1427. 6 Kal. Dec. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 53.)	To Nemeas Obeollayn, canon of Elphin. Mandate to collate and assign to Odo Micdiarmada, clerk, of the diocese of Elphin, the still void perpetual vicarage, value not exceeding 8 marks, of Archarna in the said diocese, which he formerly obtained by collation and provision, by ordinary authority, of bishop John, who had deprived P[h]ilip Macabreichum, Odo now doubting whether the said collation and provision hold good; notwithstanding that the pope lately ordered provision to be made to Odo of the archdeaconry of Elphin, a non-major dignity, about which he is litigating in those parts, which, and all right thereto, he is to resign, upon obtaining the said vicarage. 1428. 10 Kal. Feb. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 67d.)	To the archbishop of Dublin and the bishops of Adria and Meath. Mandate as below. The petition of Philip Stoyl, Augustinian prior of St. Mary, Conall, in the diocese of Kildare, contained that although he formerly obtained the said priory by papal authority on its voidance by the death of Robert [Grewys, Cal. Lett. VI, pp. 314, 437], Maurice Modewayt, Augustinian canon of St. Wolstan's in the diocese of Dublin, claimed it and intruded himself, and unduly detains possession, taking the fruits; that the pope committed Philip's appeal to the apostolic see, at his instance, to Master Peter Nardi, papal chaplain and auditor, who removed Maurice and restored Philip, condemning Maurice in fruits taken and in costs; that Maurice appealed to the said see, and that at the instance of Philip, who asserted that the said appeal was abandoned (deserta), the pope committed the céuse of the abandonment of Maurice's said appeal to Master John Walling, papal chaplain and auditor, who declared the said appeal from the sentence of Master Peter to have been and to be abandoned, and condemned Maurice in the further costs, the two sets of costs being assessed by Masters Peter and John at 27 and 8 florins of gold of the camera respectively. At the said petition, which added that Philip doubts whether Maurice will obey sentences and processes, the pope orders the above three to execute them, restore Philip to possession and remove Maurice, and cause satisfaction to be made to Philip in respect of the said fruits and costs, invoking the aid of the secular arm, etc. Exhibita nobis.
17 Kal. Feb. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 74d.)	To the bishop of Ross. Mandate to collate and assign to Robert de Tulouch, clerk, of the diocese of Brechin, the precentorship of Caithness, a non-major non-elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 9l. sterling, which he formerly obtained by exchange with John Lichton for the perpetual vicarage of Elon in the diocese of Aberdeen, the resignations being made to bishops John and Henry respectively, who carried out the exchange; Robert doubting whether the collation and provision made to him of the said precentorship hold good. The collation is to be made whether the precentorship be void in the way stated, or because Alexander de Suthirland held it for more than a year without being ordained priest, or in any other way. Mandate to collate and assign to Roger Omochlan, priest, of the diocese of Elphin, the perpetual vicarage, value not exceeding 5 marks, of Teachbuych in the said diocese, as he doubts whether the collation and provision thereof, which he formerly obtained from bishop John, by his ordinary authority, on its voidance by the death of Angelus Omelan, hold good. Id. Jan. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 117.)	To Nicholas de Ixon, canon of London. Mandate, at the recent petition of Robert Rolleston, archdeacon of Durham—containing that the archdeacon's principal house and other houses and buildings in the city and diocese of Durham belonging to the archdeaconry have been greatly destroyed and deteriorated by the negligence of Robert Gilbert, sometime archdeacon—to summon the said Robert Gilbert and others concerned, make enquiry and decree what is just, without appeal, proceeding by ecclesiastical censure etc. Justis supplicum votis.
