To the abbots of Clar and Ynysgad and the prior of the secular and collegiate church of St. Senan, Inyskayg, in the diocese of Killaloe. Mandate to collate and assign to Thady Ogriffa, clerk, of the diocese of Killaloe (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, as the son of un- married parents, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure) the rectory of the parish church of Kyllnamonad in rural and ecclesiastical fee, commonly called [the rectory] of Kenelbuyth, in the said diocese, of the patronage of laymen, with cure and value not exceeding 10 marks sterling, so long void by the death without the Roman court of Searlas alias Cucogri Ogriffa that its collation lapsed to the apostolic see; summoning and removing Donald Ocuuynd, priest, of the said diocese, who took possession without any right and by force after the said lapse and has for more than three years unduly detained it under pretext of a certain union and incorporation. Thady is hereby dispensed, on account of the said defect, to hold the said rectory and three other benefices with or without cure compatible with it and with one another, even if canonries and prebends or dignities etc., and to resign it and them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. Mandate to collate and assign to John Macdalaig alias Macandeaganaid, clerk, of the diocese of Raphoe (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted etc. as in the preceding) the rectory of Domnaemor (rectius Domnacmor) in the diocese of Derry, value not exceeding 10 marks sterling, void by the death without the Roman court of Thomas Ocearballan, summoning and removing Donatus Ocearballan, priest, of the said diocese of Derry, who took, after the death of the said Thomas, his son (fn. 4), possession of the said rectory without any title, by his own temerity, and has unduly detained it (fn. 5) for more than five years; whether it became void as stated, or by the death of Dermit Yferogil without the said court, or in any other way. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Milerus de Exonis (sic), clerk, of the diocese of Mayo alias Tuam, that Malachy Okearnaid(h), rector of the rectory of rural lands commonly called [the rectory] of Magenuld(h) in the said diocese of Mayo alias Tuam (fn. 6), a priest, has committed simony and perjury and divers other crimes [not here specified], has dilapidated the goods of the said rectory, is not skilled in letters and learning and is unfit to hold the said rectory (fn. 7) ) if Milerus will accuse Malachy before them etc. as usual, to summon Malachy and if they find the above or enough thereof to be true, to deprive Malachy and in that event to collate and assign the said rectory, value not exceeding 7 marks sterling, to Milerus. Collation and provision to him (who says he is of a race of kings and dukes, and who was lately dispensed by papal authority, as the son of an unmarried man and an abbess of the order of St. Augustine related in the second degree of affinity and the fourth of kindred, (i) to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice with or without cure, (ii) upon provision being ordered to be made to him [Cal. Lett. VIII, pp. 651, 652] of the provostship of the said church, to receive and hold it) of the said deanery, a major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 12 marks sterling, void by the death without the Roman court of Bernard Oconceanayn and ipso facto reserved under the pope's late reservation of all major dignities; whether it be void as stated, or by the death of William Rany or the resignation of Thomas Cusyn, both without the said court, or in any other way; notwithstanding that he holds the said provostship, a non-major non-elective dignity with cure, and the rectory of Dunmor, and that provision was lately granted to him by papal authority of the rectory of Athnaryg in the said diocese, value not exceeding 3, 20 and 20 marks sterling respectively, and that he was dispensed by the said authority to hold the said provostship and rectory of Dunmor for life. He is hereby specially dispensed, on account of the said defect, to receive the deanery and hold it and the said rectory of Dunmor for life. To Elias Omurchu, canon of Killala. Mandate to collate and assign to Eugenius Ochenduayn, clerk, of the diocese of Mayo alias Tuam, who is in about his twenty-third year, and who was lately dispensed by authority of the ordinary, as the son of unmarried nobles, to be promoted to all minor orders and hold a benefice without cure, if found fit, the perpetual vicarage of Crossmaulina in the diocese of Killala, and the chancellorship of Killala, value not exceeding 8 and 3 marks respectively, the said vicarage being void because Malachy Oconel, when holding it obtained, collated to him by authority of the ordinary, the said chancellorship, a non-major non-elective dignity without cure; and the said chancellorship being void by 'Execrabilis,' and therefore ipso facto reserved, because having obtained it as stated, he has detained his said vicarage and it together for more than six months without obtaining dispensation. The collation is to be made to Eugenius (who has no hope of obtaining justice in the city and diocese of Killala on account of Malachy's power), whether the said vicarage and chancellorship be void as above, or by the death of Thady Yduyn without the Roman court, or the said vicarage be void by the said constitution, and he is hereby specially dispensed, on account of the said defect, to receive and retain them for life. To Andrew de Dunnovin, archdeacon of Sodor, bachelor of canon law. (fn. 9) Collation and provision to him (who is an abbreviator of apostolic letters, and cannot