therein through the merits of St. Mary the Virgin, and whose buildings are very ruinous. Peter and Paul, from the first to the second vespers, visit and give alms for the repair and conservation of the church of the Benedictine monastery of SS. Peter and Paul de Innocencia near Atholoyn, in the diocese of Elphin, which is threatened with ruin on account of the wars which have afflicted those parts. Licet is.

1427. 10 Kal. Nov. Lateran. (f. 187.)	To all faithful. Exhortation—the pope having learned that between the town (opidum) of Boston in the diocese of Lincoln, to which every year resorts a great multitude of both sexes from far and near for trade, and the towns (ville) of Seynt Saviour in Kestevyri’ (sic), Spaldyng, Stykford and Waynflete, in the said diocese, the roads are, especially in winter on account of sea floods, very muddy and deep, and that often the bridges and causeways (calceta) between the said town and towns are destroyed or broken down, for the repair and conservation of which bridges no yearly revenues have been hitherto assigned —to give alms for the said repair and conservation; with relaxation of a hundred days of enjoined penance to penitents who do so. The present letters, which are to hold good for three years only, the pope strictly forbids to be sent by questuarii, and decrees. that if this be done they are null.Q[u]anto frequentius fidelium mentes. 1427. 16 Kal. Jan. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 207.)	To Donald, [son] of Dominic Macauere legu', perpetual vicar of St. Cathanus's in Gigha in the diocese of Sodor. Grant that the letters—whereby the pope lately ordered certain executors [not here named] to collate and assign to him the perpetual vicarage of St. Comanus's in the said diocese, as being void because the late Nemeas Mactarmayt, when holding it, obtained, by collation made by authority of the ordinary, the rectory of St. Conganus's de Duybrinis in the same diocese, removing Murcardus [son] of Comedinus Negelli, priest, of the same diocese, who had detained it for more than six years without canonical title, and to do so whether the vicarage became void in the way stated or by the death of the said Nemeas or in any other way—shall hold good from the date of these presents, as if they did not contain an assertion by Donald that he was by both parents of noble race, his recent petition stating that although he is so, he does not hope to be able to prove it judicially, and therefore fears molestation or delay in respect of the execution, which has not yet begun, of the said letters.Vite etc. (Pe. viii. Mandate—the pope having learned that the parish church of St. Comanus in Yle, in the diocese of Sodor, of the patronage of laymen, is and has so long been void by the death of Odo Macayg that its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Nigel Celestini, priest, of the said diocese, has unduly detained possession for more than two years under pretext of a collation made to him, after the said lapse, by authority of the ordinary; and the recent petition of bishop Angus having contained that the fruits etc. of his episcopal mensa are insufficient for his support—to summon and remove the said Nigel, and, provided that the consent of the patrons be given, to grant in commendam during the pleasure of the apostolic see the said church, value not exceeding 20 marks sterling, to the said bishop.