4 Id. Feb. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 128d.)	To the bishops of Alet and Aberdeen (Alberdonen.), and the abbot of Lindores (de Lundoris) in the diocese of St. Andrews. Mandate as below. The petition of Gilbert Forstar, archdeacon of Brechin, contained that he formerly had provision made to him of and obtained the said archdeaconry on its voidance by the death of David de Idur, in virtue of letters of the present pope, but that Richard de Trag, priest, of the diocese of St. Andrews, opposed and prevented Gilbert's peaceable possession; that Gilbert's appeal to the apostolic see etc. was, at his instance, committed by the pope to Master Julian de Cesarinis, papal chaplain and auditor-general of causes of the court of the papal camera, before whom appeared as Gilbert's proctor Master Thomas de Lanczenberg, who set forth that Richard had usurped possession and had taken the fruits for two years; and that the said auditor adjudged the archdeaconry to Gilbert, imposing perpetual silence on Richard, condemning him to restore the said fruits or 50 marks of the money of Scotland for each of the said years, and condemning him in costs, which he assessed at 50 gold florins of the camera. At the said petition, which added that Gilbert fears that whilst the cause has been pending others have intruded themselves or may do so, the pope orders the above to execute the said auditor's decision, inducting Gilbert and removing Richard, etc., and to execute the same equally against any other intruders. 7 Kal. March. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 176.)	To the bishops of Durham and Adria, and the abbot of St. Mary's without the walls of York. Mandate as below. The petition of Henry, Cistercian abbot of Rivaulx (de Reyvallis) in the diocese of York, contained that on the resignation of William Bramley, [now] monk, sometime abbot of Rivaulx, made to John and Richard, abbots respectively of Fountains and Kirkstall (who were specially empowered by Matthew, abbot of Clairvaux, the father-abbot of Rivaulx, to whom belongs by ancient custom the receiving of such resignation and the making of provision), the said abbots made provision to him, but that the said William, falsely alleging that he had been despoiled of the rule and administration [by] the said Henry, prevented him, as he still does, from peaceably exercising the same, and appealed to the apostolic see; that the pope, at William's instance, committed the said appeal etc. to Master John de Opiczis, and then to Master Bartholomew Guischardi, papal chaplains and auditors, the former of whom by a definitive sentence decided in favour of Henry, imposing perpetual silence on William and condemning him in costs, and the latter of whom pronounced by an unjust sentence that Master John's proceedings were bad; that William's appeal to the said see from the said definitive sentence [of Master John] was committed by the pope to Master Cunczo de Zwola, papal chaplain and auditor, who by a definitive sentence annulled Master Bartholomew's proceedings, condemning William in the costs of the proceedings both before him and before the said Bartholomew, and by another definitive sentence declared the said Master John's proceedings to have been valid and confirmed his said sentence, subsequently assessing the total costs of the proceedings before himself and the said Bartholomew at 35 gold florins of the camera, those of the proceedings before the said Master John being assessed by Master William Aragonis, likewise a papal chaplain and auditor, at 40 like florins. At the said petition, adding that Henry fears lest the said William, to whom after his said resignation a yearly life pension was assigned from the fruits etc. of the monastery, will not obey the said sentences of Masters John and Cunczo nor the proceedings to be taken in virtue of these presents, the pope orders the above to proceed to execution, publishing the said sentences, and to cause satisfaction to be made to Henry in respect of the said costs, which are to be deducted from the said pension, invoking the aid of the secular arm, etc. Exhibita nobis.

Mandate to collate and assign to Maurice Olergassa, clerk, of the diocese of Clogher, the perpetual benefice called the vicarage Castri sive de Lochdayge in the said diocese, with cure and value not exceeding 6 marks, void by the death of Maurice Macachassayd (also written Mocachassaid). 3 Id. Feb. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 233.)	To the dean of Derry. Mandate—the pope having been informed by Eugenius Ogubuin, scholar, of the diocese of Derry, that Patrick Macgrodai, rector of Disoartergnidh in the said diocese, after provision had been made to him by papal authority [see Cal. Lett. VII, pp. 103, 104] of the said rectory, simoniacally agreed with Nemeas Ogubuin, priest, of the said diocese, with whom he was litigating in those parts about the said rectory, that in return for Nemeas's giving up the suit and all right in or to the rectory, Patrick should pay him every year a portion of the fruits etc. thereof, which agreement has been carried out—if Eugenius will accuse Patrick before him, and if he find the facts to be as stated, to deprive Patrick, and to collate and assign the said rectory, value not exceeding 4 marks [cf. ibid.] to Eugenius, who is in his twenty-third year, and is the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, on account of which defects he is hereby dispensed to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold the said rectory or any other benefice with cure. 1428. 5 Kal. March. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 235.)	To the abbot of Cong in the diocese of Tuam. Mandate to collate and assign to David de Angubo (rectius Angulo), clerk, of the diocese of Tuam—who is in or about his twenty-third year, and who lately received papal dispensation, as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, after which, without further dispensation on account of the said defect, he was received as a canon of Tuam but has had no fruits therefrom—after he has renounced the said reception, the rectory, value not exceeding 8 marks, of Newtown (Villanova) alias Burgiskera in the said diocese, of the patronage of laymen, so long void (because John de Stantona, who is to be summoned and removed, held it for more than a year without being ordained priest, and has detained it for more than six years more without any right) that its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see. 1427. 