speak intelligibly the language of the city and diocese of Sodor as regards preachings and other public acts, although he speaks it somewhat, even intelligibly) of the archdeaconry of Sodor, a major dignity with cure, value not exceeding 20l. sterling, provision of which, on its becoming void, and ipso facto reserved, under the present pope's reservation of all major cathedral dignities, by the death without the Roman court of Cristinus Macdonaillelygh, the pope granted to John Hectoris, [now] bishop of Sodor, then of lower rank (fn. 10), who recently, after the voidance of the said church and before his promotion by the pope thereto, ceded the said grant (the papal letters respecting which had not been drawn up) and all his right in or to the said archdeaconry, to Francis, cardinal priest of St. Clement's, vicechancellor of the Roman church, who has admitted the said cession by viva voce mandate of the pope, wherefore the said archdeaconry is still void as above and reserved; whether it be void by the said death, or by the said cession, or by the resignation of the said Cristinus or of John Careyk, priest, of the diocese of Sodor or Argyll, or in any other way, and notwithstanding that provision was lately made to him by papal authority of the parish church of Lundithey (sic) in the diocese of Moray, which is of the patronage of laymen and of which he believes he is in possession, value not exceeding 10l. sterling, and that the pope also lately ordered provision to be made to him of one or two benefices, even if one had cure or were a dignity etc., or either of them were a canonry and prebend, administration or office, in a cathedral or collegiate church, in the gift of the bishops of St. Andrews and Dunkeld and the prior and dean respectively and chapters etc. of those churches. He is hereby specially dispensed, notwithstanding the pope's late ordinance to the contrary [see above, p. 5] etc., to hold together for life the said archdeaconry and church, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and hold instead two other incompatible benefices, even if dignities etc., but not two parish churches or perpetual vicarages. (who was lately dispensed by authority of the ordinary, as the son of unmarried parents related in the third and fourth degrees of affinity, to be promoted to minor orders and hold a benefice without cure) the provostship of Elphin, a non-major non-elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 12 marks sterling, which became and is still void because William Oflannagan, [now] an Augustinian canon of Rosscoman in the diocese of Elphin, when holding it entered the said monastery and made his profession; summoning and removing Thady Macdiarmada, clerk, of the said diocese of Elphin who, under pretext of certain letters of expectation, took possession thereof, without any canonical title, whilst the said William was still provost and before he entered the said monastery, and has unduly detained possession for about four years; whether they find it to be void as above, or by the death of Raygnoyd (sic) Ychayrnay, or by the resignation of Donatus Ymurayn, both without the Roman court, or in any other way; notwithstanding that the present pope lately made him provision of a canonry of the said church [of Elphin] and another of that of Achonry, with reservation of as many prebends, and dispensed him to hold such prebends; notwithstanding also the said defect, on account of which the pope hereby further dispenses him to hold the said provostship. To Carbricus Machadaedagayn (sic), dean of Clonfert. Collation and provision to him (who was lately dispensed, as the son of a subdeacon and a married woman, to be promoted etc. as above, f. 17) of the deanery of Clonfert, a major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 20 marks sterling, void, and ipso facto reserved under the pope's late reservation of all major cathedral dignities, by the death without the Roman court of Thomas Machaedagayn; whether it be so void, or by the death without the said court of Thomas Ylongayn or of Fergallus Machadagayn, or in any other way; notwithstanding that he holds the perpetual vicarage of Leycmolase in the diocese of Clonfert, value not exceeding 5 marks sterling, and that, without having obtained other dispensation on account of the said defect, he has been received by authority of the ordinary as a canon of Clonfert, and notwithstanding the said defect. The pope hereby, declaring the said reception void, dispenses him, on account of the said defect, to hold the said deanery and three other benefices compatible with one another and with the said deanery or vicarage, and to resign all, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and hold instead four other mutually compatible benefices. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Richard Ofyan, clerk, of the diocese of Cashel, that Donatus Macadoch alias Breyach, treasurer of Cashel, has kept a public concubine, dilapidated goods of the said treasurership and neglected its cure, is very ignorant of letters (fn. 11), and is involved in divers other crimes and excesses [not here specified]) if Richard, who was lately dispensed by papal authority, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted etc. as above f. 17. will accuse Donatus before the above archdeacon etc. as usual, to summon Donatus and if he find the above to be true, to deprive Donatus and in that event to collate and assign the said treasurership, a non-major non-elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 10 marks sterling, to Richard; whether it become void by such deprivation, or be void by the death without the Roman court of Nicholas Haket, or in any other way.