7 Kal. Dec. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 240.)	To Laurence Obeollayn and David Obuigi, canons of Raphoe, and the official of Raphoe. Mandate to collate and assign to Murianus Obreslen, rector of Insula Cayl in the diocese of Raphoe (who is a priest, and who lately received papal dispensation, as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman related in the double second degree of affinity, to be promoted etc. as above, f. 235), the perpetual vicarage of Killomayrrd in the said diocese, value not exceeding 4 marks, so long void by the death of John Ochairig that its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Luke Ochailgeanan, priest, of the said diocese, who is to be summoned and removed, under pretext of a collation made to him by the ordinary after the said lapse, has detained possession for more than three years; notwithstanding that Murianus holds the said rectory, value not exceeding 5 marks, with which he is hereby dispensed to hold the said vicarage for ten years. Mandate to collate and assign to Thomas Macdiarmada, clerk, of the diocese of Elphin (who lately received papal dispensation, as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman, to be promoted etc. as above, f. 235) the perpetual vicarage of Tuachmna in the said diocese, value not exceeding 6 marks, void by the death of Donald Ocuirch, although Reginald Otomaltaych, priest, of the said diocese, who is to be summoned and removed, has detained possession for more than three years, under pretext of letters of the pope which did not mention the then holder, as is required by a constitution of the pope [see Ottenthal, Regulæ Canc. Mandate to collate and assign the perpetual vicarage of Dangyn in the diocese of Ardfert, value not exceeding 12 marks, void by the deprivation made by bishop Nicholas of Philip [son] of Gerald Fizmorys, or because Alan Olongsich held it for more than a year without being ordained priest, or void in any other way, to John Oconnchur, clerk, of the said diocese, who is in his twenty-third year and lately received papal dispensation, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted etc. as above, f. 235, and to whom the pope this day [has made provision] of a canonry with reservation of a prebend of Cloyne and of a benefice with or without cure, even if a canonry and prebend or dignity etc. in the church of Ardfert, in the gift of the bishop of Ardfert … Vite etc. (Folio 288, which contained the end of the letter, is missing.)
4 Id. Dec. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 293.)	To the bishop of Adria and the archdeacon and the dean of Clogher. Mandate as below. The pope—on its being recently set forth to him on behalf of Nicholas Offlannagan, priest, of the diocese of Clogher, that formerly (after he had received papal dispensation, as the son of a religious professed of the order of St. Augustine and an unmarried woman, to be promoted etc. as above, f. 235, in virtue of which he was so promoted and obtained the rectory de Ynysmagisanith in the said diocese) on the voidance of the priorship of the secular and collegiate church of St. Lassrianus de Daminys in the said diocese, which is a principal dignity with cure, and subsequently of the rectory or plebania, called comorbanship, of the same secular and collegiate church, which is also a parish church, because John Macgagyr held them for more than a year without being ordained priest, bishop Arthur made collation and provision to him, who had no further dispensation than the above, first of the said priorship and then, after he had resigned the above rectory of Ynysmagisanith, of the said rectory or plebania, under pretext of which collation and provision he obtained and held them together—rehabilitated him, and required him to resign both [Cal. Lett. VII, p. 497]. The pope, having learned that the said rectory or plebania became and is void by the resignation to the said bishop of Maurice Meicmagnassa, hereby orders the above three to collate and assign it, value not exceeding 10 marks, whether it became void thus, or by the said non-promotion, or in any other way, to Nicholas, who is hereby dispensed to hold it and to resign it, simply or for exchange. 12 Kal. Jan. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 301d.)	To the abbot of Assaroe (Sameria) in the diocese of Raphoe, Laurence Obeollan, canon of Raphoe and John Ogubuin, canon of Limerick. Mandate to collate and assign to Virgilius Oferrghil, priest, of the diocese of Raphoe, who is of a great noble race, the perpetual vicarage, value not exceeding 8 marks, of Cillmacnenann in the said diocese, void by the death of Peter Ocluigheachare; whether it be void thus, or by the death of Odo Ogaillbiugi or in any other way; notwithstanding that the pope recently [f. 309d] ordered provision to be made to him of the rectory of Tulacheargna in the said diocese, of which he has not got possession, value not exceeding 6 marks. Mandate—the pope having been informed by Virgilius Oferrghil, priest, of the diocese of Raphoe, that Gofredus Macdalaidh alias Macadeaganaidh, rector of Tulachearghna in the said diocese, after provision thereof had been made to him by papal authority, made with Patrick Maclithoigi, priest, of the said diocese, who claimed to have a right in the said rectory, a simoniacal agreement whereby Patrick should receive every year for life a part of the fruits etc., after which bargain Gofredus obtained possession and still holds it—if and after Virgilius accuses Gofredus before them, to make inquiry, and if they find the facts to be as stated, to deprive Gofredus, and in that event to collate and assign the said rectory, value not exceeding 6 marks, to Virgilius. Mandate to collate and assign to David Omulcaeyaill, priest, of the diocese of Clonfert, who lately received papal dispensation, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted etc. as above, f. 235, the perpetual vicarage of Kylloscola (sic) in the diocese of Tuam, value not exceeding 4 marks, void by the resignation to archbishop John of Odo [son] of Ruphus Ymochlayn.
